  3. Thats a great thing to buy. Does it need much work or is it ready to go.
  4. I suffered serious mental damage after an emotional day with a sided up leylandii hedge covered in Russian vine. The horror the horror.
  5. My loop when tied is about 30 cm out of reach if you sit on it.
  6. The mychorrhizae applied in the generic mixes could possibly out compete the fungal colonies already present on the veteran OaK. This threatens the fungal diversity of the soil. I am not aware of any research that disproves this. It is my opinion that mychorrhizal inoculations should only be used to help restore contaminated land and in planting pits. More research is needed.
  7. Psedoscleratial plates are better thought of as bubbles or sacks. They are chemical deposits made by the fungi and enclose the area of the substrate they are decaying. By enclosing the area the fungi can alter the conditions within it to favour it. The fungi may dry it out or bring in moisture. They probably also offer some protection from the advancement of other fungal colonies. I remember reading somewhere that the lines were black because one of the chemicals deposited by the fungi was melanin.
  8. Arabists? Arabiculture? Arab husbandry?

  18. They look quite tidy. But why no hole for a crab under the safety catch ? I look forward to reading Rupes review.
  19. Just a couple of questions to satisfy my curiosity. Why Barley straw? and why is it used in Ponds?
  20. We generally dont us a lanyard on the 440, 372. I generally do on the 395 but not allways. We usually just put a crab through the rear handle. If it gets caught with a piece coming off I would rather let it just go. I feel this is acceptable as long as the ground staff are well clear. Another thing to look out for when putting a lanyard on a rear handle saw is if you choker the tool strop to it it can slip over the throttle. On the top handles we use Buckingham breakaway strops.
  21. Im really into rock climbing but didn't do much last season. I find that if I have been rock climbing at the weekend I feel incredibly focused in the tree on monday. Enjoy!
  22. I agree that getting right out there is a confidence thing, but im just under 11 stone and can throw a 395 around all day and have been known to use the 3120 in the tree.
  23. Nice photos Gibbon. Where were you in Africa?
