  1. Arborist Double Rope Technique My apologies Ddrt seems to be the correct term for yje normal system. Beet me to it Tim:001_tt2:
  2. I always thought Drt was double rope technique, the standard climbing technique we all use. Rope over a branch one end tied to you and a friction hitch on the other part of the line. Ddrt is doubled rope technique, this is used to describe climbing a double rope like when footlocking. I willl have look for something to confirm this. Please correct If im wrong. I think I may have Drt and Ddrt confused
  3. The only time I dont use DRt is when I am footlocking on a doubled rope (DDrt) or when I choker the stem with my main line when making cuts on a pole with spikes on. I would like to do some more playing with RADS stuff as I think it has great potential for really quick jobs.
  4. Main climbing system: Yale XTC+ and 8mm Beeline Vt with Hitch climber. Petzl Oval Crab Isc quad lock Crab Strop: Yale XTC+ with an ISC snap hook tied onto one end Tenex eye to eye sling tied in a VT, Petzl fixe pulley and 1 Crab Cambium Saver with a pulley attached with a mailon in the place of the small ring. On my harness: 1 bentgate crab slipped behind the belt for attaching the saw First aid kit clipped on with a crab
  5. Cool. I don't think this is the time of year they usually show themselves.
  6. " Ammonium sulphamate has now been completely withdrawn from sale as part of the periodic EC Review Programme. Products containing the chemical can be stored and used until 22nd May 2008. Beyond this date it will be illegal to store or sell any product containing this chemical." AIE - TrunkLine - Autumn Colours I think it has been withdrawn because wild birds can be killed if they eat the crystals. The above link gives advice on alternatives.
  7. We are going from Warminster, Wiltshire if anyone wants a lift they could meet us on the A303,M3 or M25. Will
  8. Swingbob and I are coming on the Wednesday. See you all there. Will
  9. Cool video really liked it. Very slick.
  10. It does work I know I have done it (in an Iveco) . Its a bit agressive and wont work if you have sunk to deep.
  11. You just tie an old rope to the rear wheel then tie it to the tree and get the transit to walk up the rope. Wont get you out of every where but does work in some situations.
  12. Just sent an email. Hope there are still some places.
  13. Try Rob Blake he is a really nice guy. Rob Blake Arb Training Lanlivery Main Road, Middlezoy Bridgwater Somerset TA7 0PB UNITED KINGDOM Tel.01823 690042 Fax.01823 690099
  14. Nice Pictures Do you know what kind of Oak it was Buck? When I saw the photo I thought it was a sweet chestnut.
  15. Red,yellow and blue http://www.iscwales.com/pulleys/arborist.htm These pulleys are what we use for our main pulleys Then RP017 and RP108 from this page http://www.iscwales.com/pulleys/stainlesssteel.htm for redirects
  16. You have compromised the trees defences against decay fungi by breaking the bark and wounding the tree. It is possible that decay could begin at this point and cause the limb to fail. My advise would be to talk to the tree officer. He is probably going to make you take down the tree house and zip line but is unlikely to prosecute you for the minor damage you have caused. The maximum fine for damage to a TPO tree is £2500! In years to come if that coach bolt is hidden inside the branch and someone hits it with a chainsaw it could cause them injury. Just my take on the situation, sorry to be a spoil sport.
  17. Thanks for the advice.
  18. Cheers Bob we have a blue 19mm. The green really only comes out when the blue is to short to get enough tucks on the timber hitch. Do you think there is a potential problem with using the larger Split tale with the pulley ?
  19. Its defiantly designed and mad for use as a topping down strop. Its a Yale.
  20. I understand what you are saying, but it doesn't feel or look wrong to me. I think the bend ratio is fine in the pully/split tale combo and the rope is very soft so doesn't really get crushed to much. A lot of the problem with closing the swing cheek is caused by the protective sheath on the splice. Cheers for the heads up Pete I will defiantly give it a bit more assessment when I put it together next.
  21. Good question. I would have thought whatever you can get in there is fine but I don't know. Big chunky split tales hold a knot really well and don't seem to slip on the tree when snatching that's why I like them. With our big split tale you have to hammer the eye flat to close the pulley back up.
  22. We use 12,14 and 16mm lowering kits. I would have thought it very rare that you would use bigger then 16mm. We have got a monster split tale in the kit. Its got to be 35mm and about 4m long, a real beauty. I would go for 16mm.
  23. I just put it in my pocket:001_tongue:
  24. Its nicer to start, sexier and has the extra oiler which gives you something to press and play with when your bored. The only problem I have with the 880 is that it tries to rip your arm of when you start it.
