  1. If you get a good quality pellet mill they have an in built granulator so all you need is to put the chip through a 10mm screen and the granulator will do the rest. I use a heizohack with roller speed turned right down and a 30mm screen.
  2. Seems strange to put a wind turbine up and then plant a forest which will stop the wind.
  3. If its North Manchester you can use my place just North of Bolton
  4. Watch out for the Environment agency. Anything that is not virgin timber (ie has been chemically treated) is subject to the Waste Incineration Directive and can only be burnt in WID compliant burners. Therefore burning of this material in domestic stoves is illegal and can result in heavy penalties. You may find a power station that is WID compliant who will take this material but they only pay peanuts for it as the alternative is landfill.
  5. When we bought the farm it included 1 acre of mixed woodland and since then we have planted 2 acres of mainly sissle oak ash alder cherry scots pine and holly under a forestry commission grant scheme. Looking to buy more woodland within a 15 mile radius. Unfortunately most of the woodland is owned by United Utilities so it may have to be more farmland which we plant ourselves.
  6. administrator could you rectify the url above I think it should be http:/victorygasworks.ning.com/ I hate computers
  7. Its a big scare story by the fossil fuel industry from America that could have a devastating effect on the infant biomass industry but the research has fundamental flaws in its analysis. A good explanation can be found on the victory gasworks site which I use to keep abreast of gasification technology. I will try and find the youtube link. http://http:/victorygasworks,ning,com/
  8. By their argument then constructing gas pipelines and compressor stations all the way from Russia is an environmentally friendly way of using the earths resources. Obviously the fossil fuel brigade are worried that biomass might put them out of business. It has already happened in Brazil with the use of ethanol.
  9. Everyone who is self employed will be affected by these penalty notices it is really like Big Brother. I am already fighting a penalty for not submitting our Partnership accounts online by 31st Jan. We submitted our individual tax returns which include the Partnership figures on time but apparently they want a separate 3 line partnership account submitting as well which we have never submitted before even though we have been in partnership since 1998 and never had a problem in the past until they brought in this computerized system. Makes you wonder whether its worth the hassel of being self employed
  10. Can anybody help in finding steps to fit a MB Trac 1000 cab. The engineering firm doing up my MB Trac who will remain nameless have lost my steps and are prepared to bodge it but I would prefer originals. I would even consider a complete cab and steps if the price was right.
  11. I use kiln dried offcuts mainly Swedish timber to manufacture wood pellets and briquettes the MC is consistently 12% dried in our solar polytunnels. We can go up to a max 15% MC making briquettes but we get into trouble with wood pellets at 15%.
  12. Well spotted. I am aware of anerobic compost digestion systems as outlined by Jean Pain but this seems to be aerobic digestion which I find very interesting.
  13. Perfect pieces Blackburn is just down the road for me and I can supply 10 tonnes but it does help to know what you need supplying and at what rate you are expecting to pay. As an example my product range for 10 tonnes would include kindling, briquettes, wood pellets, wood chip, joiners logs, joiners noggins, and of course split logs.
  14. I was with Alex on the 17th sorting out my MB Trac and he said that he intended to have the Mog at the APF
  15. If is any help I can get IBC containers for £20 + vat or £15 + vat for frames only. Based near Bolton Lancs.
  16. I think you will find it is the equivalent to Yellow Pages for the internet. A con like this was muted several years ago similar to the international directory cons which used to eminate from Switzerland but using internet addresses. The directory would be printed and then you would have to pay for the listing. In the past the model could not be made to work for the internet due to the cost of the names but obviously Yell must have a cheap name bulk purchase rate.
  17. I did like the BGU machine and even considered importing via the Irish dealer after being let down and conned by the UK dealer. If you look on Arbtalk you will find others have had similar experiences, Not disappointed with the Palax and cannot fault Caledonian forestry.

  18. I have a 814 curtain side. Absolute bomb proof but if you need to go off road make sure you get the 4x4 version.
  19. No comment re Perry plant on the forum but needless to say I bought a Palax from Caledonian
  20. Just about to pick up my forward control MB Trac which we have removed the spray tank and boom and replaced with log deck and attached a Kesla forwarding trailer and crane. MB Trac is Ag registered and we will be carting our own timber on full duty diesel. Do I need to be worried.
  21. There determined to push the price up for you Big Bolt
  22. bio fuel chipping is viable so long as you own the power station.
  23. Partial success with the 30mm screen about 80% of the right size which I intend to sieve with a 10mm screen. The rest will go through the hammer mill and end up in the wood pellet production. As regards screw extruders I was warned against them due to the high wear rate and energy usage.
  24. Polytunnel using split logs is your answer but you could do the same with IBC containers and a clear reinforced plastic sheet over the top weighted down with bricks or plastic water bottles attached to string which can move in the wind. Dont tie the sheet down as it will rip with the first strong gust of wind.
