    Just had my rear twin wheels collapse on my Merc 814. Made the mistake that because the wheel nut indicators were not unscrewing then the wheel must still be secure. The studs have produced slots in the wheels which eventually have worn through 75% of the studs until they snapped. Fortunately I was on a minor road when it happened if it had been a day earlier on the motorway I dread to think what would have happened. The wheels were only fitted by a professional tyre company 3 months earlier so I am shocked about the amount of wear.

    Sounds good to me. As a farmer if I could find some mug to do all the donkey work and then pay me 50% I would retire tomorrow.

    I would disagree, cycle time is paramount on a slow hydraulic tractor. If you want to demo I am just outside Bolton Lancs

    Do you have any more containers coming from Canada in the near future. If so would there be room for a rivals splitter. I am looking to import a split fire 2 way splitter from Canada but they do not have a UK agent. Maybe you could also be their agent.

    If you space the hoops closer together you do get a stronger tunnel. We space at 2.5 mtrs instead of the normal 3 mtrs. That said I was still bashing the inside of the tunnels with a sweeping brush to remove a foot of snow sitting on the roof of the tunnels.

    Got a land rover 90 which would make someone a good project. Already planted in a disco turbo engine as original was a slug. Chunky off road tyres all round body work needs attention especially around front windscreen. I kept it as I was going to put it back on the road but never found enough time and the plate is worth more than the landy as it is OIL xxxx. Local oil delivery company collects these plates for his tankers.

    We normally look at a five year lifespan on the plastic covers anything beyond that is a bonus but then we are very exposed on a hill top.

    Andrew I did not think Wallenstein do a 2 way splitter. Its the reduced cycle time that appeals to me with the split fire splitters.

    The bags I sell are not vented but are recycled bags which have only been used once so look like new. Are you still interested. regards John

    I use LBS horticulture in Colne for my polytunnel plastic and Northern Polytunnels are part of the same group. I have spare polytunnel hoops available at £10 per hoop, plus £10 per pair of end bracing bars and £10 for the 5 mtr centre bars.Hoops are normally spaced 2.5 mtrs apart so 20 mtr tunnel will require 9 hoops 2 braces and 4 centres so £150. Transport would be extra and you need at least a 6 mtr bed to transport them. Rough guide I covered a 20 mtr tunnel last year and the plastic cost approx £450. Your quite welcome to come and look at our set up and I can give you plenty of tips on how to put the cover on without it flying away.

    Just found a company in Canada which manufactures them complete with log lifter. Does anybody import them into UK as it looks good kit.     Personally I avoid turbo's on older tractors. If you think a 390 has not got enough grunt for the job you are doing then I would go for the 6 cyl 399. Bearing in mind the higher fuel consumption of a 6 cyl and the price of diesel is only going one way. Reason I got my MB Trac 1000's was because of the fuel efficiency of the Merc engine.

    I am looking for a splitter to stand at the side of my Palax combi by the elevator to crack very large rings which wont fit into the Palax. Obviously it cannot be PTO powered as the Palax is on the PTO therefore it needs to run off the tractor hydraulics. My tractor is an old MF550 so has slow hydraulics compared to new tractors so bearing that in mind I have found a 20 tonne 2 way splitter which would get over this problem. see youtube clip. Has anybody used them and if so are they practical for splitting large rings.

    I hire out my MB Trac and Heizohack chipper with operator for £250 a day but then it is normally biomass I am chipping. I have in the past hired at £100 per day as a favour to a tree surgeon who had his chipper written off. Shame he has not had the decency to pay for the work done.

    I think selling turning wood by weight is an excellent method. If dry logs at 20% MC are selling for £250 a tonne then green turning wood at 40% MC would need to be a minimum of £125 a tonne which seems very cheap to me at 12.5p per kg.

    I thought a lower operating pressure just means you need a larger diameter ram to maintain the 18 tonne force.

    Does anybody have the version which runs off the tractor hydraulics rather than off a pto pump. If so are they any good.

    Have you considered hiring a machine and operator. I hire mine out and are local to you.

    Our polytunnels are set up for solar drying. Concrete bog mats to allow forklift access and the use of IBC containers so you can stack 1 2 1 along the length of the polytunnel giving 80 cu mtrs of storage for a 20 mtr tunnel. Make sure you get a fork lift with 6ft of free lift. Polytunnels are open at each end with 1 mtr height difference along the length of the tunnel to obtain natural heat flow and ventilation. Covered with clear plastic to get maximum solar gain rather than obscure plastic.

    I seem to have heard this story before from a pellet manufacturer in Liverpool who assured everybody that the only pallets they used were untreated. Unfortunately the environment agency did not believe them and tested the pellets only to find traces of dioxin which proved the pallets were treated.

    I presume you have looked at the FC e timber tender for wales due in on the 26th Jan and the one for england due in on 10th Feb. If tender units are to large how about an agreed arbtalk members group offer??.

    You could take the kindling machine and process in Portsmouth and then distribute finished product nationwide.
