  1. nope, felled and snedded about 140 on my own and had 3 chipping (only small trees mind 6 to 12 inch) proving I'm obviously too hasty to get extra staff in sometimes
  2. Glad I did not take yours and Hucks weather forecast as gospel, There must be a micro climate at Prescot resevoir only rained between 7am and 6pm for a total of 45 mins
  3. I have size eleven boots but I will not be using these as my method of pre scanning the area before the bomb company comes in.... If any sparks arise from my chain I will know to move quickly and rapidly behind the nearest chip pile.
  4. Its just felling 8 inch willow and pop for 10 hours for pipeline clearance, job got to be done tomorrow as company searching for bombs, grenades etc are scanning area on Thursday. Plus Im not going to melt, you couple of northern softies.
  5. Short notice i know but worth a try!! anyone want a days work tomorrow near St Helens, I actually live near J27 of M6 so can pick up there if need be, Cheers, David
  6. yep, your not wrong, thats bigger than any tree Im likely to fell in my life time
  7. You might want to take a zero of that, they have a 1000 tonne crane but not 10000 . They will lift 29 tonnes at 56 meters or 62 tonnes at 56 meters with counter weights. Founder & sons drink in local boozer. Guess how much it is to hire a day???
  8. I got mine from needle sports, although they don't stock them they can get them in quite quick
  9. If not I am surprised and one should be started. Whats the biggest tree you have ever felled or dismantled etc. ?
  10. The pto gearbox can be purchased for £280 new from a spanish company I have the contact details somewhere (a lot cheaper than genuine LR part) you will then have to drill a hole in each cross member of any landrover apart from the series vehicles. You could then have prop made up with support bearings for about £400. However you will not achieve more that 30hp at 540rpm, with out a reduction gearbox on either the rear of the pto shaft or the pto gearbox. But then you will be seriously flogging the landrover and will need extra cooling, not to mention some seriously sensitive stress control on the chipper so not to kill the LR gearbox & engine. The other way is to have a hydraulic pump on the pto gearbox and run the chipper with a hydraulic motor which will also get you 30hp with the right set up. This would cost in the region of £1800. Easy to do with a towable pto chipper. It is all possible but I reckon it would be a massive risk in regards to future repairs.
  11. If you don't let me chop more logs I will fire man relish at you Mother naked
  12. It would have worked well for me if there would have been another tree near by or a mini digger in close proximity
  13. yep that be the one, dog toothing the butress on left to let it go
  14. I was battering with full tilt initially, Did exactly the same cut 95% through and put a big chunk through, nicked my brand new chain once but I do suffer from the shakes
  15. I had the fly wheel at 1/4 revs but the battering ram technique did not work, lucky the chipper has the hydraulic ram thats lifts up the top roller. Otherwise it would have been home time.
  16. I gave my chipper silver birch for breakfast, sycamore for lunch which it regurgitated perfectly. However for its afternoon snack I gave it some large eucalyptus, part of which got stuck in sideways down the back of the bottom feed roller and would not budge. After much pondering & effort the only way I could think to get it out was to lift the top roller with the hydraulic ram that works of a switch, and cut the piece in half with the chainsaw bar an inch away from the fly wheel The other option was to go back to the yard 20 miles away and jack up the top roller, the chipper modification of putting extra heavy duty springs on the top roller did not help matters. I am trying to think of alternative safer method to dislodge the piece but none have come to mind so far?
  17. of course, they seems to be undertaking "the double dogs tooth cut", (cutting away at the left and right hand side of the back of tree after boring through), this is a common method when you fell massive trees on a daily basis
  18. Not a bad bloke to turn into, when I work on my vehicles I put my flat cap and overalls on and think about blowing up chimneys
  19. "quart to eleven" is that what fred used to say
  20. does no one watch the news at 10
  21. Loggers in Ghana, felling 8+ feet DBH trees
  22. would love to have a go at felling them,
  23. It is all taxable no doubt. I have been investigated before from a previous business so would not risk anything again. I have completely covered myself on this matter from a tax point of view and talked to my accountant about it, otherwise I would not be posting this info on a public forum.
  24. could not think of a good title, anyway in the last few months I have done several jobs where I have received returned favours rather than hard cash: 1) 18" water colour painting of scenery or photo of my choice on canvas for a 20% reduction of silver birch. 2) yard space for machinery & firewood storage for 2 -3 years for massive woodland clearance. 3) log burner installation for sycamore removal. 4) 3 days mini digger hire for removing a small beech 5) work on my website for strimming and spraying around a small unit you guys got any of your own??
  25. 25 - 30 just in my village are done for, removing 2 in the morning, Local Council and County Council both confirmed it was Vascular Wilt,
