  1. I have got 3 artic loads (possibly more) of mixed hardwood for sale the first being mostly Sycamore 6 - 18 inch, pm if interested. Loads are located around Greater Manchester. Can be delivered or picked up.
  2. Cheers Ed, but sorted now had to mobilise tomorrow afternoon. PM your mileage rate and load capacity as I have 5 artic loads to move over the next 3 weeks.
  3. Any one know of a company with crane and grab, ideally artic but 26 tonner would be better than nothing.
  4. can you not get 240 to 3 phase converters or do they not have the umpth or amps!
  5. Another product, victim of the firewood boom I paid £72.00 for mine only 15 months ago, all it is is a electric motor, I flimsy frame and tct blade, having said all that I have processed over 200 cube with mine and does a very good job,
  6. Searched hard on here for a post from bloke with 150k grant must be on here somewhere!!!
  7. Shame you dont live near me, local ag engineer piped mine up for £280, cheap as haggis.
  8. The 5k I was quoted was on a old crane, with a new valve block but they would take the old one and refurb it.
  9. That is what I am led to believe they are kind of retrospective grants, but a fellow arbtalk member that I talked to this morning who shall remain nameless ("the cherry picker hater") thought there were grants you get paid upfront for.
  10. You can pay as little as 3k for remote set up, but I know someone who had a cheap after market job that stuck on and demolished a bus shelter (with a man in a basket a very scary outcome could occur). There is one main company who make the remote controls for PM Fassi Palfinger etc and the crane companies just have them in there colour styling. I was quoted by PM and Fassi 5k for an after market set up on a fly jib crane.
  11. Getting a large heizo chipper in for a day is certainly getting more competitive in the North West as there are 4 companies I know of who have purchased them from grants.
  12. I did'nt know Josh knew Monica Lewinsky
  13. I completely aggree Andy, if they want to keep timber to save money that is perfectly fine and as you know it can work out better for both client and contractor. Like you say aslong as the customer does'nt get pushed into it and contractors are honest
  14. I am in need of a processor rather quickly, simple question is there any processor better than a 1x37 that is cheaper?
  15. I have had similar conversations several times with haggling customers saying that I must make money from the wood and it has a value. As you state simple reply is "you keep it then". Never fails............. so far Whats worse is dodgy contractors who do tight access back garden massive pops and tell the customer it has a value and leave it.
  16. your not wrong I reckon a single man with 1x37 could easily make 25k a year approaching woodland owners offering free thining. There are acres of unmanaged woodlands round here full of 8 -16 inch ash. Thought about it my self, then I realised I would have to pay a man £25,000 to run the setup:001_rolleyes: Offers of free woodland felling is starting to kick off round here, but prices would have to rise to a lot more than £240 a tonne before free tree surgery.
  17. Are you near the north west? Lancashire saw mill will have one or make you one, Lancashire Saw Company Ltd Imperial Industrial Estate, Gorse Street, Blackburn, Lancashire, BB1 3EU United Kingdom Tel: +44 (0) 1254 51116
  18. I meant why would they not specifically pay for the pipe, not why they would not pay in general. I have had several atempts to rip me off, the big one was when there was'nt a clear spec of works. Keep your terms and conditions tight and make sure there is a clear specification of work it has obviously helps.
  19. Do any of you carry tracked chippers on a vehicle rather than a trailer, most of staff don't have pre 97 licences, yes I could pay for there trailer licence upgrade and I could obviously employ more people over 32 but just wondering it is feasible. i.e. curved ramps on to a transit or another suitable vehicle, I don't need chip space as when ever tracked chipper is used chip is left on site.
  20. Yeah I can see that makes sense now, bigger outlay risk for bigger profit,
  21. Rupe I fully understand you don't decide you gross profit margin when pricing a job, and you have a "mark up" that therefore gives you a margin. I am wondering if other trades have a better deal as they have more opportunities to increase there gross profit as so many materials are involved. We don't have materials and other trades still have machinery, like I said it may be all relative.
  22. When the contractor invoices for the full amount why would he not receive the money for the pipe it would be included in the invoice.
  23. Frank, the cost of doing the job is £800, but you invoice £1000, therefore your gross profit margin is 20%!!!!!! To calculate gross profit margins you don't calculate 20% of £800. Gross profit calculator Gross Profit Margin Calculator
