  1. On one job when I was totally skint and needed full turnover of invoice, I took a risk and put 95% of the invoice through as plant (800hp bandit beast shredder) at £1500 a day and one labourer at £75 a day. To be honest I get a bit confused by the plant part under CIS as plant & operator should be deducted. But what plant does not need an operator. Any ideas Rupe??
  2. Any work that is completed directly for the completion of construction should always be completed by a sub-contractor CIS registered, a company that did not deduct it would have huge fines to pay as it is tax law with out exemption. I have done work for United Utilities when they have being laying pipe and been deducted 20% and not had a deduction when doing maintenance work. I know lots of you have been payed in full after letters etc but as Rupe says if the inland revenue caught wind of this they would come down strong on the main contractor with huge fines. The main contractor are told what to do by the inland revenue and they have to follow their procudure. Murphy pipelines even deduct on plant as any plant with an operator comes under CIS. After 3-5 year you can apply for excemption if your accounts have been in order for all the years you have been CIS registered. I like being under CIS as at the end of the year in compensates my none deducted work and I have nowt to pay
  3. I should have added that it is mainly birch and pop, few ash and sycamore but mainly selfseeded stuff on old mining land, but not landfill. Have not seen mining report yet though.

  5. I have been offered an 9 acre woodland locally. On one side there is a river on the other there is scrub land for 50m and then a factory. Its up for sale for 8k I know the person who is selling it is desperado for cash. My instinct tells me its definately worth this, but has anyone any conflicting views or any reason I should be careful. I could thin the wood and get 8k of timber!
  6. good luck at getting over £400.00 a day, there are many bigger companies that will do it for £350. IMO £450 - £500 is fair but you would'nt get the contract. I would go in at £400.00 and take a chance. Is it for a sub-contractor or direct to highways? So many parameters, like do you own your tracked chipper or will you hire?

  18. I dont get that if its cost £20/tonne to get it back to the yard all the more reason to sell it (it would reach min £20/tonne). If the company had not got the means to take it back to the yard you could get it picked up from site at minimum £20 / tonne.
