  1. You just have to ask yourself what the Italians know about designing industrial machinery. I used a 10" one once, not good. Completely designed without any thought whatsoever for the person who might use or service it. A tip that i think works is, if you find a piece of profesional machinery which your not sure about, find out which country its made in and then think about how good that country's military hardware is. Works for me, although there are exceptions!
  2. Thats just cruel, how could you!? I've licking the screen for half an hour and still cant taste that pizza!
  3. Climbers got a large pair. Either that or he's lazy!
  4. Why did i never think of that! It could be an arb version of russian roulette. (if you have a bit of time that is)
  5. dont forget the great fortune required to keep one on the road!
  6. If your looking for positive advice, ask a politician! Don't ask humble tree cutters in a recession for candy coated compliments. What sort of answer were you looking for? What you can look forward to after 15/20 years of climing/dragging/cutting is possible problems with joints, back, hearing and circulation. And unless you are one of the very few who crack the market, you can look forward to not having a huge pile of cash in the bank! But, theres now harm in giving it a go, good luck to ya.
  7. And they said that this was the most miserable day of the year......
  8. Could you expand on this please, i found that to be an interesting notion.
  9. what a loon. Nearly finished and no bidders, what a suprise! Who in their right mind would pay for that at that price!
  10. i quite agree with what you say, sometimes the romantic notion of the job outweighs the career prospects. How many of these guys are thinking fifteen/ twenty years down the line when climbing becomes a little too hard and what section of the industry they will move into next. I still blame the colleges for pulling these guys in. It is becoming inevitable that there will be a "base layer" workforce of newly qualified "arborists" significantly diluted by those who A) have no potential, and B) have no long term future, who are making the commited few extremely hard to sift out. Obviously they all are qualified and full of enthusiasm to start with.
  11. Going to college is all well and good but i think the industry we are in is going to experience some serious changes in the near future. Colleges are pumping out these kids at an incredible rate compared with say, ten/ fifteen years ago. I fear for the future of these guys. How are they going to get positions with minimal experience with so few positions availiable? I think the colleges are going to have to regulate their numbers at the very least. Maybe we will see a time when the current level of qualifications become redundent and are surpassed by far greater and more demanding standards. Even when i started ten years ago i had to write to nearly every AA contractor in england to find work. Virtually all said no chance without experience, and i ended up travelling the country on short term contracts. Still, looking back on it, it hasnt been such a bad life. In hindsight, i should have studied finance at uni and become a hedge fund manager with million pound bonus's!
  12. Think of it as a cabstar on steroids.
  13. I'd normally be interested but what with the credit crunch and everything....

  17. A sweet vid, mind you there is also a little lesson in there as well. Look at the big limb he cranks out first and how it droops around the trunk. If that snags on his climbing line as it comes down he is going to seriously know about it. As you see the limb hit the deck you can see his climbing line has been pulled about a bit. A little more preperation would avoid that. Must have been a cracking job though, the kind of one where you look at it for the first time and say "how the hell....."
  18. Hmmmm, virtually invisible barrier tape, i like it!
