  1. Hi Andrew, if you want to email some of your details such as qualifications, where you want to work and doing what, if this is a permanent move etc, what your wife does for a living and then I can get a better idea of the info to give you rather than blithering on with a load of waffle that doesn't really apply to you. Drop me a line on [email protected] or [email protected] and I'll try and clue you up on the process, what you need etc. Just bear in mind that arborists are on the skills shortage list at the moment and the government is trying to encourage people here so your chances are good.

  2. Bro when I stop booking work in for myself over the weekends I'll get it sorted, unless you fellas can get down on a weekday, in which case I can do it in council time seeing as it is for their benefit.
  3. Had given that some serious consideration Drew.
  4. So I finally decided I couldn't quite stretch to the Hero 2 and ended up going for the cheapest version which is the 960. I get back to work and read Ian's last post and head straight back to the shop and exchange the 960 for the Helmet Hero. Now I've got to find the opportunity to start using it. I think the extras such as the battery pack and attachable LCD screen swung it in the end. If I use it enough I'll try and sweet talk Council into buying the Hero2.
  5. So Drew reckons to spend the extras and go for the GoPro2. Not sure if I can justify the extra moolas to be honest but we'll see what this weeks invoices bring in
  6. Do you even want to go there Adam?
  7. Not really sure Adam but so far that seems to be it, along with no wide screen.
  8. Adam, I looked at the cheapy 960 but Drew just talked me out of it. Reckon on going for the GoPro2 if you have the wonga was his advice. I'll get mine via the GoPro shop in the US if the dollars work out.
  9. Love my orchard ladder although it can get a bit wobbly with my fat ass at the top. Wouldn't like tackling some of the hedges I've done without it. I also use a ladder once in a blue moon to get up a tree when I'm feeling particualrly lazy or it's a difficult tree to access. Grandad YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
  10. Fair call.
  11. I dropped in to the local supplier today to ask the same question. He reckons for a beginner the basic model (960 I think) does what you need. If you're just using it for putting stuff up on youtube etc it'll suffice. If you want to start using it to sell your business or doing really fancy stuff with big screen TVs then go for the GoPro2 with all the hi def. The guy I spoke to reckons to start off cheap, see how much you use it and then if you want to go the whole shebang you only need buy the naked camera upgrade. Now I'm sure I'll get shot down in flames by Ian and Drew
  12. Haha, might be pushing it asking for anything else after the rigging kit, second arborist etc.
  13. $499 NZ, $299 direct from GoPro
  14. Think I might order one from the US. Even with shipping they seem a hell of a lot cheaper than buying NZ.
  15. So which is the one to go for? There seems to be several different versions.
  16. You gave it away??????????
  17. Couple of pro outfits in NZ do that bridge jumping. You can apy to have a go. Unfortunately there was one example of someone a year or two ago who (apparently) was too busy talking on the phone to remember to tie the rope to the anchor point and the lady on the other end of the rope hit the river bed. OSH took the guy to court for the fatality...obviously.
  18. Treescape and Asplundh are always looking. Spoke to one manager today who told me trying to get qualified guys was like finding hens teeth. Failing that have a look on trademe jobs under arborist. There's usually several advertised on there and on seek, another job website.
  19. About 180' up a Gum in Oz. Not to work but just for the sake of. The biggest I've climbed to work up was around 120' and that was just to take the top out next to some 330KV lines.
  20. Apparently he suffered from depression and I know only too well how that can affect ones thinking and mindset. Sad that he felt that this was the only way out. I hope now he gets some rest, RIP.
  21. Yeah, need it to be reasonably dextrous so to speak. Use for work and play rather than having to have two seperate film cameras.
  22. Let me know how you get on with it if you get one Adam. Thinking of getting one myself but not sure if it can be used as a simple handycam type thing as well.
  23. Man that's one hell of a Lombardy. Excellent Pics but reckon I'd be wanting a nice blue sky, no wind and plenty of sun for that job.
  24. If you like the chunky feel of the Willans the Skylotec will go down a treat. My Council harness is a treemotion but my personal one is a Skylotec. Can't fault either of them to be honest but the treemotion is way lighter and not as chunky.
  25. I almost started a similar thread myself a few days ago and then decided against it. I've certainly, at least to my eyes, seen a couple of threads decend into petty mud slinging and childish tit for tat exchanges. Most seem harmless and are from missunderstandings and people not being able to get across what is in their brain via the key board ( I sometimes have the same problem or I engage mouth before brain) but some seem to be downright nasty. Here's hoping the Mods threats to clamp down hard on those pushing the limits means that what I find to be an excellent site and resource is maintained as a friendly one.
