  1. Is there any contest? A half cut Shane McGowan with Kirsty MacColl wins it for me everyday and it's not a corny, half pie tune either.
  2. Seconded. Seems reasonably hard wearing too.
  3. I'm presuming you mean when the coil of throw line tangles itself into one massive knot? Especially when you haven't taken the time to coil it back into the bag properly.
  4. Got a 20m and a 37m (cheap off cut of good rope) and hoping to get a 50m. I also have a little 10m for those iddybiddy jobs.
  5. My Grandad (Father's side) was invalided out of WW1 after a mustard gas attack. My Grandad (Mother's side) was in the Royal Marines in WW2. My Uncle was stationed in Germany and brought home a german wife who had made it from East to West Berlin just before the Ruskies got there and then her family proceeded to help smuggle East Berliners over to the west. I learnt all this only a couple of year ago. Funny what you don't know about your own family.
  6. Danny Boy the whole reason the thread was put up was to find out if anyone had experienced this happening before and what effects it could or would have on the climber. As it turns out we also found out what could happen to the chipper so the idea was rapidly binned for obvious reasons. I thought the idea was actually quite a reasonable one as most incidences of a rope going through chipper are hear say (at least the ones that I had heard of 3rd or 4th hand) and we wanted to be able to use the video as a training tool for trainees and experinced groundie/arbies alike. If it saves a life or serious injury is it still such a daft idea?
  7. Happy Christmas all. Hmmmm that cider sure sounds a good idea right now, think I'll join you.
  8. Yep and we want to thank our lucky stars that Hitler was too much of a boof head to listen to his senior commanders who tried to talk him out of opening up an Eastern front and pursuing the invasion of Britain. There are so many ifs and buts though. There could have been many different outcomes to the war depeding on certain decisions being made or not made.
  9. New Plymouth is STILL in the sticks
  10. Oi! you still owe me a freebie
  11. I have to agree Drew. I don't think I'd ever buy climbing gear of ebay. I want to know that it comes straight out of the packet brand new, not dropped or played with and that I have a "paper trail" should something fail or go wrong. Too easy for an ebay seller to disappear.
  12. Around $180 Adam. Just bought one for the arb unit. Going to have a play with it once newby has got it mastered (he can teach me) then I might even buy another one if I can sneak the order number past the boss. It looks like a good bit of kit but having not done any SRT work I'm on a big learning curve at the moment. May as well dive in at the deep end eh.
  13. So Taupo District Council is now the proud owner of a spanky new rope wrench (Drew must be on a commision basis) along with a fair whack of other new gear. Can't wait to start playing tomorrow or next week.
  14. Long lost rotting hulks I'd imagine by now. Maybe one floating around at Horopito. Worked with a guy who used them all the time when he first started out along with axe and crosscut. I still kick myself I didn't learn more from him.
  15. Yeah thought ya might Drew. Mase has already spent the lot in his head and I have a feeling the wrench is on his shopping list. Got to say having read this thread, I'm keen to give it a go.
  16. This is a really bad thread to be reading when I'm heading to Treetools tomorrow with the council cheque book
  17. I'd love an old Matador but it'd cost a fortune to get to NZ. Some pictures might be nice though
  18. Loved and hated working in grave yards in the UK. Loved the peace and quiet and reading some of the head stones, hunting down the oldest etc. Hated reading those of all the servicemen who died in the wars. Always took the time for a little word of thanks before carrying on with the job.
  19. I'm a bit of a larger climber and can highly recommend both the treemotion and the skylotec kolibri. Still getting the adjustment right on the motion as it keeps pinching in the groin of one leg. The Kolibri was comfy from the word go but much heavier.
  20. I'm not going to comment on the wrongs and rights of this but only offer my own opinion. Personally it was nice to see someone putting one of these foul mouthed, ignorant, arrogant cocky little gits in their place and without it resulting in a punch up or big slagging match. I don't care if the big fella wouldn't have dealt to the fare dodger if he was bigger, he dealt to this one and that's one less ignorant prick on the train.
  21. Ha, that's the problem with working seven days a week Adam, I keep missing these things.
  22. Not sure if this has done the rounds on Arbtalk yet but my mate just put it up on his facebook page and I thought it was worth a post on here.
  23. No idea what CS41 entails. Anyone enlighten me?
  24. I'm happy to pay 250 to 300 quid (my last pair in NZ were $800) and have them last a life time of abuse rather than some cheap crap that breaks half way up a big Gum barrel. Not something I like the thought of.
