Peanuts for monkeys bro, maybe the odd banana if you're really good.
  4. If you are in Taupo make sure you drop in for a beer.
  5. I am not the only one then
  6. If I was in the Uk, hell yeah. Now I'm in NZ, not so much. If I was to offer advice; don't go to your grave wondering what could have been. If it doesn't work you can always go back to England.
  7. Unfortunately I think your stuck with it unless someone is coming out to Oz. I sometimes bring stuff in from Honeybros and even with the shipping on top it works out cheaper than buying them here but I've decided to support my local supplier anyway. Importing from the US is usually cheaper especially if the company is based on the west coast. The only other way is to ask someone if they can buy and send it for you or buy a whole heap of stuff at once to soften the blow.
  8. So basically without said pantin or similar it's rendered almost useless as an access device yet fantastic to work off? The next question I then have is; if you have to set the whole system up with pantin etc to access the tree, is this always the quickest method or is it better used in conjunction with other devices i.e. access the canopy DRT then swap to the wrench? Again, I started to get lost a little in the thread so apologies if all this has been answered before.
  9. Bear with me here fellas because I haven't done any SRT stuff before. My mate and I were having a yarn on site today while he had the wrench set up. I can see all the benefits of the wrench on a single rope working line but my query is; how is it for accessing the tree if you don't have stuff like a foot pantin? E.g. if you have a 40 foot stem with no branches for the first 25 feet how would it compare to a SJ for example? Hope that doesn't come across as to much of a stupid question.
  10. My point exactly Drew. It's just part of the culture here and nobody bats an eye. Been asked on a couple of occasions by old dears what my Tatts actually mean and how I got my ear done. The oldies don' seem fazed at all. The only time we need to cover up here is when working around power lines.
  11. In NZ it's part of the culture. Fair enough, I'm not Maori but I do have Moko and they have a meaning. I also work and have worked with a lot of people here and there's never been an issue with Tatts. You also find in NZ a lot of full face Moko. After a while it's just an everyday thing. To not hire someone/fire them etc on the basis of a tattoo here is most definately frowned upon and pretty much illegal. I've never been asked to cover mine up and I have both calves and a forearm done. I also have a dirty great ear tunnel and I've never been questioned about that either. As I said, most of it is part of the culture here and the large percentage of peole are neither offended or scared of Moko or Tattoo. And for the record; I believe that some body art, tattoo, Moko etc are in themselves works of art and do far from cheapen people.
  12. You ever work out if it would have been more cost effective to buy a new harness?
  13. I have a small bag, my other climber has a cube. Get the cube, my bag is a PITA compared.
  14. At college we were out doing felling training somewhere in Sherwood forest when one of the guys got stung by a bee. Next thing we know his face and hands started to swell and he had trouble breathing. One of the lecturers rushed him off to the forestry commision base where he had to have a shot to sort him out. seeing people stung has never been funny since.

Not a patch on this old girl Drew.

Bloody nice. Can't understand why so many people won't use them because "it's not how an arborist would do it". Sometimes they can be a god send.
  18. Seems it just me an thee that keep the dogs outside. I'd end up with fur and slobber everywhere.

Drew, what's the lift? Is it an Altec that Asplundh brought in from the US or did they have it specially built in Oz or NZ? What rig is it on? Bucket capacity on full extension when below the truck? It also looks like it's a triple boom set up or are my eyes deceiving me?
  20. I have two french mastiffs both of which are most definately outdoor dogs. No room for their great slobbering chops in my house I'm afraid. They each have their own kennel which get new wool blankets regularly through winter. Sometimes they'll share a kennel. Both also have decent coats for the colder winter nights but during summer they both seem to like crashing on the lawn or burrowing into the wood chip aorund the garden.
  21. Don't know about a steel shank but if you want a pair of boots that'll stand up to spending all day on a set of spikes you can't go past the Klimba Air Tirrols. I prefer my Meindles but the Klimbas were just awesome for days on end with spikes on.
  22. I'm going to be watching this thread with great interest. There seems to be two schools of thought at the moment; Rope wrench and SJ. I haven't tried either but I'm most definately getting a SJ and I might just go on the RW too and try them both over a long period just to see which I adapt to better and will work best for me.
  23. Just on the firearms side of things; A year or so ago in Auckland a guy broke into a hunting shop while the owner was also in the shop. The owner shot the offender in the stomach. Police at first looked at charging the guy but then decided it was a fair case of self defense and dropped the charges. I don't think you could get away with it for someone stealing logs but I believe the law has just changed and that a man can reasonably defend himself, his family and his property. I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will correct me.
  24. In all fairness a big dog does put off a high percentage of little scrotes and the casual light fingered type. Fine, if someone is serious about your gear they're going to get it one way or another but I know for sure my two French Mastiffs have deterred a couple of would be night time visitors. They picked on the neighbour instead but he was woken up by my mutts doing their nana and caught the guys rooting through his car for stuff. Chased them through the streets of Turangi stark bollock naked at two in the morning. I'd prefer to have the dogs as second line of defense and noise makers rather than none at all.
  25. eco, if you want a copy of my quote form just drop me a pm with your email and i'll scan one and email it down to you. Any good printing outfit should be able to dolly you about 10 quote books for $200 or so. If you can get a couple of other quote forms to compare it will help. Also, a good printers should be able to help with other ideas regarding terms and conditions as they do this kind of thing every day.
