  2. First i would like to thank nifty steve for some winch rope. Second steve bullman who told me to throw the rope over a bough but tie it off at the trunk to save climbing the tree. Third a friend of andy collins who taught me to tie a timber hitch. This all came together today i am clearing around another pond and i have a fire in the pond. i needed to fell a large ash tree into the pond but it was leaning away. got my long rope threw it over the bough tied it off with a timber hitch it came into the pond no trouble but the best was the knot does not get stuck:thumbup:

  10. Does anyone know what this is? I found it at the back of the woodyard shed. My guess is it was used to drag logs with. Where the buzzards feather is ther is a shackle ithink that had a chain on going up to a drawbar on the lift arms. Lower the lift arms hook one of the hooks onto rope around the trunk lift arms and drag out of the woods. What do you think:001_smile:

I asked her about the honey fungus and she said it is good to eat but it is the same as chicken of the woods it wants to be young and fresh you do not want to be eating old ones:001_smile: She also agreed with me about my Grifola frondosa she said you will find it starts to come out now we have had some rain:thumbup1:

    Cavat

Yes but can you understand it:lol: I phoned the local tree officer to see if he could run through it with me and explain it but he knew less about it than me. I met two young ladies on a :001_smile:RFS walk and they told me all about CAVAT. I think david MONKEYD HAS BEEN on a course about it with the London tree officers.
