  2. Nice one sean. The stag in my avatar i feed apples every morning and evening out of my hand and i call him with a whistle:lol: I am very lucky i have seen a stag set a hind i dont think many people get to see that but then i do have to put up with the roaring all night:lol:
  3. No i think not it was that Laetiporus Sulphureus again and this is the second large bough i have dealt with on this tree:001_huh:

  5. I got it right last time i went Dean i sent mrs oakman and the daughter to shops and i went looking at the trees in the parks. Sean my son and some friends came to richmond park he said dad it is brill i think next time i will come to Richmond and leave shopping alone:lol:
  6. Yesterday i was in london visiting my son in his halls of residence at sheperds bush. Two london planes had been felled i could see one was hollow the other was not did they have ganoderma? as a bit further along there was two planes with gano brackets sorry no pics i was on a bus and i forgot my camara. When we got to the city we went into a shop called apple crumble and fitch the que to get in was a mile long then mrs oakman bought the son a t-shirt and and waited in a que for an hour and a quarter to pay what is the world coming too i had to go outside i could not breath. Last week i worked all week and did not see or speak to a living soul then yesterday what a hell hole i think you london guys and gals need a medal to work there:thumbup:
  7. Same here Ben this was day two of my turning career. I have been collecting nice bits of wood and thought this could be a winter hobby for me. It is a stress reliever i was so chilled i nearly fell asleep:lol: I also tried carving a figure of a dog but that is not worthy of a picture:001_smile:
  8. My light pull was boxwood Dean it is a bit like ivory to look at it turns up like glass. I was reading i think in Ians books that turners do not put anything on boxwood.
  9. No it is walnut what a lovely colour it is a piece of the walnut i talked about in the walnut thread. Ialso had a play with some pieces of yew but they all went wrong and chucked them to the back of the wood shed:lol:

  13. In a field near andy collins two old men used to do firewood with a saw bench run with a flat belt from a tractor with a flywheel on it. At my yard i have a sandstone the old woodmen used to sharpen tools with and it was turned by hand i was wondering could i run this off a small stationary engine my brother has a whole shed full:001_smile:

  15. Risk assessments on blackberry. I will try and help if i can Andy. You need strong gloves, keep your arms covered up. If you do get a thorn remove it with tweezers and put some savlon cream on to stop it being infected.:lol:
  16. Yes he forgave me:lol: I cut the rings big enough for gun stocks i thought i would be rich but no the bosses wife had all the rings in the gardens for rustic seating for there partys:crying:
  17. I felled a walnut tree in an orchard it was DBH 2 foot i ringed it up as i could not do anything with it. The lady in the house phoned her friend a furniture maker and he said he would have paid £6000 for it as a whole trunk she told this to my boss but he agreed with me luckily. The wood was dark brown:001_smile:
  18. You have me sussed david he is away but it was in my work day. They were not ringless honey fungus the rings were all out today poor tree it is only about 40 years old:001_smile:
  19. Great job mate. Nice pics and video. I cant wait to see the milling pictures i bet there is a good pattern in it. It would be nice to think that a piece of wood like that could be in an art gallery in London:thumbup:
  20. Iwill have to watch it again now Dean as i am sure half a dozen bats flew out the eaves as you woke them up when the tree hit the gutter:lol:
