  1. I just sold a load of oak with some spruce in to get the fire going:thumbup1: In a farm shop near me they are selling 9 logs in a net bag £4.15 softwood the yuppies from London just buy a few bags for the weekend they don't care what sort of wood it is:001_smile:
  2. I am having a test tonight. I felled a dead Elm today cut it into 10 inch logs split with an axe and it is on the fire now wow the whole fire is aglow it is red hot:thumbup: I think i will bring some home every night
  3. I have never burnt any i usually burn it on the bonfire. Two woods i love and have for myself is white thorn and black thorn:thumbup:
  4. What is the truth about Elm as firewood if you read the poems or firewood charts they say Elm sits and smoulders and does not burn. I am clearing two ponds at the moment and there are about 100 Elms so it seems that will be in my cordwood stack for next year so what do you guys and gals think of Elm as firewood:001_smile:
  5. I am burning oak with a little ash and a bit of well seasoned spruce. It is colder here tonight clear sky and it has been bright all day.
  6. Nick i have got the five piece midi woodturning set. I want to get a couple of bowl gauges, and i like the parting tool Ian has.

  10. The fingernail bowl guages are brill and so is the small parting tool Ian you are lucky it went home with you LOL. I will be asking father christmas for one:thumbup1:

  12. Nick i have the same lathe as you i think. I am also saving up the pennies so i can buy a face plate and maybe later a chuck. Post a picture of your lathe and i will know then:thumbup:

  14. I had 11 dead oak trees felled and i wanted to fell one which was dying but the timber merchant (the faller) said he had heard that they were getting strict on this term. But myself and the faller both agree this mature oak will not flush next year it has been declining all this year.
  15. Very slow. But it is very mild i have been working in just a t-shirt for the last three days:001_smile: When it gets cold they will want some:thumbup:
  16. You are like i used to be steve turn your hand to all sorts of jobs. But i have never done electrics or plumbing i leave them to the experts

  19. I asked my boss if he could buy me the H&S disks from the AA he said no it takes a lot of reading i think he may have been right As to putting in to this site i thought i did put a lot in i must be wrong. i will have to do some more reading and put something good in.
  20. It would be very kind if someone could send me a daily R/A form i have one which i fill in every job but it is well out of line with the current way of thinking. I need to update this as the woods department needs to come into the right century. I think if this site could have all these forms ready to download and always up to date it would be very helpful and would save most of us searching the web for them:thumbup:

  22. Yes same as you the last couple of weeks. I am burning mostly oak off of the park and i have piles of oak cordwood stacked in the park shelter belts you must look after yourself no one else will haha

  24. Have you tried classic hand tools web site they sell some lancelot things
  25. I have got a 4x4 now. there are run off ditches which run from the low into the river i now fill them with willow rods so i can drive over and the water can still run through it lasts about 2-3 years them top them up:thumbup1:
