  1. I've been doing loads like that but pieces half the width 5 inchs or less for £100, though most of it is a wee bit damp, air / water dried lately infact. Only takes me two hrs with the splitter so I thought that was an ok price. But then people down here are tighter than a duck's backside.
  2. Looks more like Salix caprea, could be wrong maybe Hamamelis, but the pussy buds and leaf give it away really, no red on the flower which is a definate witch hazel sign. Bit early for goat willow though.
  3. Awesome wood piles, gives good satisfaction aswell as meditation I find.
  4. Ha Ha! not down this way we've got mountains of the stuff, can't tip my mulch at the moment LDV's and muddy fields don' mix as well as fish n chips. Still off to south India for a few weeks of 30 degrees, nice n dry there me ansomes.
  5. Heterobasidion annosum can cause bottle butt on conifers I believe.
  6. Here's an oddity in itself, shame its a young one. Queensland bottle tree (Brachychiton rupestris) at Melborne botanical gardens.
  7. horrible thing to happen, definately a reality check, I was at a seminar the other day with some photos of a guy with a bad scar from a cut and hold. Must say I've been keeping two hands on the saw a lot more. Its a real shame that these things happen to awaken the rest of us. My heart goes out to his loved ones.
  8. I like them a lot, occasionally stall without warning ( if you get a bad one ) but still prefer the Husky 372xp now thats a saw mmmm!
  9. best to buy a good brush or a blower and clear the mess up and admire a stunning tree, will make you feel better man! From a Euc lover.
  10. cheers mozza, for cheering me up(sorry bout your hand) theres always someone whos had a crappier day. Taking down some big Mac's in the rain, got my leg squished lowering a chunk of wood out, dropped another one which clipped the top of my knee. Come home soaked n Knacked and my 18month old son throws a dinky car at my forehead so hard, that it bled. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
  11. where abouts was that, rough area no address needed? where are you from?
  12. Cool, must find the time to pop down soon btw.
  13. Nice work mate, good to see a bit o local work, oo arr! Might be worth having the planks kiln dried, have you met Phil Alston in Constantine? he has one, I'm taking some cedar down there soon as I want a right proper nice bookcase.
  14. Treesurfer dont mean to be rude but that last pic the leaves look like a sea grape (Coccoloba uvifera) to me. Sure ain't no olive Where in Portugal was the cork oaks? I'm off to the Algarve tomorrow.
  15. Thanks for the info, its a good point Dean think its best to leave it to the pros. I'm a tree monkey, not a greasy one either!
  16. Well Holt JCB are the local TW dealers down here now, but not sure if they'll sting me more than Dougie. At least I know he's done a few before.
  17. Think the bearings went on my chipper today, white smoke, nasty sound, wont' turn over, even melted the nut cap near the roller motor. Bugger! Anyone know how much it costs to have them replaced? probably take it to Tavistock.
  18. I tried a crunchy peanut butter, hob nob triple decker sandwich at a festie this year. Funniest moment so far. Dry as the desert!
  19. That was mine but using gumthrobbing cheddar instead of the mayo:laugh1:
  20. Work for people in oz is always there if you look hard enough, Melborne is a good place to do arb after working in Qld. Visit Treeworld site and post a few notes there, they have a job page on the site anyway. Dave at Arborco in central Melborne may be looking for climber/groundies.
  21. my mate has put a temporary banner up advertising his tree surgery company, its on the busiest road in cornwall nearly at the main junction to the only city, Truro. Commuters have to wait there every morning. He's been getting a lot of calls including the largest public school in the county, good for me cos he's got no kit and he gets me in to climb/plant hire etc. Have to check with the Council before the banner goes up though.
  22. Tom I Think that would be Perenniporia fraxinea. Here's one we did earlier still yet to finish.
  23. Will do Dave, would be interesting to meet someone like that.
