  1. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/climbers-talk/6530-speedline-shortening-knot-2.html#post127722Thought I'd share these with you folks.
  2. yeah good advice, we had to use the munter hitch on a few bits and used a prussic for the middle z rig pulley which after smashing a heavy piece into it burned half through :angryfire:and was respectfully binned, the job is done now and we are waiting for some photos from the archeologist who was paid to watch my every move for two days. Not really possible to use somone else on the control line as most of the time I was way out over a grade II listed mill building which was in a very bad state. English Heritage the local council and myself breathed a big sigh of relief after that one. Here are some site photos. Note the large ganoderma.
  3. the knot I was using before wasnt a sheepshank but like it and tied off twice at the top and bottom? I dunno can't really remember. Prussik sounds like a simple idea that can allow you to slacken the speedline easily, will give it a go - don't know if the force of the piece hitting it will cause problems though? Thanks for the info guys.
  4. The middle pulley is where the tensioning takes place and the rope is fed through before being tied off, also where the section zipped out stops.
  5. Hi all, I've got some speedlining to do in a week its been a couple of years since the advanced course and I can't remember which is the best shortening knot to fix up the middle pulley with, theres gonna be loads of tying and untying so the best ideas would be simple. I'm not sure if a sheepshank does it ok?
  6. I've got one and think its crap, the silky I use kept on falling out and hitting the deck with my groundies below:thumbdown:. I carried on using my folding one on a bit of pull cord never fails me, each to their own eh!
  7. anyone want a 361 for spares I've one kicking around in my garage? Pay postage and its yours, it runs but konks out after fingers off the trigger.
  8. Heres some photos of the recent storm, a month ago now, been away for 2 weeks but better late than never. 1. Hung up nightmare, i'm in there somewhere. 2. One of the site and large downed macrocarpa. 3. Another on a house to clear up (note the croquet lawn). 4. Narly radiata with minimal anchor and laterals over house. 5. Very wet but happy with no damage, in 12ft drop zone.
  9. Anyone know why this happens to timberwolf/entec Tw 150 machines? at the moment I'm using the good ol' bungee method. It started happening when one of the v belts snapped and stripped the coating from the throttle cable.
  10. Thanks for that Tony and Arnold much apprieciated:001_smile:
  11. Hi just wondered if anyone had a basic tree survey template I could use as I have the odd property to assess after the winds, cheers.
  12. Yeah, just looked at some absolute carnage on the Helford passage where 120 trees came down over the weekend. 2 weeks of work clearing 12 large Cupressus macrocarpas and thats just one property. Shame to see root plates sticking up like that but also can't wait to start on those dodgy hung up ones:scared1:. Post some pics next week, if I have time!
  13. Thanks for that Global, what a way to start the year. Bust crankshaft on your chipper, may need another engine if the innereds are all kuput, bugger!
  14. Anyone got a good crankshaft for a TW 30 150dh or know where I can find one?
  15. That looks wicked, would love to have a go on that one. Making you own requires a nice long bit of wire rope 16mm is good and cranking it up with a winch to something strong. We made one on my mates farm using his unimog's winch, you had to swing you legs up half way down to clear a hedge, it was great fun.
  16. Definately Eucalyptus gunni, will grow faster than a leylandii on amphetamines that one.
  17. I've been told that my insurance may not stand up if my chainsaw ticket isn't refreshed i.e. upto date. The last one was 98 actually the day I passed, so I know that HSE advise 5 years for regular users and 3 years for occasional users, and apparently 5 years is only for professional tree fellers in forestry? I'm not really sure about this. Anyway the insurance company have copies of my certs and gave me the insurance, this is a bit confusing as surely that would suggest everything is fine. But trusting insurance companies is hard to do. I think I will take the refresher asap. What do you reckon?
  18. The darn thing took a knock and snapped off today, Bugga! Do you have to take off the fuel tank and prise it apart, looks like a pig of a job does anyone have experience of changing these? Any tips would be good?
  19. Looks like my chipper starting up lol!
