Still erring on the cautious side and guessing the weights is a good game against what the computer tells you it is the big log in 1st picture which was about 15 or 16" at cut was just over a ton which means I'm good for that lift at 12m out and straight up to 24m Best position is to within 10m of your cut point which gives 1500kg of available lift which is realistically a rather massive lump of tree that going to be difficult to put down so better to do small and often so the guys can clear it as you go.

AC price sell the nisula tilt grabs and think they have one reduced at moment, only problem with these is they are very long when tilted so a 2.5 struggles to lift high enough to work close in This is a jak 250 on a 8t bobcat and you can see how long from end of dipper to blade it is, yes it's very manovarable and excellent at stacking but got to be out a bit or drags on ground, few mods I have in mind to help with this eventually.

More forestry this week working in tandem with Low Impact Forestry Ltd and his excellent little Log Bullet getting into all the tight or seriously wet bits of the woodland to finish of two thinnings jobs, both machines excelling at what they do one being light and quick on short hauls the other shifting 7-9 ton a turn the half mile + to the wagon stacking area

You need to have a look for the old Maurice Saunders books with lots of pictures from the 40s onwards of how they shifted truly massive timber with very basic equipment compared to today's machine's -

No mixing as run on aspen all the time and have used husqvarna cans for about 4 years without any problems with the spouts which I put down to not using pump fuel which has been proven to degrade them. We have more issues with the oil fillers getting broken so gone into the old fashioned pore type.

Jackson s didn't have any last year when I needed bits so we actually found it easier to send all the cilnders to a wagon parts reconditioning company, sorry can't remember who off hand and everything came back as new for less cost.

I know it's probably not the most important thing in the scheme of things but do you think the ecologists will have to wind there neck's in this spring since we are effectively loosing the last chance to get stuff cleared and keeping the economy going is more important than possible disturbing a few nests. Might get shot down for this but hey it's been on my mind along with everything else.
