  1. Hardly a deterrent if a 38k fine means you can get 2 more 200k houses on the site. I know that particular tree officer and I'm sure he'd have been pushing for more!
  2. Following on from a post in today's job thred here is two further trees in the same parkland for you to muse over David. Nice hollow sycamore that house jackdaws and packed with sticks, lost is top last year but is quite shelter inbetween to others so will stop and the ash I believe has shaggy bracket, without book can't spell proper name. Lost a big limb about a year ago and fruity body's appear round this wound so going to heavily reduce just the hight to drop it below the hight of the woodland edge about 30m away so hopefully shelter it a bit Viable plan?
  3. We are going back to monolith some other old ash and start a bit of retrenchment on some compromised oaks within the grazing fields outside the main hall grounds most of which were ear marked for a stump but talked the head forester into letting us give them a stay of execution. I think they fear the liability side of things after a jump stewards car was badly damaged at the last event when a large chestnut limb failed and hit it mid competition, luckily noone was hurt. Can't save em all David.
  4. Start low and hope for the ebay bidding fever to set in close to the end
  5. Wooo just looked at your link, that's come down in price from the op's link at 73k!
  6. Check out his Facebook page, not business 1, his own nd see for yourself.
  7. Chris gill just bought it!!
  8. Possibly but where it was in a very used part of the parkland it was considered unnecessary as bouldering a woodland where trees of equal habitat value course little potential danger in comparison. This particular estate has many large veteran trees in among younger plantations which are.mostly left to there own devices. The trunk is likely to be winched into the wood and left as offers little comershal value so will be left to the bugs and beasty decay squad.
  9. No climbing josh, had my flying carpet with me ;-)
  10. All the fun and non of the pain as the estate staff are going to sort it on Monday. :-D
  11. Surely the point in having a tpo on a tree is to protect it and help prevent poor standards of work being subjected apon them?? And surely as an arb company trying to promote a high standard it should be encouraged that if we know it's about to go wrong it should be prevented if possible rather than see a perfectly healthy tree be damaged to a point it may become unviable much sooner than it should rather than sit back nd say wasn't me so not my problem and leave it to the council to pathetically pursue a prosecution.
  12. Ha Haa think that was the only decent bit of timber in it! Made the fransgard squeal a bit as had to tip the tree against its lean to avoid a dawn redwood and a mettle fence and luckily that buttress was in rite place to hold it over.
  13. Went to remove a big dead limb on this ash thisafternoon before a big horse trials in a fortnight and luckily spotted it was non to healthy so a few Phonecalls and down it came. The split was actually opening and closing in the breeze.
  14. Simply put Edward I didn't want the tree officer who I've spent a lot if time gaining the trust and respect of to drive past and think as the agent and applying contractor I've done a crap poor standard job so felt I needed to make it clear I no longer was handling the work. If you had seen some of the trees the owner had expertly pruned himself with ladders and black and dekker reciprocating saw you'd have been concerned too. There is no way he'd have been able to carry out the work to the standard required. So put simply I was covering my own arse and reputation!
  15. Two more saws sugied curtsy of chainsawbars.com :-D Cheers Rob
  16. That's not as bad as I thought it could have been running big saws for that amount of cutting but at least you don't have a fume hangover tonight!
  17. That's a whole lot of aspen being burnt! Good saw for it mind :-)
  18. That's cool, made up a.saw holder similar to the very expensive things you can get out of a few off cuts of stock board, will get a pick for you later.
  19. I'm the same as hodge with the fee for gaining permission but then not doing the work and this also includes if the client changes there mind and not proceed with the work at all. Only had to do this once as client decided to do the work themselves, once they payed me I accidentally told the tree officer who payed them a visit and explain a few things to them, trees never got done.
  20. Easier to do what we do with the rc3001 and put a sling around the trunk and hang the block from that while fitting the strap.
  21. You've seen my old 130 then, if there ain't no oil under it there ain't anymore oil in it!
  22. Easy done, works on chain oil and the ever present leak from a landrover so don't see why it won't work on hydraulic oil.
  23. Persil biological washing powder, sprinkle it on ad a drop of water to make a paste, brush vigorously and wash of, repeat again and that normally gets it.
  24. Nice and simple that hodge, few tweaks and thats what I need too, will get Mrs onto it now she's almost a lady of leisure as both kids go to school today.
  25. He has tooth ake not a death wish eggs!!
