  1. I would think the boys on the Landrover forums will be able to advise if no replies are forthcoming here. A
  2. I need to be able to offload mine using a pump truck down a tail gate, a cube of hard is more that a handfull, anything more would simple be an accident waiting to happen. I do also probably want to order some so we will see what offers are there. A
  3. I want to look at hydraulic processors and hyd racks, having recently had a heart op my manual JAPA 700TRE is hard work and slow. Will have a Tee shirt if I can find your stand please. A
  4. Chip boilers are not really viable for normal private houses unless heating several, just to big and handling the fuel is difficult in small volumes. Pellets are far more viable against oil as they can be set up with bulk fill systems. A
  5. Dalen 2052, chainsaw machine with a good reputation here. As a TCT user how often do you need to sharpen your chain ?. I was talking to a guy with a Hakki 37 the other day who said once every 2 weeks on hardwood using it every day. Find that hard to believe. How on earth did you get that twig onto the processor with no rack?. A
  6. Cant see it myself. AS you have a Clearview I would suggest that you talk to their technical people for advice. ALL boiler stoves have two outputs, heat output to water and heat output to room. When added together they equal the total output. I note the 650 only shows 12kw as the total output, it is a fair sized stove so I would expect at least 2 or 3 kw of room heat from it. The 650 is toward the top end of boiler outputs, Boru have a couple of bigger ones ( the biggest at 30kw is not E marked or tested, it should be for UK use) and Brosely have the massive eVolution 24. There may be others. Say 10kw to the water from your 650 would be enough for 4 decent rads and DHW only, I dont know enough about your panels to know what their winter output is likely to be. My own 25kw boiler only just keeps up with 14 rads so I cant see your stove doing so + a bulk tank without some massive help. A
  7. Perhaps local groups could be set up sharing machinery and costs. I have had an overture along those lines recently. A
  8. Suggest you talk to Caledonian, JAS Wilsons and Fuelwood. They usually have an idea of customers thinking of upgrading from the machine you seek. A
  9. Fleet facts magazine tells me that a new Disco diesel now costs 1.50 per mile to run, + trailer costs and extra fuel consumption. My Disco is a series 2, so little depreciation but quite expensive to maintain. I am looking to base my delivery fees on 1.50 per mile there AND BACK !!. So one bag is free at 5 mile radius, so 15 miles = 10 miles each way to be paid for at 1.50 + VAT at 20%. Thats £36 inc VAT. Above that its easier to use a pallet carrier. 30 miles each way at £10 in total goes nowhere, it buys you a gallon and a half of diesel, pulling a trailer thats about 20 miles. A
  10. Thats a fair deal. A
  11. No sign off as safe then no insurance if you ever have a fire unless you have ot agreed in writing by your insurer. I have known NFU to accept this but no other insurers. A
  12. Coal !!, not in a stove, it burns very dirtily and can in a low oxygen burn ( ie overnight) explode if the door is suddenly opened allowed a large amount of oxygen to enter. Check your owners handbook for recommended fuels, Anthracite ( smokeless coal) and smokeless fuel in its various guises are usually recommended with of course wood. A
  13. The problem you have is with the plumbing not the stove. What is happening is that the stove is getting all the cold water back into it thereby reducing the stove heat. You will also be getting tars and excess soot in the flue due to the low firebox temperatures. Talk to your plumber, Esse do a Boiler Control unit, this is an external box that will not allow cold water to flow back into the stove untill the stove ( or cooker) has reached its operating temperature, it then maintains that temperature by regulating the return ( cold )flow back into the stove. I think this the same or a similar bit of kit that Martin Jenkins is talking about. I am sure that there are other similar devices on the market. As an aside I assume someone has signed the installation off as safe to use?. A
  14. Yes, I think its 3300kg if used for hire and reward, might be wrong on that. carrying logs there is no need to go to top weights, its not a heavy product for its size dry. Not sure you can plate at what you like, type approvals come into play but it should be do able on a new build trailer I would have thought. There is a loop hole when you are taking equipment to site within 50k of base, providing you have a trailer max gross weight of below 3300kg then you wont need a tacho. Load it with timber that is for re processing and sale on the return and you will. You also have to comply with drivers hours regs if driving under tacho requirements. Cant see why you don't all drop bulk, given the choice between a pile of logs dropped on a driveway or a nice clean bag on a pallet in a garage what would you pick?. You also can demonstrate the measure (volume) of product you are selling far more easily. Some round here sell a big load, small load, half load, with nothing to say exactly how much wood or about how many logs teh customer is getting for his or her dosh. A A A
  15. Thats o licence and all that. Keep below 3500, then its tacho only. A
  16. I used to deliver quite a few locally using a John Deere, the bulk grain bucket holds 2 cube level full. A
  17. Thats 333kg per cube, 4 cube on an IFW tiltbed = say 1500kg inc pallets, pump truck etc, gross weight of trailer can be as low as 3000kg, so tacho but no op center or O Licence. Unladen weight of a TB4621-302 is 764kg + drop sides so I recon I should be able to carry 2,000 kg and be legal, say 5 pallets at 380 kg + pump truck. TB Tiltbed - New & Used Trailers - Horsebox, Livestock, Plant, Tippers, Car Transporters, Flatbed, Box Van, Spares Been pulled off the M6 once and weighed but thats all. Intersestingly the weigh bridge could not get a reading as my trailer axles were to close together, mind you I only had about 400kg on board at the time. A
  18. Chances are that you wont be looking to load at the same time as processing. If so then yes a new loader but bear in mind that if you load bags from the rear then a teleporter while more expensive would be a better bet. You will also need a drop down tail ramp and a pump truck, then you arrive on site and roll them off with the pump truck. I have now stopped doing bulk, bags are the way forward but on a Transit or 7.5 tonner where you wont have a ramp then a tail lift or crane would be needed. Mainly loading bulk then anything with a bucket, I bought a good MF135 with bucket a while ago for 2700 + VAT. A
  19. Any wood or solid fuel appliance of 5.1kw or above requires an air vent, if installed into a newish property that is air tightness tested then all solid fuel appliances require an air vent. Some stoves are now fitted with connectors to attach to an air supply pipe connected to a dedictaed air vent thereby preserving the air tightness of the property. Building Regs stipulate that a flue existing from a single story extension or similar be at least 2.5 meters from the taller property, or the flue has to exit at the height of the main property. Sounds like the AGA was not installed by someone who knows what they are at and it sounds highly likely that is had not been signed off as safe to use. Not unusual these days I am afraid. A
  20. That is the way forward I think geared with distance and volume, got to go about 8 miles each way at 7am tomorrow with 2 cube of hard, total inc vat £210 and that is without thinking about carriage. A
  21. And its illegal under the building regs Approved Doc J, unless the stoves are in a retail showroom. No one will sign such an installation off as safe to use and without a sign off your insurer will invalidate your cover if you ever have a fire and then you will also be prosecuted for breech of building regs, fine around 4k. So in a residential property its a total NO No. A
  22. Most small stoves want 280mm MAX, to make sure they load nicely I cut at 240mm and split everything above 50mm diameter. 0nly 15% of my stove sales could take longer logs. A
  23. [so keep yr eyes open for it if i find out who knicked they better be a bloomin good fast runner as im a dab hand with a 22.250 rifle Sorry to hear that, we had ****** nick the ali flue pipes of the Turkish restaurant in the village last Monday, mid morning, everyone thought they were builders !. A 12 loaded with BBs would be better, bullets are ballistically traceable, even V Max's. A
  24. I am just starting my third season in firewood. In order to establish some busiiness I have not in the past charged for delivery, however with a new Landrover Discovery costing £1.25 a mile to run ( ref Fleet News) without the trailer then this must change. Mine is an old dog Disco 2 though, not a lot of depreciation but some repairs as you might expect. I envisiage 10 mile radius free delivery then so much a mile over that ( got to go there and back !!) . As my reputation for quality is rapidly spreading I am starting to get calls from 40 miles plus away. Thing is pallet rates using carriers are about £40 so over 30 miles it will be cheaper to use a carrier, but then I loose my bag and pallet. My current wood trailer holds 2 x 1 cube bags, I probably need one to take four bags and do a milk round run. So what do you chaps do selling logs at 30 + miles away ?, if you charge for delivery how much per mile?. Thanks A
