My local mower retailer got fined £2.5k for delivering mowers on a twin axle trailer pulled by a 4 door pick up without tacho. When I 'visited' you drove slowly over a set of rollers, but my axles on the trailer were to close together for them to get a reading. Once I told them I only had 400 kg on board they lost interest saying 'we can see by the springs you are not overloaded'. A

No, I got pulled off the M6 north of Birmingham in a Police/Vosa check with a Disco and IFW 10 foot box trailer, they said 35 miles if on buisness ( I sell and deliver stoves and cookers) That was about 2014 time though hence I figured maybe things have changed. My brothers are farmers and pull bigger cattle trailers with no tacho as they are exempt. A
  4. I have been very disappointed with the quality of my 560XP, two engine rebuilds in under 300 hours. When running its a lovely saw, but ! cant hack unreliable kit. Hopefully the 562 has ironed out the bugs on 560. But after a lifetime of Husky I have just bought my first Sthil, a 462. The 560 will be a back up saw to it. A
  5. 5.1kw or above, 5.0 kw does not need vent if installed in pre 2008 property although it is good practise to do so. All stoves legally need to be signed off as safe to use as you say. A

Has that changed ?, I thought it was 35 miles ( so about 50K) A

Only if using it for business use, which I would think you are. I have a tach in my Defender as pulling a trailer I can max out at about 5.3 tonnes. Been pulled off the M6 for a vech check including tacho in the days when I used a Disco instead, A
  8. Do a search here, it will come up. Buying in Latvia or Lithuania is best, but there are a number of hoops to jump through, you will need to order in 40 foot containers and be able to unload same in 2 hours max. A
  9. We insulate most inset stoves as this is most manufacturers recommendation but we very rarely insulate free standing stoves. My home and showroom freestanding stoves both burn dry but lower grade wood, willow, pop, pine etc, the stoves are run pretty well flat out all the time. Both stoves do about 1000 hours a year and are not shutdown overnight, I sweep the chimney every 2 years and never get any more than a kilo of soot out. A
  10. Agreed, it now looks like they are getting their hands into plumbing.
  11. Me, along with willow, pine and conni. Pop if dried well is fine and generates significant heat. Been burning it in my showroom this winter, A
  12. Think it was a time thing, to many sales and not enough stock ready to go. A
  13. That is a fact, friend here has some from a different supplier to mine and had to put it into his kiln to finish the drying, dont need to do that with my guy but cost is higher, A
  14. Your logs are fine, research by a major UK stove manufacturer has revealed that the optimum moisure level for minimal particulate emissions is 11% - 13%. My own imported kiln dried product is quite a bit drier than that, customers love it, never had a complaint. A
  15. It is, £40 I would suggest is about right depending on the weight. But is costs £1.50 a mile to run a delivery van or 4x4, plus the trailer, so there and back = £60 plus your time, so £70 actually probably cheaper than you can do it. A
  16. That is a pretty substantial set of wires in the carriageway, should be not to hard to spot. Suggest its probably within a few miles of a weigh bridge. I have just such a weigh bridge at M1 J18 so will have a look as I drive that bit of motorway fairly often. A
  17. I find Geodis pretty good for sending stoves, hand deliver all my wood though. Prices will depend on the number of pallets per day. A
  18. Learnt something today !!. A
  19. I retail stoves, not Jotul for several reasons. I am not aware of any other quality stove builder saying that. I have burnt lots of Pine over the years, once dry it burns like hell. I have never had any issue with chimney deposits., great heat output, just 30 min reloads as opposed to 40 mins or so with hardwood. Just get it dry and the stove nice and hot before loading it. A
  20. Can see how a prospective purchaser would know or ask about likely spares back up. Its just not a question that comes up at point of sale but is taken for granted that spares are quickly and easily available. Its only 5 years down the road when they need a grate or a baffle plate they find out the truth. By that time many on line and distance sellers have long gone. A
  21. Thats what I thought. A
  22. Not heard that one either. A
  23. Once you explain that Firefox and the like are imported probably from the far east or eastern Europe most people ( ladies especially) want to buy a British made product. For every Hamlet I sell 100 Aarrow/Villager ( Arada) stoves. A
  24. I use a £35 Morso moisture meter so probably not bang on accurate. I usually billet over size stuff in May/june then store outside on bearers for nine months, cut to length and store in vented bags in a dutch barn with three open sides the following spring. Sub 250mm cord gets put through the processor in the spring whole. On my gauge its about 8% external at this time of year, by the spring its risen to about 12 - 14% again external. AT the end of the day a couple of percent here and there is not that important, Hetas are now allowing 20% under their wood sure scheme. I have today been burn Euc in the showroom stove, only felled this spring my gauge said 19% so I thought I would give it a go. It burnt yes but not as well as I would like and will therefore be stored for another year in vented bags. A
