  1. Looks like not, but the info I found dates from 2012. When I spoke to the FC inspector a couple of weeks ago when he came to check some imported Ash he said the die back was now everywhere pretty well. Maybe I need to speak to him as I bet we have 30 affected trees at least. A
  2. Probably 30% of our mature Ash here are affected, only slightly at present, one 5 foot diameter trunk has about 6 feet of top growth that has not come into leaf for 2 years, it will have to come down I think. We have very few immature Ash having planted larch/spruce in the 60s and Beech and Birch in the 80s. What is the procedure for the wood from diseased trees today ?, can we sell it as firewood ?. Thanks A
  3. Hamlet are an Arada brand not Stovax. The Hamlet widescreen has a glass 50% smaller then the Ecoburn but its a lower price. Been there done the maths, the guy went away with the Ecoburn. Certainly widescreen 5kw stoves have destroyed sales for 5.1kw to 7.5 kw models especially as many of the latter need to be flued using 150mm systems and needing air vents. Given that responsible sellers dont sell them for use in a 3 kw room then they do sell well. A
  4. We buy it in 2.35m tall crates and it works out at £75 a loose cubic metre for birch. Yes ash is now £40/50 more per crate. I buy some of those for decanting into smaller bags but the bulk is in crates about half that size, these are delivered to customers as they are. A
  5. I have some, natural wood wool and wax similar to the Flamers product, and they hold together better than most in the market. PM me for prices, carriage would be on top unless you collect, I am in central Northants. A
  6. Cord or kiln dried logs. Most Lithuanian suppliers are £105 - £110 for a stacked crate of KD that would come out at about 1.5 - 1.6 cu m. So your figures are not to far out but quality Ash cord is now in very short supply in Lithuania and quality is suffering. Birch is fine. A
  7. If you are thinking you can buy cord in today, cust it and sell it tomorrow as seasoned wood you wont keep many customers. After cutting/splitting it needs at least six months to dry out. A
  8. Women want things wrapped that wont get their hands dirty when they pick them up. Compare the prices of loose and pre packed carrots in a supermarket. A
  9. Having complained about the percentage of Ash logs showing signs of decay in my last container from Lithuania my supplier has advised me that good clean Ash cord is now pretty well impossible to source over there, their Beech is superb but I will probably take some of their Oak next time unless I give a different supplier a go who has nice Ash. Those of you who I have recommended to that supplier, the 1.17 cu crates were all pretty good, but of the bigger ones some had 25% of the logs showing signs of decay. All perfectly dry but just not looking nice and being somewhat down on calorific value I suspect. They are at the Arb show next weekend. A
  10. What volume are you looking for ?, previous posts suggest a cubic meter or two. If you are looking for container loads repost to that effect. A
  11. Will have a look at that once I get it back, thanks for the heads up. A
  12. I did put a new plug in when the problem first occurred hoping that was the issue, have not checked gap between coil and flywheel though, not sure how to go about that but when it last went in a couple of weeks ago I did ask that they serviced it and changed the air filter at the same time. Saw was new in April 2014, does around 50/60 working hours a year, cutting up wind blown trees mainly, Once its running it runs nicely, picks up and idles fine and has seen no noticeable drop off in power, with the exception of the delayed hot start then its pretty well all as per normal. Thanks again for your help and advice, A
  13. Dealer came back today saying they have not been able to find any problem with it. Maybe its me not pulling it hard enough after all. Time will tell. new MS462 arrives next week so I dont suppose the 560 will now get much use.
  14. My customer was a guy from the city who had never ordered wood before so you have to cut him a bit of slack. He thought the new house he bought was equipped with a gas stove. Alas no gas in that village. A
  15. If its sat for 15/20 minutes while I tidy up/load the timber I have cut I give it two maybe three pulls with no choke, no decomp valve, just a few pushes of the bulb to make sure the fuel has not evaporated. Given that does not start it, move choke lever to the top ( choke on position) then push in down to the run position where it holds the throttle part open. dont touch de comp valve, sometimes a few more pushes of the bulb and pull away. I used to fire up 2nd or 3 rd pull but not now. Sunday I got into that situation twice, it took 20 pulls to start it. It does run fine once running. Took it back to the supplying dealer today who was also the guy who repaired it. The usual servcie guy was away on hols but the replacement had not heard of the Husky retrofit crankcase with extra bolt to increase clamping and prevent gaskit failure. Maybe I will have to take it to the APF show and talk face to face with Husky themselves. A
  16. Its around £70 a ton road side for good hardwood cord in the East Midlands. A
  17. There is now a shortage of quality Ash roundwood in Lithuania, exporters there are currently concentrating on Oak and Birch. I did speak to my supplier the other week about becoming FSC Certified but they said they were not. A
  18. 10 years ago when I retired from the motor industry and was half looking for something interesting to do I went to a renewable conference at the Newark show ground. One of the speakers was growing big acreages of willow for biomass and had modified significantly a JD forage harvester to cut it. Looking at the show guide now and checking the companies out on line almost all have gone to the wall. In fairness there were also quite a few working in the bio diesel field. Looks like the pig industry, very cyclical. A
  19. Nice ideas but I have no customers that buy ahead, if they did they would be looking for added discounts. I had a guy last week buying his first wood, complained that he had leaves ( about three hand fulls) in his bag and bucket full of chips from the splitter in the processor. I have not been able to source decent cord for 5 years or so hence I import kiln dried. Plenty of people have told me they can supply, I order 100 tonnes or so for delivery May- Sept and nothing appears. Having said that with the price of decent hard cord at £70 ride side plus transport at £10 plus a ton I have plenty of perople selling at £100 a cube delivered inc VAT, that is simply not on unless getting the wood for a lot less. I can see quite a few used medium size processors coming onto the market in the next couple of years. All I am currently processing is fallen trees from the farm and the farm next door. A
  20. Pull it as fast as I can, but will try again pulling faster. I usually give it two maybe three pulls when restarting with no choke or throttle on. This problem did not exist prior to the crankcase gasket problem occurring. Cold start is perfect as is a very hot start after a two minute refuel stop. Thanks for your input. A
  21. Only when starting cold, it pops out after the first pull anyway. A
  22. Well I got the 560 back last week, used it today. Clear up a smallish wind blown willow still attached laying over a big ditch, and clear two big still attached Ash limbs. Took most of the day but only two refuels. Saw was exactly the same as when I took it in, stop for two mins to refuel. Pull it to restart and off it goes. But leave it for 10 or 15 minutes to load some of the timber cut and its very reluctant to start. AM I getting something wrong , 4 or 6 pushes of the bulb , 2 or 3 pulls with no choke, if no go move choke lever up to the on position then lower to the run position, then pull again. The latter sets the throttle open. Has taken 10 - 15 pulls to start, never used to have this issue. Going to take it back to the dealer who rebuilt it on Tuesday unless anyone has any advice to the effect I am doing something wrong. Got a 462 on order arriving next week. A
  23. Husky will not cover warranty if not used with their synthetic two stroke oils. My one seized in a very short time, they blamed the 'inferior' 2 stroke mix sold to me by the dealer with the saw. That was Sthil standard 2 stroke mix. Took the threat of legal action to get that resloved. Geoff
  24. Here you go: https://www.gerrymet.co.uk A
  25. There is a company on Birmingham that supplied me a new TCT blade for my Japa 700. Dont have details to hand but could find them tomorrow if needed. A
