  5. Nope-after 12 yrs climbing-still can't do it-FKIT an used a petzl footaccender instead K
  6. Ohhhhh Yes ! Anyway- my 40% injury is from ( at the time ) 60% of respondants had not had a hit -therefore 40% had. As our industry is so small -this is huge. Most of the feedback I've had is that it occurs tophandled/one hand cutting -cut n hold. Or Falling with rearhandled, whilst cutting. I have a problem with the system with this- many companies are actively setting out systems that will lumber you with all the liability for an injury on yourself. If our hit rate is so high- you can be truely f kd in the wrong company. Never mind the painful reabilitation. K
  7. Bit shocked at all this- for the last few years have heard so many / seen so many injuries from ( esp Tophandled) from chainsaws- Basically if we were soldiers and presented a 40% Shot self / shot comrade rate -what do you think would happen ? K

  9. The first rule of timber lowering club is 'Double your safety margin...' The second rule of timber lowering club is 'DOUBLE YOUR SAFETY MARGIN !' K ( Who burnt his 18mm pulley strop on the last lump he lowered -should have soaked it ?)
  10. Yeah- it's great -I use it all the time- corse I now walk like a paraplegic dwarf- but the girlfriend doesn't mind....... k
  11. I didn't see one that had a tea-maker on it.......Rubbish, it'll never catch on. K ( An' where's the fchn biscuits.....) Obviously Beranecks run out of arb books to publish......
  12. Maybe...not for much longer.....
  13. Glad you said it before I did-good use of the Sherman tank hull-obviously converted it to Diesel instead of the petrol aero-engine it would have had. Wot a bunch of puffs though- Thought I'd met all the big-girls blouses in this job.......
  14. Nice bit of saturday morning reading http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7604721.stm
  15. Hmmm- Highways ? Cheap, mate.....dun'wory, K
  16. I wasn't going to add to this thread because so much good stuff has been said- however, Linda -Et Al, has hit the nail on the head here and I have seen way tooo much of this 'attitude' mentioned. Our industry will keep having the appalling injuries we have until something is done properly. I have berated climbers on site- for just this sort of cutting and just been called 'a c-n- ' for it. I do not want to go to work and have to pick up the casualty off the deck one day. It is about time the AA, HSE, ISA, ect started showing if they have 'the teeth' for this job -or just pack up an SHUT UP. K ( PM me if you have a solution / suggestions -cos' I am at a loss.....)
  17. Taken me a while to get round to that way of thinking-but I am now fed up with seeing people turn up on a job and have a blunt saw/ or can't sharpen the one they have, ect,ect The NPTC scheme has lost credibility- dunno what their going to do about it....
  18. Ecxellent- will be waiting for it, cheers, k
  19. Nice one-am in Essex next week, K
