  1. Chuff me, it's Thunderbird 4! http://www.davidsissonmodels.co.uk/thunderbirds/TB41.jpg Ty:lol:
  2. Hello, How many/much spares do people keep in stock? I tend to keep a spare bar, sprocket and at least 4 chains in stock for every saw. I've starter cord, a couple of handles, silky blades and the disc cutter too has a spare disc. I buy bigger containers of oil to always have a stock. Now all this racks up to over a grand at any one time just sitting there waiting to be used. A grand tied up that is not actually doing anything. That I should buy as I need individual parts and keep no stock. Is this another jolly accounting wheeze from people who know jack about running a business or am I a serial hoarder with my 4 chains for every saw...? Ty
  3. I've just had a week off. Woke Tuesday morning to find I couldn't walk, only crawl. The my vision swimming, I was retching emptiness and had to lie still in bed. The doc was called out, lucky for me my wife came back from Morocco 2 days before or it would have had to crawl to a neighbour and raise the alarm. Turns out I have 'vertigo' brought on by stress, over work, de-hydration, doing without meals PLUS I have naturally very low blood pressure which does not help. Now a week end bed and I'm still a little light headed but I'm out early 'today now' to drag branches and supervise, a little more slowly than before. As I lay in bed I had vision of my dreams and hopes crumbling and this then gave me an almighty anxiety attack which I got over this afternoon. Is this what self employment is all about...? Cripes, I'd swap it all for a warm job in a supermarket aisle on the minimum wage if this is going to become frequent recurrence. Ty
  4. Well, if it's a rotten as it looks, should be a couple of hours with a large spoon... Ty
  5. Caused by mushroom hunters... BBC News - Giant mushroom found in Polish forest Ty:biggrin:

  7. I always take mobiles off our work experience lads. Once, I had a parent complain about this as the lad was too scared to complain himself! Unemployable they are. Ty
  8. Your bang out of order Dogman showing your inability to relate to modern 'Yoof' culture. NEVER get between a 'Yoof' and his Samsung social life...hhh:001_smile: Ty
  9. Like us, who offer more than just tree work and therefore are rarely short of a coin to finance shiny new toys rather scratching around with 10year old chippers and beaten up trannies.
  10. Ha... If the public didn't view my business as 'professional' then we wouldn't be doing as well as we are. Sign written, clean roadside yard, decent web presence, well turned out staff blah blah blah. One thing that tickles me is that several expat tree fellas call themselves 'professional tree surgeons' I imagine to distinguish themselves from the amateur ones I guess.....hhh! I'm a businessman first and a tree man second. Some out there like to hug their trees, I just like to hug the clients cheque. No-one has yet asked me to show my tickets and rarely for a photocopy of my insurance. They take it on trust we are 'professional' and not a bunch of rank amateurs. Having said that, my team and I are all tree enthusiasts who all have a deep rooted interest in all things arboricole. Ty
  11. Hello, Do you have any mates in this game who can come by and guide you in your quote? Don't show weakness in front of the client, that's your price, its a good one and good luck if he can get better tell him. I'm well used to being turned down for jobs and rarely bother getting the 'ump over it, in fact only look to win about 70% of quotes. We put in for a week for a team of 3 felling a line of hornbeams for a housing development at 4950 and got told the winning quote was a grand! I guess these guys where happy to work for the wood and just wanted to cover their hire costs perhaps...? I can't eat wood nor will it pay my social charges but as there is plenty of work sloshing around over here I let these things go. Ty
  12. Morning, Just to point out that the unemployment figures in Spain are very high. Around 33% with certain sectors such as graduates as high as 60% Unless you have something to offer that the Spanish really need I would have thought that finding work would be a real struggle. Regards Ty
  13. Yes, I had 2 drums replaced by G.M who shipped them to France 'tout de suite'. I was well unlucky to get 2 go on me but G.M stood by me and I by them when I upgraded to a Quadchip. Ty
  14. Why does it need a new drum? That should be a for life part surely...? Bearings too, like how many hours do you think you've done already, it looks pretty shiny to me. Belts, well they are just consumable eh... I seemed to got through a lot but there again...I worked it hard. Blades... don't get me started on blades for these things...BLEH! Regards Ty Former CS100 owner
  15. Yet the subject of sex was one of the points raised back in the earliest posts on here that was considered as unsuitable. Zero tolerance, the weaning out of every-one who crosses the boundary is rather sad but we are not at liberty to engage in free speech on here as even off line there is no such thing. We must abide by the rules of the club now or return to being lone workers with 'read only' status. I for one, have not much to add to this forum but a great deal to benefit by it. I'm truly sorry I've posted unwelcome comments before about crusties, pikies and got a head of steam up over illegal working contracts abroad all of which got me in trouble on here and I wished I'd kept my 'mouth' shut over and I'm certainly sorry for it. One thing is for sure, I shall never again share my personal life details with any-one on here as it is information that is often wielded against me later on. I shall never tell people I'm doing well, or badly or ever share my good fortune again for fear of raising jealous hackles. I'll just stick to reading other experiences and trying to think up sage questions about untried knots and fungi that look and taste like 'thingies' Oh good grief, look, I've brought sexual innuendo into it again... Hit me with a life ban won't you...? Ty
  16. If you say 1 thousand things to a thousand people, there will always be a few who take offence. Many in the Arb world are not master wordsmiths with the industry being full of testosterone, dirt and big sweaty men on cizzer who will express themselves in a bawdy and lewd nature from time to time. Aside from that, had I realised this is really a source of income for some-one, I may have tip-toed a little more cautiously myself. I shall make a point of staying clear of anything remotely controversial in future and do as fine gentlemen should do whilst passing the port. Not discuss, sex, salaries, religion or politics. Stick to the world of trees and I think all shall pass well enough.
  17. Oh... I've been away for a week in the mountains of Morocco with limited internet. I logged in to message Le Sanglier and see he is banned. Please spare me trolling through hundreds of threads to find out and tell me what's been going on here? Regards Ty
  18. Hi, It's also here in Brittany, near Josselin. It came into a clients garden in bark chippings from a local sawmill. Stinks like a Moroccan drain...BLERK! Ty
  19. Nice kit there Sanglier, Hope you got a bargain of an expat moving back! Look forward to seeing images of it being used this winter but won't you have to change the tyres first? Ty
  20. Morning, I'm in Morocco for the week of Eid. The wee John Deere is not really there just for tree work, except moving trailers of logs or chips and splitting logs. We have thousands of houses going up every year around Rennes and it's booming here. Lawn sowing is it's main priority after yard work like turning our wood chip pile over (money pile) and we have a few grounds care contracts. Most new properties on developments have much smaller gardens than of old and a larger tractor would be far less flexible. We may add a small pto shredder for hedge jobs to our list of accessories next year but for now, we've enough toys in our yard to be getting on with. Oh, and of course the NEW YARD which needs some work to the buildings. Regards Ty
  21. That's an insult...hhh!
  22. Sanglier is bored and frustrated. His French dream a crumbling ruin and his only outlet other than the bottle is having a pop at his worthy collegues on here...hhh!
  23. I'm at Nantes airport waiting for my flight. I paid about £7k for my Bandit HB20 I turn over pro-rata £350 per day minimum with smaller jobs often closer £480 What I mean is that smaller jobs pay far better per hour. It uses maybe 4.2 litres per hour. A set of teeth costs 80euros and can last from 8 to 24 hours. It turned over it's own cost within 50 hours. Still on original cutter wheel. About to replace pockets for second time. Just done belts after 3 years. It will do anysize stump but hates slopes. You can drive it into the back of a Renault Kangoo van. What's not to like! Ty
  24. As promised, more images. Ty
  25. Misery, This year, I've under priced 3 conifer jobs by 50%. Lucky I have an understanding team. Conjoined stems as thin as a childs arm, nails, wire and mad old biddies wanting them cut off just above head height to use as last minute fence posts when I could have cut the whole thing down in one instead of 6. Serendipity, Well, Friday, I put in a day on a garden of stumps with several pine ones well over 1m. The HB20 struck rot and we was done by midday off to the neighbour where sowed a lawn with the new tractor and stone burier. The client, a retired engineer, had picked up all the large surface stones and really cleaned the site as well as putting down a decent skim of good top soil! We walked away after 4 hours with a days take of 1520euros! Pay's for those conifers... Oh, happy days! Ty
