  1. 2 separate older lady clients have been conned out of almost a grand each in the last couple of weeks by travellers offering to clean the slates with a power washer. These guys target people with cement fibre slates which need to be kept moss free. They charge a lot of money for 'extra' chemical which is in fact just bleach in the original chemical containers. This use of bleach turns the slates white and utterly ruins them reducing their lifespan. They also break a fair number of slates in the process. Same guys also offer to muller trees from an ancient MEWP and then charge hundreds more to get rid of the waste. Do any members of the travelling community actually do a good honest job for a fair wage or are they all to held in contempt and suspicion? Ty
  2. Imagine if that turned up in a London Park. Hamadryad's reaction would be one to film... Ty
  3. Here on the BBC news web site: BBC News - Giant fungus found in China Ty
  4. I AM my staffs bonus! The simple fact they have a job should mean it is THEY who pay homage to me not I to them. I am the great provider, kneel before me and kiss my Meindel's Ty
  5. Not yet finished, the 'terrassier' or groundworks have yet to lay the tarmac. Under the paths white washed gravel there is a plastic honeycomb structure that holds the gravel in place and also means you need less of it.
  6. Introducing, Princess Fatiha of the Royal House of Morocco My wife and I have been married a year this July 17th Although her distant cousin the King couldn't attend it was still a right Royal occasion for close family. Still waiting on the 'carte de sejour' from the prefecture of Rennes. This should give her the right to live and work here. Fatiha is an accountant and has 2 degrees as well as speaking 4 languages.
  7. The automatic gate is a total statement of wealth at approx. 5.5k installed. You could hop over the hedge/fence in a trice. The holes have yet to be blocked.
  8. Closing credits to East Enders roles...
  9. I repeat, only the gate is our work. I don't really care much for this style of garden. It closely resembles those found in the fashionable home magazines. To me, it is cold, unfeeling and very much of the moment. Although it totally fits the architecture. Unlike the timeless ambiance of the English country garden people will be able to pin point this garden to a certain period when it was 'ala mode' I feel it will age with the property and look dated within a decade.
  10. I attached them but once again it has failed...
  11. We have been installing an aluminium sliding motorised gate at this property where another company has been installing the garden. The house is VERY modern and this garden installation reflects the clients desire for low maintenance and modernity. Just a few images for your interest. Regards Ty
  12. I've just got back from a call out. A client with HUGE pops covered in Gui (Mistletoe) Several branches dropped within days of each other, no wind or rain pushing on them. It's been 35c here too. The limbs have twisted a little as they broke, all are heavy and long laden with dense clumps of Gui. Strange thing is, half of each break is clean, almost like a silky cut clean. Then the last 50% is a rip with long twisted fibres. It's the second call out this summer for branches dropping. The other was a very tall and beautifull macrocarpa such as I have never seen before. It is in a semi-wooded area. Single stem, total clean with no dead matter having been thinned by another arborist a while back. All the weight at the end of the branches. 3 have cracked off falling across a right of way. Regards Ty
  13. I thought the name itself was a joke, a play of words. So I googled it and found nothing but horrible looking used machines, all beat up and mouldy. They all look like something you'd buy in a Bognor Regis charity store... But maybe looks are deceiving...
  14. Whenever I drive across the Loire river in Nantes I look down over a vast yard full of enormous rich brown logs. La Rochelle is just down the coast and that too is a gateway for illegal logs. Still, all those lovely French families require their tropical hardwood outdoor furniture and decking so I guess this trade will just keep going...
  15. Yes, sorry, I meant that I chainsaw the stumps as low as possible. The bigger the stump the bigger the gain in time I find. I'm only running a Bandit HB20 not a monster 80hp Thunderbird. It also reduces the clean up time, fewer chips to sweep up. Ty
  16. Hello, I carry a small hand axe to cut off the dirty bark before cutting the stump low as possible. Ty
  17. Hello, I've done a job similar to that. I removed the stonework to gain access and restored it afterwards. Cheaper than messing around with hire and weedy machines. Regards Ty
  18. It's Ramadan...35c here and although I am forbidden to eat not drinking would be the death of me. Tomorrow, I have a nightmare job I under priced (by almost 50%) Lawson fell. Better just get it done and smile. Put it down to experience...BLERK! No beer for me but when I break my fast at 21:50hrs I will be close to heaven...
  19. Like your flat out and can't spare the time... If the number of Expats calling my phone is an indication of how the market is in Normandy then you'll be gathering dust in your tool shed whilst listening to radio 4 'Archers' on long wave...hhh! Ty
  20. Any-one use them? I'm looking for recommendations and advice. Looking to use one behind a 25hp hydro John Deere. Regards Ty
  21. Dean, Is the unpainted metal stainless steel? Also, just what kind of jobs do you bid on when your running an 80hp grinder? Seems an overkill for the average back garden! Ty
  22. Hey, that's my rope bag and capstan!...but what are you doing with them in 2007...? That's just weird! Is this the HG Wells forum...?
  23. I dunno, I once had a poo in a Bandit but that was just because it was owned by a competitor. Mind you, I do have a high fibre diet and so I hope it perhaps it took the edge off the blades. I've used and looked closely at Bandit models. I have seen 10year old models re-sprayed and serviced to look and run as new. Solidly built in in thick steel. But for me, they are a step too far for now (in terms of weight) except for the grinders which are pure aspiration for us. That 80hp posted by Dean gives me dreams beyond all Ken...
  24. Personally, I think they are both underpowered, the colours a bit yesterday and the cutter wheel too small... However, all though they may never get around the back of most clients gardens, they may just be able to force their way through the front wall, exiting the rear via the French doors (taking the frame with them...hhh)
  25. That's why the last half of your hedges are all wonky... Ty
