That looks like a good job, now price it for loppers...hhh! Not many can afford that type of careful work these days sadly. I've only ever done 2 Laurel hedges with loppers, silky and secateurs. They cost 3-4 times more than with cutters. But the results where stunning, like it had never been touched, no ragged ends, no cuts leaves and a lovely natural finish. Ty

Mick, A decent home build web site can be done via WEEBLY or Vistaprint and when you are done you then buy an official domain. Or use a webmaster, they are certainly not exorbitant these days. A bit like Arbs, lot's around all trying to scratch a living! Ty

O.K Mick, I'll take that on board and look at re-writing that phrase. However, if you'll just give me a moment to comment on your site... Dempsey Tree Surgery Colour scheme...BLERK! It obviously has not been re-written since you moved here as it talks about local authority and commercial contracts. You are lacking a business registration number and I assume you are not registered for tva so no need for that then. Of course, without a tva number no 'local authority' or larger business will touch you so you really do need to re-write that part. The hedge cutting page shows a chap using a chainsaw... You use the phrase 're-turfing' when it's not common practice in France outside of football stadiums. There is NO French side to it! Why? when the French outnumber the Brits by hundred of thousands... These are just a few thoughts, positive criticism and do not represent a personal attack so don't go getting the 'ump' with me now. Hey, I upload images etc onto DROPBOX where they are safe. Also I keep copies on a hard disk storage device thingy, safe from vengeful wives... I've just had a butchers at your site, very spangley and dynamic. It's got a personal element to it with a short life story, something I have decided to do away with in case one day I need to sell the company and move on. Interesting how lot's of focus on regulations. I can't see how that would work over here. Brits do seem to have a preoccupation with rules and regs in their home country but not so over here... Rarely am I asked for insurance or tickets or even if I am registered by both French and British. As for Chalaria, no-one gives a damn here! I like the idea of a slide show on the landing page but my web master tells me 'no can do' as the site is optimised for tablets and smaller devices which would be slower to load the page. What's the experience of others on this? Regards

Picking up a 1025r next week:thumbup1: 26hp hydro static:001_cool: Comes with a stone burier, log splitter, 2 buckets (one a grab) and a flail mower all for 26k euros so it had better earn it's keep! It's road legal too so I may go to the shops from time to time and carry it home in the bucket. Ty

Hello, Cut out the old wood with loppers BUT...you may find the smaller stuff just flops down so may need some canes to support it. I normally coppice these every couple of years immediately after flowering. All the answers to everything are in the RHS book of pruning which you can often get in charity shops for a steal. We cut from a Henchman, one to cut, one to rake up and to help move the thing when arms are tired. I'll order another smaller one soon when funds allow. I think they are a little expensive and lack a certain finishing but superbly functional and make a huge difference to productivity and safety. Regards Ty

I do a lot of hedges and don't think they are the domain of either gardeners or tree surgeons. To me they are work and the hedges we do well on are the difficult access or high waste material ones. Hedges too much for a Dix Euros Dave and his saloon car/baggage trailer combo. This hedge in the original post for us is a 90euros job (£70). An hour for 2. And little local jobs are always good payers too. Ty

Here are our 2 main vehicles. We also have a battered 2003 Kangoo into which the HB20 just fits. Soins des Arbres translates as tree care. Although we mainly just cut them down I am doing a bracing job using the cobra system at some chateau near Paris in a couple of weeks.

Everything else is an added extra, chipper+truck, climbers, taller hedges, stumps...etc. In France, we call guys with saloon cars and wee trailers who garden work Ten Euro's Dave's. Ty

Despite my current levels of anxiety I am pushing ahead with projects and ideas. I will address other issues when we are back from holidays. One project I want to implement is for the 3 of us who quote to use the same form for client details. This form would contain client and job details and be kept with a printed copy of the quote and eventual bill. The aim of this is to get us all singing of the same hymn sheet. For me, it is no good just writing stuff in a diary or note book then handing or emailing in to be turned into a quote as there is no central information file containing the many job details not present on a quote. How do you guys do it? Regards
