  1. Have they seen the error of their ways ore are they just up the creak? If all they have is a pile of conifer in their garden your not really going to benefit from their custom. I think it's best to give those jobs and those customers a miss. Only times I have 'helped' them out is when it's been an old dear who has been taken for a ride, then as I say it's been I higher quote as it's usually a longer more horrible job.
  2. Ha yep I've had that quite a few times. Their van has broken and they will be back in a few days, they need some money up front for skips, their mate is coming to clear it up and needs paying in advance etc etc. I've refused to help most times if it was an a hole of a customer or just banged more on top of the original price which is wholly justified when you see the mess they make! You can never stop them or do anything about it.
  3. There is nothing wrong with that type of work imo if the trees still serve a purpose. Let's face it they are probably there for one reason only, and it's far better than no trees at all. I doubt whoever is paying for it would get them lightly trimmed every year or so.
  4. I would say that if you have been having issues over the last 20 years of purchasing and you have used different suppliers then the problem might not be with the suppliers. Are you sure you arent being too fussy, or dodging the quality firewood (more expensive) suppliers? Speak to a supplier and tell them you only want logs of XX size (not ask if they approx that) and that you need an amount that will fill X cm2 when neatly stacked. If the load isnt up to spec then reject it. Simple. I would have thought the best thing to do is put you location up and get one of the suppliers on here to sort you out.
  5. Looks like it has already been covered. Just because there is nothing that can be done about it doesnt mean I cant have a whine. I think its just getting harder and harder to make decent money when you do all the difficult skilled jobs as well, if that makes any sense.

    Ropes

You should advertise that mate:thumbup1: Seriously, Steves knot directory is far better than any book.
  7. Oops, I was supposed to use your quote that Mark replied to "Nonsense, the more idiots, hackers, gardeners with ropes and ladders the better.Lowers the bar, makes the better equipped, more experienced amongst us look like the A Team. They'll always be low rent firms in the business because it's an easy buck at the low end."
  8. I think it all hinges on your market. The market being, people with not a lot of money and a PITA tree to sort out up to the wealthy rich types who think everyone is out to rip them off so there is no way they are being more than the lowest quote available. The less people pulling all the nice jobs out of the industry while driving their cab, putting out fires and in general doing something unrelated to tree work in their 'spare' time the better.
  9. Loads of people do use stock images and tbh I have no idea why. It looks a bit silly if a potential customer has seen the same pic on another web site. I remember a pic of a guy with no PPE one handing a top handle doing the rounds a bit. That whole page is hard reading for sure!
  10. I would throw that leaflet in the bin mate and promote your own tree business.
  11. I cant relate to the OP as fortunately I have never suffered from depression. I have had the odd time of despair when I couldnt handle what was going on at the time but have always been able to sort it. I hope you can work through the problem you are having. I have known a few genuine depressed people and it is a terrible thing, mostly ending in the worst case scenario. Hopefully you are just a blag depressant and you are just a miserable sod that needs to get a grip on life and sort yourself out. BTW I mean that in the best of ways as some people think that is the way a truly depressant person should be spoken too, they cant, they cant snap out of it, shake themselves up or get a kick up the arse.
  12. Actually I think it's mainly small dead sea creatures, although iirc some pesky russian science bods think it had nothing to do with plants and animals and that it was made in the earth from carbon or brought here on asteroids!
  13. Of course, what else would I be doing! Did you know she trained to run her first marathon in 1994?
  14. And the moral of that story is don't sign something you dont understand, especially if its in a foreign language, and you are planning on moving there! I am sure it will look better in the summer. Not todays news but back in 1994..... 11 things you?d forgotten about 1994
  15. Dont dis him yet Steve. Ive spent about the same about of time on my chosen subject but, IMO, if you're going to spend that much time researching something on the internet it better be a four letter word and contain the following letters, ORPN BTW, I dont believe you Vespian.
  16. I remember the peak oil scare. Looks like someone underestimated the number of dinosaurs. They obviously didn't do their research like watching the flintstones etc. What has Trump been up to lately then as I'm not getting any news flashes about him anymore?
  17. Compare the length of a new chain to the length of an old chain. Surely that will tell you if they stretch or not.
  18. Well at least you tried, on both accounts. Although I am fairly sure I pay a lot more for my business water than my domestic. (including the waste water charges from the business side)
  19. Would be interesting to get a definitive answer on it though. Was it just a clip you came across or is there a story to it from the people filming? You could imagine it would take hours for someone to cut a path to rescue them.
  20. Well, ask the Slovakian AT forum branch then.
  21. That must have been well scary! Someone on here must have cleaned that lot up?
  22. Cheers for the info. Scaffold, how big is it then?
  23. Its not like in cartoons. Yes Mark, nobodys mum needs grinding so hold your horses on that one fella. Its interesting to see that in this case someone with no equipment (I would say no idea but that might be disrespectful ) would charge more than your average tree firm when usually it is the other way around. I suppose it must be because this is at the bottom of the pricing scale ie the minimum price range of work, quick easy and of no risk to most bona fide firms.
  24. Whoever the people were that kept prompting him to continue posting even though many other people did not like it at all. It was quite comical it was like being back in school again. The class clown was asked to calm it down a bit as not everyone appreciated his 'humour'. Unfortunately it never got through to him because others were singgering and telling him how great he was and that he should just carry on as normal. I dont remember there being a pitch forked lynch mob just a lot of frustrated members who thought the site was being ruined. If he was my mate I would have told him to respect the site and other members and calm it down, not wind him up and pretend everything was OK. It is quite obvious that he seems to be a nice guy in real life which i dont doubt so yes, it is a shame when someone feels pushed out but please dont blame the other members of AT who did not like the way the site was heading at the time.
  25. Turn the piece over so we can see the bark
