  1. Splitting maul, not one from B&Q though, something like a wooden handled Oregon is decent .
  2. From reading the above text I think this man is totally delusional. So he thinks he's up there with Darwin does he? Badly written, American spellings, poor grammar and to add insult to injury nothing he proposes can be substantiated in any meaningful way. He should stick to fungi and trees.
  3. No marking instructions for past papers = Thats my opinion and I'm sticking to it
  4. When I did the Tech Cert, I asked for model answers and marking instructions for past papers, they didnt have any and said there wasn't any available. Is this the sign of a mickey mouse qualification? Yes, in my opinion.
  5. In all the years I've been doing treework, I've never had to ask for extra money to finish a job, but I wouldn't rule it out, thats just being stupid.
  6. Skyhuck......the man with all the answers, funny how your the only person that thinks that take it easy
  7. Thats all very admirable 'man of principle' BS but only a complete fool would soldier on to break even or make a loss, have the confidence to tell the customer you've made a mistake with time or there were unforseen circumstances that have arisen during the job the price never goes down, not ever. You sweat to get your money in treework, making a little extra profit never hurt anyone especially when the customer was happy with the original quote and is completely satisfied with the work you've done ever noticed how sometimes when you visit a person to give a quote, you are wary or get a bad feeling about the person - wether it be their ability to pay or just simply that they'd be a total nightmare to deal with, thats you
  8. haven't you heard that the words 'tree surgery' and 'discount' should never be used in the same sentence?....but hey, if your inclined to give back that 'built in allowance for when things go wrong' go for it
  9. so....sometimes you get the quote wrong and misjudge the time involved but earlier in the thread you said: How come you'll stick to the price when you've gone over-time on the job, but take money off if you complete the job under-time? be brave skyhuck, ask for more money if you need it, most people will understand especially if they found you through word of mouth, they already know your trustworthy right, why would you try to rip them off?
  10. Have you ever given a discount if the job was done well under time?
  11. rubbish, professionals should be adaptable to a situation, especially where they are going to lose money on a job
  12. Yep, would've done the whole thing very differently myself, but there was some decent footage in the vid nonetheless, always worth a look at how other folk approach a job
  13. Big Pine being dismantled next to church in Hawaii.....begins with stills then video starts at 1.00, check out the near miss at 2.20, some decent shots of big pieces being tagged out at 2.50ish..... 14. the wrong size biners on the Lockjack Sport = instant descent mode wooden handle trapped in large lower biner leaves cam open -
  15. Dean, please tell us you've stopped using that blue biner?
  16. Funny = 'weird' right? Doesnt look much like a Macrocarpa now, more like a Socotra...
  17. Saw them in 1993 at the Glasgow Barrowlands, that was a good gig. Know your enemy is a better tune tho. Killing in the Name reminded me of the old theme tune to grange hill for some reason..... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SlvZF6k5bE]YouTube - Grange Hill Theme Tune[/ame] .
  18. thats the price to fit the new chassis it'll need, then add another £1000 to sort the electrics/gearbox etc and finally add £850 to get it through a MOT. After that be prepared to spend at least £1000 a month to keep it going
  19. Ben, the new Nissan NP300 has a 3 person bench seat on the single-cab version, they also do a tipper version, very good pick-up, 133hp good for towing and decent enough off-road for most things (low box and selectable 4wd). Easily best value for money over all the others. .
  20. remember and post pics of the tree this time next year
  21. In the first 30 seconds of this video - what the hell are those 5 people with clipboards doing following that poor guy round the tree? [ame= ] [/ame]
  22. Here's martyn's 'rent-a-wreck' LDV
