  1. so glad we won the war against the Germans, let's face it though.....a race who accept socks and sandals as a legitimate form of footwear were always gonna be on the losing side
  2. I knew that Steve, didn't want to correct Pat as it would've looked like I was overly concerned with minute details instead of the bigger picture
  3. He's right, usually is on middle eastern affairs. Spends most of his time there - [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9vMCSh6BMQ]George Galloway owns an anti-Syrian propagandist - YouTube[/ame]
  4. ex sas to career politician, he's come along way since his days in the military, just a pity nearly all of it has been downhill.
  5. What's he getting out his lobbying for bombing though? bet there's a lot going on behind the scenes that we'll never know about, Paddy - 'I'll help you guys make the case for bombing and you do this for me, right?' Why would Britain want to get involved in a vicious sectarian civil war anyway? can't they see the pattern? Iraq, Afghanistan now Syria, the trouble just keeps moving around and we keep getting sucked into the violence. By the way - didn't the USA/UK do such a great job in Iraq? this was from Wednesday Baghdad bomb attacks kill 71, wound 201 as cars explode across city - NY Daily News and today Car bombs kill 11 in northern Iraq | Reuters
  6. Glad to see the British parliament reject the case for bombing Syria. Hey Tony, why do liberals like Clegg, Ashdown, Campbell and Williams want war so bad? you'd think they'd be last people wanting to launch cruise missiles at conscripted soldiers and civilians who operate the various military installations which will be targeted. By the way Paddy Ashdown is a total joke, a morally pious, sanctimonious, self serving career politician.....I despise people like him.
  7. Probably because Syria is very close to Iran both politically and geographically. It's also militarily and strategically important for the western allies to get a foothold in Syria to further separate Hezbollah in Lebanon from Iran in a geographical sense and limit Iran's allies in the area. It wont work, the religious and political allegiances in the middle east are very complex. For example, if the US, UK etc launch cruise missile attacks on Syria, Hezbollah will probably fire 1000s of rockets into Israel from Lebanon in retaliation. Iran will probably stay out of it, biding their time, but they'll probably be supplying Hezbollah with arms. If Iran can persuade the muslim world that the US/UK attacking Syria is another example of westerners invading a muslim country yet again, the whole dynamic will shift to muslims vs westerners
  8. If you get the chance try and visit Torridon and Loch Maree then. Epic places.....unless it's cloudy, raining and misty, which it probably will be
  9. the landscaping round the base and raised soil level is killing the tree
  10. Like it Tony, did you know that the actor who portrayed Miyagi was nominated for an Oscar for his role as Mr Miyagi? Not a lot of people know that. Don't believe me? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Morita
  11. You should try and visit Glasgow if your in Scotland, some of the best architecture in Europe. A lot of people bypass Glasgow when they visit Scotland which is a pity as there's a lot to see. Give us shout if you want a quick tour.
  12. Like it Pat reminds me of The Green Mile, we're all John Coffey, Tony is Tom Hanks, the benevolent prison guard [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttsFhPoCslg]Oh yes sir boss like the drink- The Green Mile - YouTube[/ame]
  13. The USA and UK have a war every few years to show off their tomahawk cruise missiles, Syria in just convenient target at this time. It's like a big advert for the multi trillion $$$ US and UK arms industry.
  14. Why are the trees always so small in these comps? someone (probably an American) should build a 700ft Oak (no foliage) with about five or six 100ft+ lateral branches in the middle of the Mojave desert. The ISA could fund it. Similar to what Danny Way and his mates did with the mega ramp - [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhfx-S7lHPc]The DC Video - Danny Way Mega Ramp - YouTube[/ame]
  15. Nice vid Bixler, cheers for posting
  16. Let's say the homeowner moved in 20 years ago knowing the tree had a slight natural growth habit/lean towards the house. That's fine. Now lets think about that tree continually growing/leaning over the house, let's face it, it's a juvenile Redwood as Redwoods go and has a lot of growing yet to do. There will come a point where it'll have to be removed simply because it's unreasonable to expect any sane person to live under a heavily leaning tree regardless of the structural condition.
  17. Forget about the rooting zone for the time being. Looking at the second picture, if you say the lean/growth habit is actually worse than in the pic then it could be time for the tree to be removed. You could apply for consent to remove it, if they refuse then appeal the decision on the basis that it is unreasonable for the homeowner to live with a tree that is growing over the house and will only get larger over time. You could simply argue the perceived level of risk the homeowner has to live with is unreasonable. Any other pics that show the extent of the lean/growth habit over the house? I'm aware the tree has been there a lot longer than the house but there has to come a point where the retention of the tree is no longer viable.
  18. 2/3 m from tree. Not as far out as dripline, probably half way out. Maybe this will encourage the newer shoots nearer the main stem? Used fresh Birch chip with a lot of leaf. Any thoughts?
  19. ben, that phonecall could've been genuine, I read a story that during world war 1 the allies bred a wingless carrier pigeon in the Loughborough area. The idea was that the pigeons would walk over no man's land to the German trenches with messages for the Germans like, 'do you want to surrender now?' That one stuck up the tree is probably a direct descendant of one of the original wingless Loughborough pigeons.
  20. What does the client want to do? remove the tree?
  21. I just put some woodchip down beneath the tree yesterday where the grass has been killed off, looks a lot better now and along with the root aeration will hopefully help the rooting zone and tree long term. Be interesting to see how the tree does over the next few years.
  22. Another quality timelapse vid, nice one, cheers for posting.
  23. Ben, Zipline.....looked at that as a possibility before we started, ruled it out for various reasons. Deano polyprop, it has it uses and that is one of them. Although it was a special green polyprop with 3500 kg MBS Pete, that was the idea, sometimes the simplest solutions are overlooked.
  24. interesting vid Dan, that hanging piece was weird, suppose you had a good reason for it. Good job on getting the tree down safely.
