  1. Evening all... I was hoping perhaps there may be a member of arbtalk reading this who can help inform me as to a typical progression rate for this fungus...If you have experience of this on common Beech I would be very pleased of your input.

  3. Macrocarpa...google it.
  4. It certainly looks like it might be ...I am interested to see it so gloss black...something I thought might be a attributable to age....but the " wobbly " stacked appearance is familiar to me...which is different to fomes fomentarius which tends to be more evenly stacked ime...( ? ) BTW....Phellinus igniarius goes by the common name amongst others of " White trunk rot " The crown will appear healthy to all intents and purposes but dont be mislead by this...it is no indication as to the true condition of the wood!!!!
  5. rfs cert Arb....good basic knowledge base & nptc units to boot....there is increasingly pressure on folk to use qualified staff...you need to think about what this means to you.....bonne chance!!

  8. Worthwhile point I think and here are more reasons to move with the times if you are involved in treework....adopt as progressive attitude as possible towards your craft but not only that, to your techniques....(?) Default BS3998:2008 Draft Section 7 - General Hands up who like paperwork? 7.2 Instructions prior to carrying out tree work. ...The contractor should prepare a risk assessment and method statement (including quality of work), and ensure there is a clear written specification of the work. You've got TPO consent on the condition that you follow BS3998:2008... wheres your method statement then? Reasonable? Bye bye to natural crotch rigging... 7.10 Damage caused to trees. ...Where a tree, or part of a tree, is used as an anchor or to redirect a load, precautions should be taken to avoid damaging it (see Annex J). J.1 General Using a tree as an anchor point applies pressure that can cause damage to the cambium. There are three applications where a tree may be required as an anchor point: a) to assist with felling a tree in chosen direction; b) pulling a tree (or stump) out by its roots; c) when using rigging systems. Better buy more rigging gear to comply with the new draft 3998?

  14. What...you never heard of "windshield survey method"...? I would concur I hasten to add, that it was inadequately assessed....the scar, upper hole and lowest cavity are so obviously linked , it should be enough to make your head ache

  23. The pulley block was slappin' pretty good up there I thought...and his flipline was around the working end....just observations.......
  24. I cant see that you would really need to acquire a great deal of rigging kit to comply with this simple legislation....Of course you can buy as much as you want.
  25. Petzl Vertex has an inadequate degree of adjustment...they are for folk with big heads....!!!
