  1. DdRT....doubled rope technique
  2. The uppermost branch would surely need taking out...its heavy as hell looking at the pics....Who says its a graft? I cant see that. Think it would benefit from lateral lightening also probably..in for a penny an' all that...after cutting it, to have it fail elsewhere would be an excercise in futility.... I cant see the point in the brace any longer...remove it ( unless it holds up the dead stem ) cos my next comment is keep the habitat stem! I wouldnt mulch cos it'll look like crap and I am liking the already wild(ish) flower thing going on but there. It is in the interests of tree health as it may inform to future cases...maybe try and look at it like that??? Cant see that leaving it is gonna be any better ....who knows what you'll find out??>>>>
  3. Have similar situation I suspect...I understand some cultivars maybe desirable ( given they are not affected) What do you know about this if anything Pete?
  4. If U download the PDF and read on...you will learn perhaps from this painful accident....

  6. It is their newest and latest offering...I am a fan of the butterfly....we'll just have to see if its all that innit!!
  7. Do that!!

It wont indeed but the system needs backing up imo...esp as blaze ( 11.1mm ) is a skinny rope and some of the ascenders and/or other clamp devices are manu'd to fairly "easy" tolerances shall we say!! There is no provision on those shown in the illustration for a small karabiner so a rope system would be the go...... You would have to be pretty unlucky to have both clamps fail simultaeneously anyway but there>>>>
  9. Seems like you might aswell leave well alone then....
  10. Not rubber mate....nylon. ( Thor No' 7 )
  11. It seems to be a wide if not populated species this mistletoe..its rife in Australia also...theres a thread around here somewhere re mistletoe and the yanks......
  12. Dont compromise....either yourself or the owner...if the tree is such that the path must be moved for safety reasons..seek to do so before you all end up with.............Good luck and a good choice in keeping it IMO....
  13. Hi Patchwork....CODIT (compartmentalisation of decay in trees ) a system identified and explained by Alex Shigo....well worth reading the basics frankly...Lime will as Steve says rot relatively soon as hardwoods go but generalisations are only ever really that!!! Unions of regrowth to the damaged stem are highly likely to be poor with this species. ( ie weak )

    Oh yeah!
  15. Hold your horses...15% of the tree seems a mighty slim portion to be thinking about burning it down....dont overeact would be my view. remove dead dying diseased wood and coronet etc etc as above....all good advice .....You should try and encourage bats...but dont be too dissappointed!!

    Erm Yeh

Thats cos' its by the time you pulled the chain on the last engine to get it going, the one you first started needs refuelling already..... Its just a bit of nonsense.....!!
  17. Treespydr is an arborist/climber from the usa who appears on the Treebuzz web based forum.... He is known to go "off " on one now and again as it pertains to the mathematical principles and calculation dynamics of tree work scenarios...It can be a little worrying sometimes I think but mostly its just funny!!!!
  18. £188.00 incl VAT
  19. Got myself booked into the ellison clinic of hammer techno ...will no doubt have my eyes opened to a whole lot!

  21. That particular rope has been in use for a long time. There may well be updated or newer products available but beal will still be around a while yet I suspect. Good product IMO.
  22. At assessment, you have the option of getting the assessor to work as your groundie....
  23. I am liking the specsavers ad where chappy fells in the wood as power goes down in the immediate...at the closing frames we see that 4 eyes has dropped the carrier poles and put the wires on the floor...ha ha ha:laugh:
  24. This is an important issue when using mechanical devices in treework IMO. Again, if you use an ascender or pair thereof to access the tree as I do, you want to be sure that this climbing aid can operate properly. If you must ascend thru' alot of ivy for example....use a rope and knot or in the very least back it up with a fail to safe system as leaves getting in the cams between the rope will cause the thing to slip....potentially dangerous.
  25. Get a look at the ISA book ( Donzelli & Lilly) called The Art and Science of Practical Rigging. Most excellent. It will work as a ref for you during the course and has alot you can use afterwards aswell IMO. http://www.treesource.co.uk/acatalog/ I think you may find a copy here.Other places also.
