    Badgers

I see on the news this morning that a trial cull started last night in glostershire, and now theres convoys of animal rights protesters driving around country roads and most probably trespassing on people's land trying to distrupt the cull, if it wasn't plastered all over the news and papers these badger huggers would be none the wiser and wouldn't have a clue what was going on in the countryside.
  13. im good thanks Danny, yes I need a 4x4 for towing the caravan, don't think the mrs would be too happy going caravanning in the transit, hope your keeping busy.
  14. Just had my 50th birthday and between age and old rugby injuries i'm starting to think about slowing down a bit and maybe go more into firewood, don't get me wrong I still enjoy the job but in my head i'm 30 but my body tells me otherwise, I know firewood would be seasonal but ive got plenty of contacts for other work if things went a bit slack, anyway the question I want to ask you guys is what do you think would be the best set up for firewood, transit tipper or 4x4 and trailer, i'll be changing my 4x4 shortly anyway, so the choice I would have to make is do I sell my van and chipper or just sell the chipper and keep the van for firewood, what set up do you guys use for firewood delivery.
  15. just got back from the welsh national caravan rally in Monmouth, went mainly for the tug of war competition, couldn't really have a drink until Saturday night because the team had to weigh in on sat morning, (640kg class) we came second.

  17. that still doesn't tell us why its against the law, i'm not being funny woody but I would genuinely like to know why its an offence, cos if it is the case arbtalk is going to go quiet cos half of us will be locked up:001_smile:
  18. spoke to a builder the other day who has a system that is linked to his iphone, he told me he was in spain the other week on holiday and checked on the camera on the yard, he couldn't make out why one of the lorries was reversing back and forth, he phoned his foreman and it turned out there was a problem with the brakes on it, but they were shocked when he knew what was going on in the yard when he was on holiday.

    Holidays!

I think he's lucky to have someone who works a 12 hr shift for £65, I think your better off too paying for your own tickets, that way there'll be no sour grapes if you told him to stick his job, keep your options open and when you get the chance speak to other tree company's and tell them your avalible, good luck.
  20. without sounding a bit thick, when re sharpening with a grinding wheel, as the wheel wears doesn't the concave edge get tighter? my local dealer wants £18 plus vat a set to sharpen, I got a mate who does mine their ground flat but seem to work fine.
  21. just finished work and been up to see the old guy, asked him if he had any family and he said no, none at all, I explained to him that if anybody comes knocking his door that he is not to hand over any money to anyone, because other than his hedge there is nothing else to do in his garden, I also explained to him that he should never mention sums of money like the £800 he mentioned to me this morning, he thanked me for my concern and said he'd try and be more careful, knocked on both of his neighbours to keep an eye on him but no answer, im calling back on Monday to do his hedge for free.
  22. Had a phone call this morning at 6.40 from an old gentleman who I cut hedges for, (I don't think he realised it was so early) I've been slightly concerned about him before when he's been slightly confused, I only charge him £40 to do his hedges, but this morning he kept telling me on the phone that he had the £800 ready to pay me, the thought of some low life happening to call with him and ripping him off is worrying me, ive tried ringing him back to tell him not to leave any body in or do work for him, but I don't think his hearing aid is on, I am working today so i I will have to call with him this evening to ask him if he's got any relitives I could contact,
  23. bought a Renault about a year ago for £3000 with quicke loader, just been offered £3500 for it.
  24. i had gun safety drummed into me from a young age from my old man, I now do the membership interviews for our wildfowling club, which is mainly gun safety, couldn't believe ax men the other night when that idiot Shelby looks down the barrel of his pistol to see if it was loaded
