  1. All these directories are just leeches on the industry. Same with rated people and all the others.. Google allows people to leave reviews, and it's also the way that most people find trades, plus it's free..
  2. I try not to book stuff in too, it's just easier. Plus most of our commercial clients ring up wanting an immediate start, and they take priority.. Nothing worse than cancelling a weeks worth of domestics.
  3. I wouldn't bother, in that cc of saw I think the dolly is superior...
  4. Do the chassis flex that much? I have noticed that the Jap 4x4's tend to have shallower chassis rails, like 4-6" the landies look more like a transit type being about 8". Supposedly the new defender if it ever arrives is having an ally chassis.... it will probably cost £40k though:001_rolleyes:
  5. They were on 'you and yours' R4 last week, sounds crap to me.....
  6. Performance is great, but if it keeps letting you down, whats the point. Better to have a saw that starts and runs every time than a faster one that doesn't run at all. Our 261 was a dog too. The dolly 6100 is quite a nice saw, but not as fast as the 560, its been reliable though.
  7. If you're serious about winning contract work then you need to be good at this. If you aren't good at it then I can see the sense in employing someone to do it for you. There are specialists out there who will help you get CHAS, ISO etc, and some of the contract climbers on here have helped other firms get their AAAC. It stinks a bit as a system but that's how it is.
  8. I love the new Navara, if I had to replace the Landy tomorrow that would most likely be my choice.. Mind you, I have never seen a defender do this....
  9. Wish I'd got to meet him...
  10. Bump. Got most of it down now, there's at least 50 ton, two loads...
  11. Fascinating memoir from WW2. He was captured, escaped, captured again by the SS, then liberated..... 6 parts, not very long, half an hour well spent. https://ellenvgregory.com/2014/04/25/harrys-wwii-memoir-capture-and-the-cattle-truck/
  12. Its easier to work it out by weight, 1 ton of softwood @ around 20% moisture will yield around 4 cube of chip, at 50% moisture (fresh felled) it will yield around 2-2.5 cube. Weigh a couple of packs and that will give you a good idea of the volume. In terms of the space that it takes up its not that different IME.

    Rabaud kit?

I think the technique would be almost cut through the log onto rings , crane it onto the processor, then either split it as it is or zip through the straps and then split.. By the looks of it you could produce near a ton of logs with each stroke of the ram.

    Rabaud kit?

    About £25k I think...
  15. Any good? I really like the look of this 80 ton splitter, it has a conveyor option too... Anyone seen / used one? Log splitter for tractor: HORIZONTAL F80 - Rabaud
  16. I did 80 hours last week. I don't mind the odd long day but a week of them drags you down.. I don't love it that much.
  17. I should have mentioned that we have the dolly version too, good saws these. Out cut a 460 or a 372....
  18. It's nice with a 24" bar, it would probably handle a 28". I wouldn't go less than 20" it's briefly entertaining in an 18 but ultimately pointless.
  19. Ordered a new bar for it last night, I'll give it a whirl next week and let you know how it goes, it was a good saw before so it will be interesting to see how it performs. 357 it great btw..
  20. Been asked the question by the client and don't actually have a definitive answer. We normally just do it, excersising common sense when close to other trees, shallow grinding if necessary.. Any one aware of any official position?
  21. Do you not have a local recycling centre, there are a few up here that will take green waste for £20 a ton, and they take chip for free. We use them a fair bit, saves a trip back to the yard if you're full by lunchtime.
  22. Round here there have been several big wind farm projects which have involved clear fell of semi mature spruce.. This must have had an effect locally at least, flooding the market with pulp and biomass.. Maybe similar things are happening nationally.
  23. 25 ton plus, mostly processor size mixed quality hardwood no willow or pop, about 5 pine sticks in amongst it. Call Tom 07801 538 717
  24. A few more..
  25. Working up north today.
