  1. No. it just made the petzl one seem cheap LOL.
  2. Alpinetrek it's only 20%off now.... By the way if you look in their website there was a head torch for £700! No joke...
  3. I paid £60 for it, it's light years ahead of the cheaper ones, I have had loads. It's worth a hundred if it lasts, it seems well built.
  4. It's coming up to Christmas, I'm not really a gadget fan however it's the time of year when gadgets are bought so let's hear about the good ones. I just bought a new head torch, it's a must in Scotland at this time of year because it's dark all the time. It's a Petzl NAO. Before you google it and see the horrific price and say **** that, I got it cheap, 40% off. However now that I have seen how good it is I'd happily pay full price. Good things are.. it's mega bright: I have had cars with worse headlights. It charges off a USB, no buying batteries, although you can fit two AA's in an emergency. It has a brain, it reacts to the light levels to save battery, you look down at your feet and it dims just the right amount to see where you are going, look up and it's like the front of a world rally car.. If I hadn't bought it for myself I would have liked it as a Christmas present.. Post your favourite gadgets..
  5. I like the story of the Australian kids who crept up to the camera van and unscrewed the number plate then fixed it onto their car and went past flat out several times.
  6. I think you'll find its gearing down, the engine will run at around 2500rpm, the flywheel will normally chip at about 1000, if you know what the flywheel speed will be you can just go directly on with the pto assuming its around 1000 rpm. The TP's run the flywheel at 1000 so they can be run direct off the PTO.
  7. Don't do it!! Get the tajfun version instead. The dealer is sooooo much better. There's not much to go wrong with the winch but even so why take the chance of terrible service? The tajfun will be near enough the same price and the dealer is excellent. I wouldn't buy another uniforest unless they get a new importer.
  8. I have a load i could sell you, I bought them for a garden centre who were buying them, but then they went elsewhere (10p a net cheaper) so I have a load left. I have no intention of using them...
  9. Just don't bother Matty, go with Kilworths if you want a small one, they know alpines and will have an alpine adapter kit off the shelf, they are great to deal with. And for the big one I'd seriously look at the oehler, same design type as the uniforest/krpan/tajfun but german made..
  10. I have the uniforest 5.5 tonner on the front of the valtra. The wiring loom which has a circuit board blew, so I went to get a new one under warranty, they wanted me to send the whole winch down on a pallet at my expense! and in order for me to get the part I must buy a new one and send the old one back at which point they would refund if they deemed the part to be at fault. That kind of service just isn't worth having. Kilworths are miles better. I bodged a repair myself and carried on like that. Nothing wrong with the uniformest winches but the service is awful. The guy at Forest Machine Services seems really switched on, and a local gut to me has the Oehler, he really rates it and he'd doing estate work and a lot of big trees...
  11. Oehler. Forest machine services just down the road from you Matty. If not that then Tajfun. Uniforest is ok but the dealer is crap. I think the Oehler is a really nice winch and you can't beat buying local. I bought my uniforest at the app because the Oehler was dearer, wish I had just spent a few more quid. You can't beat a bit of German engineering.. As for features radio remote and a hydraulic unwinder are a must. Forest machine services Ltd – Hexham, Northumberland Seilwinden
  12. You can come round my yard and load up if you want. We are about an hour from Hawick. 07801 538 717
  13. I have an n series, it's a good tractor, but it feels huge compared to the 6400 it replaced, the 6400 turns on a sixpence.
  14. Greenmech 1928 Road tow. ArbTrader Arborists Classifieds I have dropped the price on this now. Its a 2009 machine, currently working every day, available as of this week.
  15. Just realised you're local, if you want a look at my BCS let me know...
  16. I have a posch processor and a posch 30 ton billet splitter that I would hire out, ring me for info, I'm in e Lothian too..
  17. BCS are good, I'm on my second one.
  18. Nice! There's some drawbar weight on that heizohack Mike.
  19. I just bought one so I hope its good. I was very impressed with the demo.
  20. Kleber are about as good as you can get without going full forestry spec. Not the cheapest but pretty tough and a good ride too.

    Negative Rigging

Lovely vid that Reg. Nicely shot.
  23. We've been cooking on a reyburn for 10 years now, it's been great. With the long fla,e from wood you can get oven and hotplate temperatures in excess of most other ovens. I have had over 300o out of ours, makes great pizza. I can't comment on the others as I haven't used them.. On thing worth mentioning is that the Rayburn stays in overnight no problem, I have heard that some others don't.
  24. Could be thuja plicata but it looks like lawsons to me too.
  25. Life's too short. Get on with running your own business better and forget about it. There will always be Cowboys out there.
