    Van drivers.

County's right, I had the points on my liscence to proove it.
  2. Not mine, mine are 0.8 cube. normal builders are 0.5.
  3. TBH they are quite lumpy when filled so they don't fit together that well anyway, I stacked them 2 high as thats as high as the tractor would reach.
  4. The straps are fine, the weak point is the vents themselves as thats where they're thinnest.
  5. I have used them this year, I filled them with stuff that was about 6m to a year old and it has now been in the bags for 6 months or so. Firstly they do work: no mould and logs are dry. secondly they are degrading in the sunlight, the ones at the edge split easily, so I'd be wary about using them again and again. unless you keep them under cover.. which may restrict airflow.

The kit is marked up, I tend to do it myself before hand, no point paying for him to do it. Roughly what do you think a fair price is Bob?
  7. Do you think you could make a cone shaped one? about 7' high, its for growing beans and sweet peas up. If not I might be interested in some of the 2 dimensional ones if they were quite tall.
  8. Very nice mate.... you change your kit more than I change my pants.

How much is relatively inexpensive ? BTW I paid £400 last time for 2 complete climbing kits with 2 ropes each and a fair few toys and a fairly comprehensive lowering kit. Is that OTT? Whats the cheapest you've had? (sorry for the slight derail)
  10. Yes It will bend. I really like your idea though, is it for long billets? There is a nylon block available which is impregnated with oil, It would probably resist a fair amount of compression, you could mount it directly under the blade.
  11. Ha Ha, that reminds me of a job we did the other day, Andrew was climbing and took of his sweater and chucked it down.. onto a phone line, took ages to retreive.

I'll be streight with you, I normally do have loler but it is currently lapsed. will be getting it done before crimbo. On a general point though, we dont use crappy kit and I don't mind throwing stuff out if I think its past it. I have seen people climbing on stuff that I wouldn't use as a dog lead, but not for me.
  13. Nice one mate, those jobs are always fun. Did you get that little twig that ziplines down a wire just where its a pain to reach?
  14. I still use one of them!!! although I junked the 13hp engine and put an 18Hp vtwin on it instead:thumbup::thumbup: Its a beast.
  15. So true, I don't know why people look offended when you won't give them your wood for free!!
  16. I heard that one too, oops:thumbup:
  17. I hope the:thumbup1: doesn't mean you're fighting his corner:thumbdown:
  18. Very true this, Befor i bought my winch I looked at a new Tajfun for 950+vat, then one came up on ebay, same winch, 2 years old; so I thought I'd have a go... it went for over a grand!!!
  19. They'll do the tonnage ok, the speed (flow) will be very slow, ok for home use though.

    Rigging a spar

Good stuff as usual, I like the slo-mo bits, whats the editing package that you're using?
  21. Nice work Monkey, nice pics too.
  22. SWB's right, running a business is not everyones cup of tea, there's loads of stress involved, and yes the thought of not being able to pay wages is the worst as it affects other people directly. The profit margins are way lower than you think; its easy to look at your boss charging 500-700 for a days work and think he must be minted, trust me he's not. I make a point of letting staff know how much things cost, so they take more care with them and also so they appreciate the real running costs of the buseiness.
  23. This could be the most pointless thread ever, but.... I was wondering that since i started using my new yard in feb my chip pile is about 1/3 the size of the log pile. This seems like a lot of chip compared to previous years, could be lack of takedowns? or perhaps more people keeping wood? Whats your ratio?
  24. I noticed that when I started in 2000 ther was 1.5 pages of tree work in the YP. now there's five. However despite that and the recession I'm really busy, I have averaged £500 a day for the last 5 months which is good for me, I think there are a lot of newcomers out there fighting for work but us established guys with long lists of happy clients will always come out on top. I loose the odd job here and there, but so what there's plenty more work out there. Looked at a job this morning which I got: £1800, got a £500 one yesterday... can't complain. And you can't blame people for trying; If you took away everything that I have tonight, I'd be back out tomorrow looking for a second hand chainsaw so I could start all over again.
  25. Left a cambuum saver up a nightmare Ivy covered tree yesterday with throwline in for reinstalation this morning. It broke. I have always used bog standard line and although I find it works ok I do occasionaly get breakages, I was wondering if it is worth paying four times as much for lines like "zingit".
