I gave up after the first few, just stepcut the rest. On the Biology front monkey, it was more a case of what didn't it have.. There was merip at tha base, and Pleurotus and Pholiota on the limbs as well as Oudemansiella and some others that I didn't recognise. not forgetting the Nectria...

This was todays job, I wasn't particularly worried about it as it was barely dead, however it turned out to be a bit of an arse twicher, the upper limbs were majorly brittle like ceramic as you get sometimes with soft rots; still hard to the touch, or spikes but no elasticity at all. Good fun once I got into it, took 5 hours to get it all down (with half an hour for lunch)

He needs the receipts because he wants to claim your wage against tax. You don't say how much you were paid, if its below minimum wage he is in trouble. You could always tell him this. It is also illegal for him to employ you as self employed if you do not work for anyone else as well. You may have been exploited, but you have gained some experience which will help you get your foot in the door with your next employer.

Nice job Steve, 5 of the 12 we took down recently were that size, I quite like working on them actually, was there any stringyness left in the timber? ( appart from the felling cut at the end) Got a big dead beech to do on friday, similar size I think.

cover the cable in waste oil, it will slip over itself easier on the drum, its messy to handle but you should be wearing gloves anyway:001_smile:

The oral was a nightmare because I missed that lecture and was totally stumped by 2 of the questions. and yes it was an artists studio. The real problem was finding time to answer all the questions. Dont waste ages on the 5837 survey,it was only worth 15 marks where as the last question was worth 40. the tree condition report was also tight on time with 7 trees to look at as well as a p+d ident and oral.

Took mine today, its really tough, definately passed the ident but its anybodys guess how i did on the other three papers. The woodland oral was a nightmare. good luck to everyone else.

Price by the metre, over 15 m I'd charge 45-75 per metre depending on the type of fence and height etc, you can't really go wrong then. Sometimes it seems dear but I tell myself ( and clients ) that I'm putting in a quality fence which I am happy to guarentee for 5 years. You get people charging low rates for crappy panel fencing and 3x3 posts which are only dug in a foot, I explain that thats not what we do and charge a decent rate. I dont do many though:001_tongue:

I prefer the streight edged ones as I often do little directional felling cuts when reducing if the limbs are a little too large to hand hold.

The cyanide is released quickly as far as I know, just mulch it with everything else.

Well done mate, thats one of the reasons why we pulled out of landscaping. You're competing with so many cowboys... and I never enjoyed it. Really nice work there.

Pulling a loop out to get your groundy to pull up a big saw or winch cable is one thing I like about it , another is putting a sling between your harness and the HC for long ascents. Like at the start of this vid. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DlMeIHejZk]YouTube - big firs 0003[/ame]

Go on a price comparison site and get the best deal you can on a personal loan, you can still put it through the business and claim back tax on the interest. I bought my first one on a credit card, 0% interest deal, i transfered the ballance a couple of times and never paid any interest for 2.5 years. I dont know if there are as many deals like that out there now though.

Has anyone tried this?..... The tibloc Petzl Charlet - Crampons, helmets & harnesses - UK • Tiso.com I saw one in the shop the other day and seeing its simple one piece construction (it must cost buttons to cast) I imagined it would be a cheap alternative to a pantin. It works by using the crab itself to pinch the rope against the grips. It ought to cost a fiver.....but sadly it doesn't. Maybe Jonsie could do better??

I have one similar to this mounted on the landy, very corrosion resistant as they come with rubber gromits and a sprung loaded cap for when not in use.
