  1. I have a 385 which the 390 replaced I think, its been a great saw, reliable and powerful just get the extra bumper spikes which mount on the bar nuts.

Ask for the bar to be dressed each time you get it sharpened, and I'd bet that your first chain was a semi-chisel which will hold its edge longer but cut slightly slower and your new chains have been full chisel which cuts quicker when sharp but once dulled hardly cuts at all.
  3. I don't have a problem with this, they're noty claiming to be anything that they're not. If its a direct copy its probably pretty good, bet its heavy though.
  4. Some really nice trees there, what sort of area do they cover? Just pockets or a large forest?
  5. I wonder how many years he got. Maybe it was a woman... they can be a bit touchy sometimes.....
  6. Me and another guy did 25000 whips once, that was 15 years ago, they're getting big now:001_smile: Here's some of them now: It's hard work, but any work this winter may be a good thing:001_smile:
  7. me to, although I wonder how many of these ebay "stihls" are being sold by people who bought them out of the back of a van only to realise its a pile of ****.
  8. Imo the double and the half double fishermans should be part of cs38.
  9. just to be clear I am talking about the new shape navara. Oh and I forgot to mention, Its thirsty, not much over 20mpg when towing.
  10. Dont get me wrong they're nice to drive, my Dad runs 2 of them, they do a lot of towing and both have had various warranty work done, rear axles, clutches, airbags among others. They are really popular round here but for hard work I think they're a bit soft. And they do seem popular with the "Hairdresser" type. Sorry:blushing:
  11. I've had one (navara double cab) while I was waiting for my landy to get fixed, I don't rate em TBH. The power is impressive (176 BHP) however the extra tourque of the landy (only 122BHP) makes the landy just as good for towing. The load capacity of the rear axle is very poor despite it being a pickup, while towing its easy to have the bonnet up in the air. The leaf springs give a nasty ride too with an empty trailer, though maybe you get that with the l200 anyway. I think the navara is a bit of a hairdressers car TBH, it loks the part but is built too light for real work.
  12. That looks heavy. Why all the criss cross cuts on the stump?
  13. Been a beautiful day here, clear blue sky and not a breath of wind.
  14. Could be your feet Tim, I have haix boots and Bashlin alloys and find them OK, mine have the leather straps though.
  15. Some are definately more resistant than others: my dad had 2 in his garden, we cut one down (dead) when I was still at school, the other is still there 17 years later, its about 40 foot and multistemmed, prob 1.2M diameter above ground.
  16. Its not bad, you need something on the back, lifts about half a ton, the rear mount ones make the whole thing very long and tie up the back of the tractor. Its fine for what I need, a half ton log is actually quite big.
  17. As I often say to my wife when I'm driving: "nearly and actually are two very different things":001_tt2:
  18. Just google "alpine tractor" there's a few different makes, mines a BCS, there's also ferrari, pasquali, AGT and antonio cerraro. And an american one ...Holder.
  19. Insurance isn't really there for fences and garden ornaments, its for people. aA claim could be something as simple as someone tripping over a little twig and could easily cost 100K if they are badly injured. If I break a fence I just fix it there and then, doesn't happen often, my insurance is there to protect ME from getting sued not to look after garden gnomes etc.
  20. Forget those girly wee things Jojam, you need one like mine....monster monster:001_tt2: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVtiN3tOBpM]YouTube - Little Tractor[/ame]
  21. Nice one Joe, did you lower the main stem too?
  22. I bought a pair of goretex overtrousers in Yate's of malton the other day, they are really good, worked in the pissing rain all day last week and was bone dry at the end, not too sweaty too. They were £19:thumbup: And you can take em off when it stops.
  23. WD is ok to get your krab moving if its sticking but it is a petrocemical and so could attack certain plastics such as your ropes hitch cord etc. Best avoid or clean off crab once its working again. stick the ropeguide in a pillow case in the washing machine:001_smile:
  24. Nice one, got a similar job coming up myself for a private client. Is that a 4201 you've got?
  25. I did a big one a few years ago, it was quite like ash as I remember, not particularly scary in any way. We logged it all but I noticed afterwards that it has a really attractive pale timber with a nice grain so it might be worth milling some if you can.
