  1. I never have a problem parking outside greggs or any other purveyor of breaktime cholesterol. Thats what bus stops are for.
  2. Fair play Stevie, however I wouldn't choose a vehicle based on the weather conditions for 2-3 weeks of the year. BTW my yard isn't large or flat, but I find hitching my trailer on and off is a doddle. Getting out in the snow is a pita though. I'm going to have to drag it out with the tractor tomorrow.
  3. any tipper conversion on a l2oo / hilux/ranger/navara is going to have a poor load carrying capacity, however keep the chip box small and there's no reason why it wouldnt work. he'd be better just buying a regular pickup and getting a tipping trailer.

    4x4?

When I decided to replace my old landy I was determined to buy jap. I had been there and goth the T shirt re landys and I decided I wanted something comfortable and reliable. One by one I had to eliminate all the other jap makes as they had such crap towing weights. In the end I came back to tha landy and TBH I haven't regretted it one bit. Many of the anoying things that the old landy had, such as its noisy draughty leaky cab are not there on the new one so its not so bad to drive. Having said that if a landcruiser commercial such as the one pictured was available in the uk for LR money I'd probably have bought it. On the reliability front I can only compare my landy with other vehicles that I "know" My landy has had: A fuel common rail releif valve replaced, a new vacuum pump, and an egr valve. My dad runs a few 4x4's (bought new) for salesman and fitters they are worked hard towing like my landy, his experiences have been as follows Nissan terrano 2.7 deisel: ate 2 gearboxes 2X nissan navaras (new shape) ; both had rear axles and other transmission issues, 1 had a clutch before it was 2 years old. Mitsubishi shogun: engine seized at 60000 miles. £7k repair I think in the UK market the us trucks aren't sold here, and the decent Toyota isn't either, the landy is the only real option for me. If that Iveco thing wasn't so expensive i'd have one in a heartbeat.
  5. I have tried splicing this using a 16 strand eye splice, (from the samson site) I have found it impossible to pass the tapered end past the section which still contains the core. I am using a wire fid. Is there another splice that I can use with this rope?
  6. If limbs break then its the owner of the tree who is responsible. I have little sympathy however for people who buy houses only to complain about the neighbours trees shortly after. They were there when you bought it! There's far too many people who don't want to take responsibility for anything these days, buying a house is a very big decision, taking the time to look around the place and spot potential problems like this should be something everyone should do. You only have yourself to blame if the neighbours tree comes into leaf and blocks all your light.
  7. Thanks for the replies, no negatives, which is good.
  8. I might see if I can get a test drive this weekend:001_smile:

    Unimog

I've never owned a mog, but I've driven a few. I'd say that comparing the costs of running a mog with a landy is like comparing the costs of running a lawnmower with a car. An expensive bill for the landy might be £800 for a gearbox or £2k for an engine. you could easily spend £20 000 on the same for a mog. Plus red diesel isn't any where near as cheap as it was a few years ago, and your mog will drink a lot of it. Having said that I have spent tha last week wishing I had one.
  10. Not as a work truck! Thinking of getting of one of these as a family car, boring I know but practical. Clarkson raved about it. Jeremy Clarkson Skoda Octavia Scout 1.8 TSI review | Driving - Times Online But has anyone got one? I'd love an owners oppinion.
  11. Exposing a Karibiner to the cold may make it more brittle, hovever as soon as its warmed up again it will be just as good as it was before. No need to retire it. If cold permanently dammaged aluminium alloy airliners would fall from the sky the frrst time thay went to high altitude. I don't know what the manufacturers minimum temperature will be, but I'll bet I give in before it gets that cold.
  12. I'd still check the engine earth strap Darren, its a common cause of poor starting, the cold weakens the battery and it becomes apparent. Air in the fuel isn't good but I can't think why that would only happen when its cold.
  13. Nice work, are you based on Mull?
  14. another one..
  15. Its pretty windy here now, we have had a load of hail and powder which is drifting badly. I probably won't get much done for the rest of the week.
  16. I haven't noticed the diff lock making me slide, however I drive with the diff locked as soon as the road is white, regardless of wether I need it. This is because it helps you stop so much better especially if you are towing. If you don't beleive me try 2 test emergency stops, one locked and one normal, the front wheels will lock much easier without the diff locked. I have even used this method on a dry motorway, you suddenly get someone brake hard in front of you while you're towing a heavy load. Just rtam in the diff lock and break hard and you will definately stop quicker.
  17. Thats been my experience with branded tyres as opposed to remoulds. The difference in ride quality is the best thing. I The pirelli scorpions that I had before are essentially a copy of the old BFG muds, they lasted 51k. The kumhos that I have now are excellent, I prefer a unidirectional tread, especially on the snow.
  18. I will get you some, we will hopefully get the job to take the rest of it down. the Kd was hidden in an included bark union which was full of aerial roots. probably about 8feet up.
  19. A few pics after we had a go at clearing up.
  20. There's a golf GTI and a 1 week old bmw under this! Luckily there was no one underneath at the time, happened at lunch time yesterday.
  21. Certainly do...got 9" now:001_smile: Just had thunder and lightening too.
  22. My lab (1/4 springer) will jump fences, however I either get him to jump at the gate or I lay my leg along the barbed wire and he jumps over that.
  23. Snowing hard here, already got 6".
  24. He means swearing.. even if you mix up the letters.. its still offensive to some. Either don't do it or spell it properly and let the swear filter blot it out.
  25. This will probaqbly be the first year that I run out before the winter is over, I have sold over 30 bulk bags in the last 3 weeks, and because 2008 was a slow year in terms of take downs I have less wood to sell.
