  1. I have 3 numbers one edinburgh one east lothian and one borders, I have found that people will really go for a local number and so if i advertise in edinburgh with a borders number i'll get less work. So I have one for each area. Works for me.

    sharpening

If you can sharpen well by hand your chain shouldn't be unbalanced??
  3. Go and look at the oaks at the Hirsel if you want to see a lot of good timber. Nice pics mate.
  4. I got 8quid a ton for mine. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
  5. In that case put a winch on the butt and pull it down, It doesn't look that big from the pics, it should pull out ok with a tirfor.
  6. Have you not got a winch of any kind? As has been said, the safest way is to sever the butt and winch the thing till it hits the deck. Why climb if you don't need to? Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
  7. I just bought a 261, and am wishing I got a smaller saw years ago, I have a 13" bar on it and have been really impressed with it. It is pretty revvy and cuts fast, I have used a 346 a few times and liked it too although this new stihl is very good and I'd say equally fast compared to an unmodded husky. I have always liked the feel and balance of the husky though so I'd say go for whichever you like the feel of best, just don't discount the stihl on speed because its a quick saw. 8. Freddie King, probably the greatest blues guitarist ever.... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJU81OBkFPk]YouTube - Freddie 'The Texas Cannonball' King - Going Down[/ame] This tune in particular is great playing loud whilst driving.
  9. Great, I have lost private work to these guys, using our money to buy nice kit and then take work from us at stupidly cheap rates. I wish they would stick to their own trees.
  10. I used to like that sort of stuff, but that was 20 years ago!!!! I am soooo old. I haddn't really heard of Rollins then, he was supporting the chilis. I bought his album after tho. I used to like all sorts of that stuff like helmet and prong lol
  11. I saw Henry Rollins live at the barrowlands in 91, he didn't get any abuse or anything thrown at him, despite part of his set being him just rocking backwards and forwards looking mean. I wouldn't have messed with him.
  12. I may have work if you are coming over to the east side, yard is 30mile south east of edinburgh.
  13. Nice pics, where abouts are you based?
  14. Nice one Jamie, Pm me if you are out of work, I am well busy at the moment and have a lot of irons in the fire too, i might have work if you are interested. You want to get on the windmills mate, very good money I hear.
  15. just download a free file converter like leawo:001_smile:
  16. I won't be back till 6 and am baby sitting as my wife is out, so another time may be better, any evening this week or next...
  17. I have quite a lot of burr elm in my yard if you are interested, its getting quite old though. You are welcome to come and have a look, I am at co-path.
  18. Congratulations, a lovely name too, is she your first?
  19. Got to agree with Stevie, I eliminate all the can you just stuff at the quoting stage: I ask them if there is anything else at all that they might want doing, explaining that as we will already be there it would be more cost effective to get it done then rather than a separate future visit. This usually works and also brings in more work, and, because I ask this before I give my price there is no awkward "how much do I charge to take out that buddleia" moment.
  20. I'd buy a tractor and processor setup with a big horisontal splitter and try and process the timber as close to where it falls as possible. I would leave all the felling and any extraction to a professional company, if you did it in large batches it shouldn't be too expensive and you'd have plenty of firewood seasoning which would give you a head start. You could then concentrate on felling the easy stuff and processing the firewood. Big trees and big winches on steep ground require serious experience, no amount of training courses will give you this.
  21. I have a full time vacancy based in the borders / edinburgh, what sort of money are you after?
  22. There are plenty of hitched that can be used like a prussic without the need for a pulley, some can even be tended one handed. I have a Howard hitch with a knut finish on one of my ropes, it works really well. I have posted it on here before. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
  23. Those aren't cut an paste errors, they're oil leaks.
