  1. will get something together for you Mike. I am self employed so don't have one but will send a history etc of work.
  2. Morning, The TO in question is an approachable guy who normally is very reasonable, will speak to the client and get another meeting with him, as minch said the consultancy route plus cost of dismantling together would be an OUCH moment for the client. I will suggest a replant of a slow grower ie. oak, yew. will keep posted and thanks Gmann for the POV from a tree officer. Dave
  3. Very useful info thaks gmann, pics are due to old phone lens, time for an upgrade. Didn't have my good camera with me. What do you mean when you say SULE?
  4. Cracking job oppurtunity, I would love to apply but booked up thro Oct, Nov. might be interested in the Jan,Feb slots if not filled.
  5. Targets below the tree are a greenhouse and a garage/annexe
  6. Hi All, Got a call to come and look at this lovely mature sycamore, the client lives in a conservation area and applied themselves to remove the tree. The village they live in is renowned for busy bodies and so the tree officer was called in who quickly slapped a TPO on the tree etc etc. They were then only granted a 15% reduction by the council which on the species seems to me a bit pointless, fair enough if on an oak or beech. Anyway, there usual guy has disappeared after quoting for the work so they got in touch for a quote for said reduction of 15%. Upon inspection I found the below old FB's and also the bark is coming off quite badly, can you ID the fungi, is it sooty bark disease? so I have suggested that we take advice which is why I am posting this and if necessary remove under DDD tree or at the very least appeal for a 30% reduction. They had this reduced 2 years ago, so from their point of view it is an expense for them to maintain especially as only such a small amount of crown reduction is granted. The crown looks healthy enough although there is substantial deadwood in there. As always your views are welcomed, many thanks in advance.
  7. All this was Alder from a job I did for a client last year. All came from old windbreaks, was a cracking job and has left him and his family with a good stack. I did offer to purchase loads off him but he wanted it all. It is excellent firewood and as I think Mr Ed said it was used to make gunpowder in the old days, if you come across old woods near powder mills chances are there will be loads of Alder.
  8. Really sorry to hear your awful news, thank god they didn't have knives! as I'm sure they sound like the types that would use them. Hope you feel physically better soon, the anger will take some time to pass though I imagine. Take a long weekend off and have a get away with your family to chill out and move forward.
  9. Hi SWB, thanks for the friend request was a nice surprise to wake up and see this morning. I like your posts and school of thought, one of the most constructive on here I think. Anyway I Dave and speak to you soon.

  10. Good thinking Tommy.
  11. Many thanks, for all input from all points of view in what turned out to be a more general topic than an employment one, any how today I have had a good discussion from one guy locally and another who advertises this kind of service is keen too. I will also take Gibbons suggestion into account as well against the overall cost. FTR I do not advertise in any way a removal service and any quote to a client always states removal of waste by a licensed carrier, they are informed of this on the site visit. I forgot who offered 450 but if all else fails you may just get a call!! Hasta luego:shakehands:
  12. Rupe, I'm sorry but you must have had such bad experiences in the past that you judge everything very badly. Isn't it time you got over that, if you take everything to heart then so be it, if you take posts out of there context, then so be it, if you feel hard done, by then so be it. If others work differently to you or me , then so be it. If you don't think out of the box, then so be it. On your insurance moan ( totally off thread as per usual for you) if when I am subbing for someone and I turn up on site and feel that the job is not doable or more equipment would be required to prevent any mishaps and effect my insurance then simply I would have a chat first with the contactor and discuss this and if not sorted then I would quite happily say Thanks for the offer but i'm not taking the chance with my safety as well as the safety of others and the clients possesions, this hasn't arisen but when I was on the cards many jobs I walked away from only for an idiot to go back and do them. TBH I'm bored reading your do it my way or no way comments and unjustified interpretation of threads. I am far from a slave driver and always pay people a good rate with thanks and also take them for a couple of beers to. You seem to me a very miserable person, there is a window cleaning company in this area with a boss that seems like you, he gets very upset too if someone is doing the same job as him and has been known to harass people "off his turf" he to doesn't seem to understand the free market thing and if people want to work then they will regardless of their opinion.
  13. You do make for good discussion I agree on that. It's not a case of getting a company in to do what I can't, I could if I so desired go and purchase a vehicle suitable for carrying chips to dispose of, however as I'm sure you would look at your business and assess whether such a purchase is necessary which in my case it isn't so use what's out there to suit your business needs and thats that.
  14. That is another option to think of, thank-you.
  15. As I like their service to, I had the need for a skip 7 times in the last year so I don't lose sleep on loss of sale of chip etc. after all renting a yard for this little use would make me a loss, I think, so my point from the start is the same............
  16. "I actually don't care what other people get up to." Hmmmmmmm:rofl:
  17. Check the hire companies out for prices, I can get one for £40 a day but I think the average price is about £60 for the machine you have in mind.
  18. I think the problem is people can't comprehend there are many ways to do things and being in a free market society allows us to seek out and use any service out there. To all you that have a problem with a skip can you explain what is your problem????? After all a transit with a box on the back is but a skip on wheels??? Majority of my work is for people that have acres of land so there is absolutley no need to remove waste as I said at the beginning, I also promote to them to keep their waste as yes surprise surprise they have large gardens, paths, and fireplaces etc to get rid of arisings. I am quite happy using skips and roro's and will continue to do so, less work and away next day, just works out more costly for the client not me.
  19. Rupe, As I understand it the dumping of your waste at your yard is illegal unless it is a licensed waste site. I have had this with the EA and woodchip is classed as waste so needs to go to a proper waste site. Also to burn at your yard you need to stipulate this on your carriers license and the restrictions are silly. So maybe it could be you that is not doing things correct and undercutting peeps by effectively flytipping!!
  20. Thank you Andy, the day rate i would expect from someone who is set up with the van would include thier labour on site as they would act as crew with me, a price per load, Milage allowance of 50p per mile, i would expect the first 40 miles of travel to be included in the day rate. The reason I ask for PLI and a Carriers license is I only work with the proper paperwork in place and expect the same for any subbie work. BTW I sub to other people to and can supply all the proper insurances and tickets as well as 4x4 pick up.
  21. Yes, I am doing so at the moment as well and getting all the timber for far less.
  22. SWB as always good comment from a great mind.
  23. Rupe you do ride a high horse, all i'm after is someone to work for a day that has a truck and would like the work if that is not you then don 't waste your skin typing. It is not about under cutting and if your feelings are hurt then sorry. A simple request for a simple task, didn't realise that people are so touchy. I do have facilities for removing waste when needed from site and it is called a skip, if you can't get your head round that Rupe that is your problem. My request is genuine and your reply is totally like a baby throwing their rattle out of the pram.
  24. woodchip and timber generally all waste from a dismantle of tree. 90% of the time i convince client to lose on site or burn. I use skips when it needs to go and chip straight into them, as a transit for me is not a necessity I would rather be able to give a lower price and also give someone some work too.
  25. Very occasionally the need arises for a boxed transit or equivalent and person on site, so the request is anyone based in kent with this and also must have carriers license and PLI. PM with your required day rate based on 8 hours per day on site and removal of waste per load.
