  1. Nice one Mick, Keep this thread posted when you get an update.
  2. Just wondered how you would stand not supplying them with full ppe ( boots incl) and they had an accident? Think you open yourself up for claim?? Be careful with that one to.
  3. Some great constructive replies, the thing initially that bugged me was when calling around most people were like " depends how much kit mate, marked up etc etc" When you tell them yes it's all marked, clean and ready for you to look at so not to waste more of yours and their time they still couldn't give a price. About 60 was the nearest i got to a price, that sounds like a builder turning up and saying ummmm gonna cost that is!! Found a loler centre that tests all equipment in sittingbourne @ £8:50 per item or £50 for a kit. They mostly do mewps etc, liked their commitment to price so off to them next week. Cheers Dave.
  4. Meoooooooooooooow .
  5. BTW they have a go ape at Bedgebury which is a bloody good laugh. It's like an assault course but up in the trees.
  6. Nice one Mark! I'm down in Teynham. Keep us posted on this thread. Off out now, see you later.
  7. Try Trust insurance, i'm paying £550 for £5m PL. I take it you are doing it online and this is why the profession doesn't come up in the drop down box. Call them and they sort it all out rather quickly. Dave
  8. Hi all, Been phoning around a few people to see prices of testing the kit. Just wondering how much you guys are paying for a test. The price ranges from 60/100 pounds which I think is bloody excessive for a half hour check of my ropes etc. I mean why such a variance in price. I told them all exactly what the kit comprises of ie. rope, harness, karrabiners, prusiks. I mean an MOT for my truck is less!!! I think as this is such a needed thing and as regulated as we are that the industry should set a price for testing as is for an MOT.... Most of the assesors couldn't even give a fixed price!!! is that all about. I think 40 is reasonable, what do you guys reckon???? Dave
  9. It's all to do with what side of the river (Medway) you are from.If you are from the south side eg canterbury area then you are a Man of Kent and from the north side ie tonbridge rochester etc then you are a Kentish Yeoman. Have you ever noticed pub names in these areas?? The North/South divide you might say:reddy: When you thinking Mark? Dave
  10. Hi James, Don't know if you've seen in the employment section jobs in Kendal. The vacancy is with nomad tree services and they look like quite an interesting set up. Dave
  11. I'm up for that. If bedgebury are a no go then I know of somewhere to go with lots of old trees in a open setting as well as woodland. Near Canterbury and a bloody good traditional pub nearby too. Kentish Yeomen welcome too!!! Dave.
  12. Came across this, just goes to prove that the yanks like everthing bigger!!http://www.videovat.com/videos/1023/chainsaw-v8.aspx
  13. Ideal site for wildlife in trees along the river, check for evidence in and around the location of trees. Best to survey each one before felling or disturbing habitats. Pair of waders may come in handy and pack some spare dry clothes in case!!
  14. Old pillow case and a mild detergent in the washing machine i find works best. However the weight of the wet rope can put stress on the bearings in machine when spinning, so take it to the local Launderette, or use a works machine if you have them provided!! Just don't tumble dry it!!!
  15. Seen this advert for 3xarborists and 3xgroundsmen. http://www.forestryjournal.co.uk/appointments.htm#nts Hope this helps anyone out there that needs it. Dave
  16. Very true
  17. The most disgusting beer in spain!!
  18. Not so, we are all in the EU. The French may think you need special permission.
  19. how about trying a career development loan? you can borrow the money and don't start paying back until a month or so after completion. Also BTCV used to offer free courses as part of a nvq in countryside course. Dave.
  20. The Fb's look old and past best for immediate id, I think it could be Grifola frondosa. The crown looks healthy although best to asses in full leaf, the problem probably started when said housing development was done. A new path has been laid in proximity to the tree and one would guess all ground nearby was disturbed thus damaging the roots. Whatever works need to be done then send bill to developers!!! The problem is underground and not in the above ground part of the oak says I. Get a root survey/ condition done on tree and go from there. A lovely oak tree however. Be a shame to lose it or reshape it. Dave
  21. Hi Phil, I was in contact with Down to Earth a couple of months ago, they say that they no longer use subbies/ freelancers. But were happy to fully employ. Not looking for direct employment as I find more job security being self run. Were you subbing for them? Dave
  22. I advertize in a few and for value you can't beat it. £25 a year!! for a 1\6 page ad. Normally to get in them I pick one up from a client and contact the editor of the mag this will get the ball rolling. Stick to the rural parishes as this seems to generate more replies.

  24. Hi Gavin, If you're looking for utility arb work then you will need UA1 & 2 as minimum before going out " clearing lines" both very easy units, it's the leccy firms that require this for h&s blah blah. Contact your local network supplier i.e EDF, E-ON, Southern electric etc etc. Ask for vegetation management and enquire who the local contract holder is. Good luck. Dave
  25. I'm interested. Can you supply accom? I'm willing to come up for the work. give me a call 07817191055 and discuss day rate etc. Dave
