  1. Well done Nod Great Idea. Unfortunatley i wont see you there as im on me hols but i,ll catch up with you all at the APF i suppose.
  2. Precisely why i got rid of my tv 6 months ago the corperations have turned everyone into mindless Eastenders lovin, Corrie hugging robots. what a complete load of scripted tosh. Probably got his dad too write it for him. I know i do.
  3. They look more like a forestry boot to me. Any one used them for climbing Beech yet seems like they would rip through young bark no worries.
  4. Just reading "High Climbers and Timber Fallers By JB. That has got some good yarns in it and nice pics. other then that i,m halfway through "The art of Hapiness by the Dali Lama. just read "Blaze" by Steven King and if you like another easy Steven King book "tales from a buick 8" is good.
  5. Quote MasterBlaster "God save the Ream!":proud::proud:
  6. no holes no damage. All the trees had nice upswept branches so when they hit the deck they cushion the whole tree and cause no damage. Only thing was a few bark skids on the road, after a day of traffic they are long gone.
  7. Yep afraid there was just too much goddamn barbed wire. All the trees grew along an old fence line and i would have spent the 8 alloted days cutting out barbed wire and not felling Plus i wasnt exactly thinking about timber values on this job more getting the road open again. You could just about see Calais:wave:
  8. The only trees we had to climb were two that are near to the building in the first picture. Only to put a pulling line into them as typically the only trees near to a building had a great back lean on them. Everything else was straight into the road:icon14:
  9. heres some more various pictures
  10. 1 The chipper nice 12" 2 Pretty hefty winch.
  11. Thought I would Share some pics of a job that we have been carrying out over the past couple of weeks. We had to fell about 34 poplars all with Clearwing Borer damage All the trees were on the roadside and having lost branches and then finally one tree into the road at rush hour the owners gave the go ahead. The pops were planted with Limes so at the moment the impact of them all coming down is quite big, but in a short time the limes are going to make the roadside look a whole lot nicer. We had a road closure and all the trees were felled into the road all the trunks and brushwood was dragged and chipped back into the wood. 1. Clearwing Borer damage at base. 2. Tree that fell at rush hour 3. Tree on Highway
  12. Yep i agree with bundle 2. I uesd them for a bit but kept breaking them. They were quite good for clipping your o2o on. Have they done a beefier one?
  13. Good stuff tom d and quickthorn. sounds like not a bad deal at the moment . I had a lengthy phone chat with the accountant today and it all seems like its gonna go ahead. lets see what happens.
  14. Nice vid Reg. Very cool use with winching the chipper. How close was that piece to the shed? looks like you've got a good groundie on the line.
  15. Just going Vat registered and would be interested to hear peoples views on the flat rate scheme, I take it everyone would be on 9%. Anyone got any horror stories or good news about Vat. I'm still a bit in the dark about this one so any views or opinions would be most welcome.
  16. Sorrry Bish took a while to get back to the computer. From what i can make out it seems that after the grubs hatch out, in the process of finding food they munch their way through the xylem and phloem. In effect ring barking the tree or cutting off the supply to the roots So dead top or dead roots. We have got some more to fell so i'll let you know what we find.
  17. Yep were going on the friday
  18. Tree menders has been done they are a company in Northants. Personally i'm not to fond of gimicky names its better to come across a bit more professional and i think that can start with a good name. Town and Country tree surgeons seems to be the pikies favorite round these parts.
  19. Very sad news... Thoughts go out to his family.
  20. www.forestresearch.gov.uk/pdf/FR0102pests.pdf/$FILE/FR0102pests.pdf Sounds like Hornet Clearwing moth check out the link above youll need to scroll down a bit. Loads of pops have it round here cleared one yesterday and heres some we had to fell earlier in the year ,one tree was already blown over just had no structural roots left.
  21. Mattyf Those limes wouldnt be in godmanchester by any chance would they?
  22. I think ol' Dickie Branson said something like " be nice to people on the way up, cause you never know who you'll need on the way down". Business is Business, but you may well need to sub yourself to a few local firms in your formative years.Best not to piss off the locals. what goes around comes around. Just think of it as projecting good karma.
  23. OK dokey 1 Transit weighs 2400kg unladen thats with all the kit in the boxes. Got to go pretty careful with filling it. we got a tipping trailer on its way to go behind th hi lux. The box is big to catch chip (i got fed up with blowing chip off the green hi lux) 2. The Hi Lux Had a 7 Inch lift and 35 inch tyres and still managed to handle the weight ok it sat down at the back but no worries other wise.
