  1. You'll find that it's the same with a lot of other insurers aswell.
  2. If you want an instant online quote for PL and EL insurance look at http://www.simplybusiness.co.uk - tree surgeons policies come under "garden maintenance including tree felling". You can also buy the policy online with your credit/debit card.
  3. When my old Cabstar weighed in at 4.7 tons on the weigh bridge I realised that I was loading it to that sort of weight quite often! I reckon a lot of you guys would be amazed how overloaded your trucks are sometimes. It's worth going on a weigh bridge when you're loaded up just out of curiosity.
  4. I remember when I went to pick up some hardcore for my yard with the first Cabstar I owned. Gross weight is supposed to be 3400kg. It was 2100kg when empty, by the time they loaded me up and I went back on the bridge it was weighing in at 4700kg! Don't know what would've happened if I'd got pulled! The thing is it still handled fine - I think that's why we're always overloading our trucks, because they're capable of carrying much more than their legal capacity.
  5. Yeah, that's how they do it in Cornwall aswell.
  6. One of my past trainees got failed for that. You have to hold the handles correctly.
  7. The councils in Cornwall stopped having an approved contractors list some time ago, don't know if it's the same else where?
  8. Haven't got a pic of my truck, but here's one off of the net which is just about identical to mine - even same colour.
  9. Agreed. You should always have a 4x4 in standby for those out of the way jobs, can save hours of work.
  10. I'm with you on this one Max. Making a success of your business should be more important than being chummy with your competition.
  11. Sounds good. I got the new crewcab tipper Cabstar a couple of months ago, I can highly recommend it - tons of storage:crazy:
  12. If you can get that much subbing I'd forget running your own company - I would!
  13. So in other words you haven't got enough work of your own.
  14. I think you'll find that it was treemotion that started with the insults. It was him that called me a cowboy - not the other way around:heeeelllllooooo:
  15. I'm afraid you're wrong there. Unless your subbies are working on their own and earning more money out of the job than you are then they would be classed as employees for insurance purposes - so you would need EL.
  16. Cowboy? you're the one with one crappy little chipper and no staff:wave:
  17. After running your own company for 9 years I'm surprised you've got time to work for anyone else, I'd never be able to fit it into my schedule - to busy with my own jobs.
  18. They're not supposed to be off road trucks! If that's what you want you'd go for a Landy 130 crew cab tipper - not an LDV!
  19. One of his requirements is tool storage - can't get much worse than a Cabstar for that!
  20. Don't forget that buying a chipper will mean you pay bugger all income tax for a year - even if you buy it on credit.
  21. Problem is you're earning money for another company instead of your own and your good work is seen as the good work of the company that you're subbing to.
  22. Spot on. They do assume that you are qualified. They should make it clearer though, so they don't go confusing people called treemotion:heeeelllllooooo:
  23. How do you know what work other people end up doing and wether they're qualified or not?
