  1. I'm hardly in the minority - quite the opposite. How many members are there on here? How many of those members post pic's of themselves? Not many. Why would I want a complete stranger on the internet to know my identity?
  2. must be pretty close to you if you can smell it - you alone at the moment??
  3. Bet you're a right nosey neighbour aren't you Skyhuck:bird:
  4. There's a good reason to not post your website address!
  5. I'm afraid I won't be skyhuck, I have given out to much personal info on here about myself that I never would of if I wasn't anonymous.
  6. don't recall saying this! I said that I think coronet cuts look shite and that most of my clients would p*ss themselves laughing at the very suggestion.
  7. It's amazing what you can do when there's something of value at stake:icon14:
  8. I've got a website but people just tend to go there for reference, as I list my web address in all my printed ads. Think I've only had 2 or 3 jobs that have come directly from the net, i.e. a google search throwing up my website.
  9. I know someone that cut the inside of his forearm pretty badly with his 200t when he was around 70' up. He called for help and eventually the fire brigade turned up. When he heard one of them say "we'll cut you free and get you down in no time" he managed to 'self rescue' for fear of losing his brand new climbing line.
  10. I agree, it's the idiot selling it that's at fault. If Porsche mention that their latest model is capable of 175mph is it their fault if people then break the speed limit??
  11. Sorry Skyhuck, I must have been half asleep when I wrote the post that listed all of my clients:icon14:
  12. I think my point is pretty obvious. If you get, for example, a credit card offer from Barclaycard in the post you know it's genuine. If you get a flyer from some pikie shoved through your letter box....well, we all know about them!
  13. :confused:like you would know. I can't stand posts based on guess-work.
  14. LOL, bet you wish you'd thought of that Deer man:laugh:
  15. Anyway, my point is there's plenty of publications you can advertise in without paying in advance - giving you the opportunity to earn from the ad before paying for it.
  16. I have taken out an £800 ad in the Thomson directory this year and have got until 31st July to pay. Yellow Pages always give you a month after printing to pay.
  17. I think coronet cuts look terrible. I know one thing for sure - the majority of my customers wouldn't pay me if I started doing them. Actually, I think most of my customers would think I was having a laugh and get someone else in if I even suggested it.
  18. have you just come home from the pub by any chance bob?
  19. That's pretty unusual, no large publication would ask this of you. I can see that some small scale local paper or newsletter might want the money in advance though. With a directory, like the yellow pages, you never have to pay up-front.
  20. Last time I went to work with braces on my colleagues started making remarks like 'squeal like a pig, boy'. Suffice to say, I'm now a belt man.
  21. I've got a big ad in our local weekly paper, costs a fair bit but I get enquiries from it most days. The thing to remember is you don't pay until the end of the month so even if you haven't got a pot to p*ss in you don't have to worry about handing over a penny until your ad has been in 4 issues, in which time you probably got £1-2k worth of work from it. Same with yellow pages, you don't have to pay until quite some time after it was printed.
  22. I wouldn't even think about stump grinding without your chainsaw ticket, you'll soon get p*ssed off grinding stumps that have been left 2' high when one cut with a chainsaw could save you a lot of time.
  23. I know for a fact that none of the tree firms in my area own a stump grinder, they all just hire one in when needed.
  24. Yeah, I suppose if you've got absolutely no work then anything is worth a go. But imo flyers should always be a last resort, and always secondary to conventional advertising. If you've got decent advertisments in the local press or yellow pages I can't see how you'd have the time to go out posting flyers; like anna said, when you're not out working there's all the maintenance, paper work and quoting to do.
