  1. Lol treemotion like were all going to tell the world about our security arrangements.
  2. MEWPs, please we are Climbers not Nurses.
  3. Thanks for all your replys guys. Will compile with the rest of our reasearch to try and get some better instructions produced. Nice to hear you all singing from the same branch. Like most of the sensible folk unless i need limb control from where im cutting i use a Hobbs block. The new Mk11 is supposed to be an improvement on the last one. GRS is great but does not have the sturdy proven reliability of this great piece of kit. Ask people in the know these arb salemen would sell there own grandmothers for a few quid. Most have little in the way of real arb experience to back it up!!!
  4. Rocking the apple cart a little personally i think Blackrock climbing trousers are much better and come in black!!!
  5. Think you right be right Fiscus Still proberbly in safer hands now
  6. Self tend an urban myth unless you have 50m of rope below you or a groundy tending your line!! Not sure what cord i use its red black and yellow Marlow...... Fill in the blanks i need to order some. Works well though not failed me yet. DFL at each end even whiped the ends to make it neat and stop the knot from ever slipping.
  7. Have been asked get feedback on peoples understanding of these devices, and if they came with the correct user instructions.
  8. Only way to learn Jamie. Hope that was of some help. Have seen some remarkable cutting speeds achived by tiny saws when the chains are worked properly
  9. No probs i didnt buy one still have the 460 mmmmm
  10. Afternoon all Well if your all going to win any woodcutting comps then here is my opinion such as it is. File gaurds and the like are really only to get you started they will put an edge on a chain but not sharpen it. As everyone mentioned start with your smallest tooth although if your any good they will all be equal. Chrome damage to the cutter must be filed past to maintain an edge, any damage to the plating will cause the tooth to blunt or chip. Always use a round file one size less than the people who dont sharpen chains advise. Remember that you will file one side harder than the other, so compensate on your weaker side by half a stroke. As you stroke the file through twist it round as you push pulling upwards. This will create a razor edge with minimal hooking of the cutter. Depth gauges for grounds saws should be set so the saw pulls againts you in the cut. Good size chips should be ejected. Will try to get a close up of a well sharpened chain. Oh and dont have them sharpened for you heating the cutter with a grind wheel will make the cutter brittle and impossible to resharpen by hand. I am thinking of running workshops in kent for professional wood cutting on a Sat in kent. All free just come down and polish up your skills
  11. Stihl for me although they should stop the bloody emmision controls. 441 is the worst saw they have come up with to date.
  12. Never had a prob with 020 or 200 like the sound of this carb kit though. Never to old to learn something new!!!! Assume for my well spent £25 i will notice some kind of improvment?
  13. Worked for one particular company. Even if you were not connected to the Rail side you still underwent random testing!!! Not the job for me. Agree time and a place for all things HSE clearly states you cannot use a chainsaw whilst under the influence of Drink or Drugs.
  14. Have done a bit of this. Not really practised in the uk much. Seeds are taken from the heathiest straight well shaped trees and stored/germinated to continue good genetic viability within species. Climbings real hard going as no marks or scars should be left on specimens and often Forest trees are as you know tall and lacking in lower branches.
  15. Paint the ends with pvc ideally a controlled environment reducing humidity levels slowly is best. Talk to a man called Rob Dyer in Hamp seems to have his head screwed on!!
  16. Any climber unable to tie a prussic loop should get out of the tree. Jonsie dont pander too them if one fails and you tied it!!!!! Does not bear thinking of.
  17. Myerscough for me good course and college too. Is over the internet. Had a great thought that if i got a degree after all this time folk may sit up and listen Hahahahahaha
  18. Cutting over his head i assume saw and limb fell down across his neck. At least quick not great sinario for an arial rescue though!!
  19. Nice looking take down chaps... Good show. Hobbs or Portawrap??
  20. Steve by complete chance dude all looks a bit better than the last forum some interesting folk on line to.. Lets give our industry a voice that all can hear....
  21. Can tell your all climbers and not wood cutters. Without a felling bar life in the woods is seriously hindered. As for split level it is the best way to get over a leaning trees taught on cs31. Husky cusion was a small pad with a connection to the exaust for felling leaners, never really caught on due to pressures required to fell trees. Have found various modifications to this cut that I belive are more efficient but only you can tell me if im right!!
  22. Have been using this same system for a while after talking to Sherill Trees, think its called the frog works really well. Saves time and most importantly is far more ergonomically efficient. Oh happy days
