  1. Not having a go Hama. I for one am probably one of the most laid back Arbs you'll meet (I think) Nearly all the Arbs I have met have not had egos, far from it. The ones I have met have had passion, passion for either trees or earning an honest living or both. But none of them have had a "look at me I'm a tree surgeon" ego . I have met one or two that I can honestly say have trouble fitting their helmets on their big heads, but they turn out to be plonkers that are crap at the job anyway, they have come into it for the wrong reasons
  2. Local rag yesterday, three shootings in 24 hours. What a wonderful place we live in and we want to celebrate the new year in that enviroment ?? I'll sit at home thanks
  3. Mammut, featherweight and waterproof, excellent Boots I got these http://www.ellis-brigham.com/cgi-bin/psProdDet.cgi?prod_code_in=220103
  4. I find that a little bit insulting really Lee... I think you should apologise forthwith to the Americans
  5. The only thing an Elder is to me is a provider of early winter food for my pheasants and my friend the robin and wren down at the yard. Other than that they take up valuable space
  6. Oh dear, you must be frequenting the wrong bars then Quite a sweeping statement that one
  7. Did they section you afterwards
  8. You could be right Graham, Elves are very active this time of year, Gnomes will be less active with the fish not running as they do in summer. Good pointer, I;ll remember that
  9. Whats the dilema Tim, it's an obvious choice, employ all three methods, they're obviously all very efficient and speedy ways to produce logs. You could always sacrifice speed for safety and employ a more up to date slower but safer method
  10. I think it may be a weak lightning strike if that makes sense, which travelled down a broader section of the stem, killing off the cambium layer and leaving a structural weakness in the stem fibres following its track. Either that or a Gnome could have pee'd on the root, gnome pee is very acidic and it will have tried to compartment that section off, you can see the healing of the cambium layer in one of the pics
  11. There are student on here and people starting out, you should makes things clear
  12. It's a serious question. Could the torsional effects have been cause by a sudden felling of surrounding trees, therefore exposing a relatively spindly tree to the torsional effects of the wind. It hadn't grown with flutes for no reason
  13. Why don't we have to back up the swivel eye on the lockjack ? The figure of eight I have is a really meaty one, you could hang a truck off it
  14. Yes but why Why did it have a fluted trunk
  15. It'll have to be backed up Drew, then we'll have to back up the backup and just in case we will backup the backup of the backup of the uniscender.. Then the anchor point will snap and it will have all been for nothing
  16. The nose sprocket requires lubrication. You may get away without seizing the nosebar whilst the oil works it's way through but you will damage the bearings or reduce the life of them. Always give a new guide bar sprocket a squirt of oil or grease through the hole if it has one, before fitting and starting
  17. You should've give the nose sprocket a good oiling or greasing before fitting, on a new bar it takes a while for the oil to work it's way to the sprocket bearing
  18. Gloves and leather sleeve ?? Both hands on Weapon in this one Kev
  19. Not to a lot of people but there are plenty that have been stung with unseasoned wood and if you are selling crap the word will soon go round and repeat busines will be lacking the year after
  20. I'd better write to the SAS and let them know the regs have changed
  21. Why do you have to back up a figure of eight They've been used since the stone age with no back up
  22. I turn the plonkers away and as a result have ended up with a small but faithful band of followers which are growing in numbers. No messing, no quibbling, they just ring and I deliver I'd rather be ticking over than busy with idiots
  23. Stevie, for someone who has relatively no worries, you dont half make things complicated
