  1. Nice to see you guys! I don’t see a ‘I own a non-descript Japanese 4x4 thingy’ group…..Yet.
  2. I've created this group for all fellow Land Rover fans. If you own one, join the group and show your appreciation for the definitive 4x4. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/group.php?groupid=19&gmid=438#gmessage438
  3. Landrovers are classless (like the Mini) The more abused, scratched and dented they become, the better they look.
  4. There’s a bit of a ‘Landrover’ theme going on tonight. I’ve had two Defenders in the past but now I’m getting a little more mature I prefer a little more comfort……….So here’s mine.
  5. You have to make a decision, and it should be based on the following…. Do you like being ‘liked’ by your fellow work-mates? If you do, I wouldn’t bother. If you don’t give a monkeys’ arse whether your liked or disliked then go for it! We have a full-time H&S officer here now and he’s made life very ‘awkward’ shall we say.
  6. Safety Rep? Don’t do it! I was one here at Worcester. I was voted in by my fellow work-force to take up the position and got no thanks for the time I put in. If and when you pull-up your comrades on safety issues (and it’ll happen one day) they will hate you for it! Unless of course your authority only employs level-headed, intelligent, well-rounded individuals.
  7. I’ve had many Landrovers over the years. My first was a series 3 pick-up and then I moved on to Defenders. I started buying ex-army Defenders from the auctions, running them for 12 months and then selling them on. The budget you have will get you a good Defender. Get one with the 300TDI engine, not the 200TDI (although its still a good engine, the 300 has many internal improvements) If you want to be brave (and like the image) buy an ex-army Defender, the money you have would get you a normally aspirated 2.5 engine. These are very tough little engines as they are not turbo’d they are under-stressed. (be warned though, they are not fast!) Don’t buy Japanese, buy the original, get a Landrover.
  8. Stranger things have happened! If we ever go the 'contractor route' that’s exactly what I'll do. I was thinking of registering a name for the business now (even if I stay at the council) That way if I start up in 10 years time I could say ‘Established 2009’ What do you think….?
  9. I don’t have any experience or advice, all I can offer is encouragement. What a fantastic thing to do! If my circumstances were different I’d love to do the same, excellent idea….go for it!
  10. Mate you can read my mind! I was thinking of going down the consultancy route (maybe buy a picus, do tree surveys and gather a list of contractors I can use for the work generated from the surveys) Trouble is the £19k …. Caterham or Picus ? I can’t drive a Picus!
  11. In my 9th. year at the L/A, 40 this year and thinking its too late to go self-employed!?
  12. I'm a 6 footer, but they will lower the floor for you. They'll do anything ......for a price!
  13. I'm going for an Academy car with the new Ford Sigma engine. 0-60 5.6 seconds.....not bad for a 1600! Been to Caterham Midlands and took one out for a spin..Superb! I've always wanted one so its going to be a 40th. birthday present to myself. The R500 is just silly-fast!
  14. Try £19,000. Have you got £19k to spend on a Sunday morning play-thing ? :001_tt2:
  15. Thats not a car......... .........This is! I'm just 3k off buying a brand new one from Caterham.
  16. You must have done something really bad in a previous life Dean!
  17. Good work….But lay off those mince-pies dude!
  18. Can you get a picture of the tree up ?
  19. Sorry to hear that, poor little thing! Have you fitted a stair-gate over the entrance? I have two little ones, ages 3 and 6 and we still have the gates in place. Children are so unpredictable and would trip over a flea given half-a-chance. Best wishes to all of you.
  20. Who told you that ?? If you get all those tickets you mentioned it would make you very employable (together with a good reference from your college/current employer) If my lad gets his act together, i.e. turns up to work on time, cuts out the back-chat and accepts that he does not know much (yet). He may well walk into a £18k job in 12 months.
  21. I have a lad on the NVQ Level 2 course, his college is putting him through quite a lot. (cross-cutting, felling, climbing, aerial rescue, chainsaw from rope and harness, first aid etc etc....) I value the NVQ Qualification as an employer, its a dam good step-up on your arb career and if you had to pay for all those units it'll cost you a fortune! Count your blessings, keep your head down, ask as many questions as possible and always turn up for work on time.....and Good-Luck!
  22. A pair of socks off the wife and a Grand off Mum and Dad...Bless 'em
  23. Congratulations Mate!!! Well done to you and your wife
