  1. No, your kit may be used daily, or every other day. Its subject to wear, stress and damage and as such must be checked on a regular basis, i.e. every two weeks. All your kit must also be individually numbered or at least recognisable from any other piece of your kit. If it isn’t it’ll fail your 6 month inspection. E.g. if you have two tool strops, one blue and one red, then that’s fine. If you had two blue ones they are indistinguishable from each other and would need marking.
  2. I always understood that’s its not illegal, just against HSE guide lines and good working practice.
  3. Here is an example of our LOLER sheet for my climbing kit. As far as I'm aware there is no-wrong, no-right in the format. You can delete my checks and equipment list and just use the table if you wish..... LOLERChecklist30-11-07to28-11-08JohnHancock.doc
  4. Just been on the Met Office web site.... 'Sunday heavy rain quickly clearing east, then wintry showers following. Widespread gales, some severe gales. Monday and Tuesday cold, with sleet, hail or snow showers, but lighter winds'. Sounds like the gales are coming...£££ http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_wind.html
  5. Hello mate, I had mine done last month and the latest it that the inspections have to be ‘regular’. I always did mine weekly however I was told that may not be necessary (once every two weeks would be acceptable) So its climbing kit ‘regularly’ inspected by yourself . Climbing kit LOLER’d every 6 months Rigging Kit every 12 months.
  6. This Task reminds me of something Steve, o should I say Tyler......? [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jX1OmB9a-VM&NR=1[/ame]
  7. Ha! I have two already..
  8. Hope you did a risk assessment and put in place all the necessary control measures on that job.
  9. Out of interest who paid for the works? The landowner where the trees are situated or the owner on the other side of the fence?
  10. Nice to see a MEWP being used! £300 per day....sounds like a lot, hope you made enough yourself. It would have been tempting to cost for the hire of the MEWP and then come back and drop the limbs on the fence (when no-one is around). looks like it could take it!
  11. To be honest my feet are not 'Scarpa feet' I bought them for their intended purpose and not tree work. They are a close fit though, if you can try before you buy it would be great! Not many shops stock them now though.
  12. I've had a pair for years. Very good boots.....BUT Your feet will either be 'Scarpa' feet or they wont. Saw them at the AA last year and they're very cheep compared to what they used to cost.
  13. Is this better...?
  14. Thanks guys. (They are Chestnuts) Its all been covered before, if your really bored have a look... http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=1585
  15. Just in case certain people think we ‘Top’ everything here in L/A land, here’s an example of ‘Pollarding’ in the true sense of the word. I have never ‘Topped’ at tree and never would, I have however taken Limes back to their original ‘Pollard-Points’, granted they might have been very lapsed pollards, but pollards all the same. I’m lucky here in Worcester as we have our own in-house Arb-Team, as I understand this is becoming a rarity these days, so when people on here criticise ‘L/A’s’ for carrying out this ‘vandalism’ surely some of this might have been carried out by private contractors?? Ask yourself this…..Park Avenue in Worcester, Pollard 50% of the Limes back to original Pollard Points (they are lapsed, approx 15 yrs) The jobs worth £2700. Would you do it ? Or refuse on the grounds of the trees wont be ‘aesthetically pleasing’?
  16. You take a tree/trees down in the city....can you imagine the amount of sh*t you get off the public for doing that!? You plant some trees to replace the ones you have removed....they get snapped off! You plant some more trees to replace the trees which got snapped off and guess what? They get snapped off! You plant some more trees, to replace the ........and so on Welcome to L/A land.
  17. ....and what would you rather have me do? refuse to carry out the works and risk getting the sack? Often trees like these are or have been neglected pollards for a very long time (usually down to little or no money available) I have been often asked to ‘re-pollard back to original pollard-points’ because they have lapsed and the knuckles are in danger of failing. Better to do this than risk someone getting injured. Yes in an ideal world things would be done differently. In an ideal world all councils would have a surplus of cash. These trees around our cities were planted in a time when there was much more labour and a lot more money to go around. Sad I know, but it’s the truth, so please dont knock the L/A's just because you think they are soft targets.
  18. Come on mate....They say the police always suspect the person who finds the body....You did it! It was you, wasn't it?.....admit it man, admit it! lol
  19. We do that in Worcester too! Sad fact of life.....its whatever the T/O askes for.
  20. That’s cool Steve, I guess the answer is to delete the older massages.
  21. This is an interesting little thread and many thanks to B101uk for posting it! I say interesting because the style of the thread changes fairly early on. Its very gratifying to know that we all seem to be becoming mature, safety conscious, responsible individuals. Is it Arbtalk or is there something in the water?
  22. Steve, when you go into groups and click onto social group discussions, in order to bring up the text and messages – they appear in order of ‘oldest message first’ i.e. you have to scroll through the pages in order to find the most recent message. Can it be changed this so the most recent message is the first one on view? This is in no-way a criticism Obi-Wan, just an observation. Cheers, John
  23. Stumpy by name, stumpy be nature! hope I've got the right one!

  24. You did well there not to smash the hell out of that wall mate! I’d still be there with a trowel and cement! Lol
  25. You BORING OLD FART.! Sorry John, just hadt to put that. I know, I know.....I asked for that didn't I! But I'm a boring (living) old fart.......least till I get the Caterham!
