  1. I’m about 7 months into my Blackberry and would never go back – best bit of kit I ever bought!
  2. Mate – if I was self-employed I’d be exactly the same. Providing comes first, morals second. It’s all too easy here in L/A land to forget what the real world is like out there sometimes, respect to you brother!
  3. I’ve done the two and my advice would be to do the RFS Cert Arb, then when you know the exam dates book yourself on the ISA Cet Arb exam. If you pass the RFS, you’ll pass the ISA and you’ll have two qualifications. The RFS is a good, well recognised qualification and when combined with the practical elements, makes for a well rounded, knowledgeable Arborist.
  4. I took the camera into work today thinking I’d get some pictures on the way home, but to be honest it would have upset me to much. If I had my way I’d have strung the landowner up in the last remaining Pear tree. These contractors must have started work at dawn Sunday morning, and every one had been pushed over by 10am. L/A Arbs get some stick sometimes but at least we put a thought process behind our decision-making.
  5. I was travelling home from Worcester yesterday and nearly put the Discovery in the ditch when I saw what a local land owner had done – pushed over 12 ancient Pear trees (one of the original Worcestershire orchards) with JCB’s and diggers. Some might say ‘lovely bit of kit that’ but not me. My blood is still boiling 24hrs later! Landowners are custodians of our wonderful trees, they have no right to fell without a damn good reason.
  6. Those were taken on a 4 year old Nikia phone as well.
  7. Good find gibbon, fascinating stuff, combined with a little sadness for those Red-woods.
  8. Haha, was waiting for that all morning - poles at the ready and everything, but 'little twig' didnt materialize. Was tempted to tie a pair of trainers together and throw them up there though.
  9. Just coming to the end of a highway contract, mainly re-pollarding Limes back to the original pollard points. This one was slightly more interesting – plenty of tea from the residents, which was nice.
  10. Happy 40th. Dave!! Made you a cake - i'll pop it in the post.
  11. Superb pictures! Superb job, respect.
  12. It’s a responsibility I’ve got to take ownership of David. I have a few marked up for the first stages of entrenchment, will start next summer. I’d imagine the whole programme would be over a 10 – 15 year period.
  13. I had to take two Oaks down once just because some idiot built a single story shoddy extension on their home. If looked so bad I didn’t dare lean on the thing for fear of knocking it down – Yet it was proved that the trees were responsible, so bye bye trees.
  14. Its ridiculous that 1. The MEWP was being manoeuvred while fully extended 2.The MEWP is capable of being driven while extended. 3. Where was the banksman????
  15. Cheers Guys, all credit goes to Matt, the new member of the team. He’s in temp digs at the moment, when he gets settled it’ll be nice to have him on the forum. Reading between the lines I don’t think there is a subsidence issue here, more likely to be crappy foundations under the conservatory. It’s all too common for homeowners to label trees as the cause of all evil in the urban environment. It’s a smashing tree and its not on its own (there are over 100 in this area). I’m looking foreword to starting some entrenchment work and trying to prolong the life of these beauties for a while longer.
  16. Absolute waste of a good life, which could have so easily been avoided. We all grumble about all the H&S regulations in this country – but they are there for a purpose - this brings it home.
  17. Nice old Oak pollard in Warndon Villages, Worcester. The spec was a 30% crown reduction, partly to take weight off those large old limbs but also because of a questionable subsidence issue on a conservatory at the house on the left of the picture. Climber was Matthew, all work carried out with a Silky. Think we ended up with about 25% in the end, anymore and it would have looked awful. The work was carried out without prejudice. I’ll look at the tree again in two years time and see if there is an inner crown is developing, if there is we’ll take a little more off.
  18. Drive past Warndon Tescos (on the left), take 1st. left, tree on the right. Can't miss it!!
  19. I just see blood, sweat and tears lol. See what you mean though, i'd find it fascinating.......if they weren't my trees!
