  6. A long time ago when I was first getting into training a certain instructor gave me some strong advice to use on courses (thank you Mr Consalvey) never tell someone where they have gone wrong or tell them they have gone wrong as this just destroys the soul. The correct approach in his eyes was to say "how could we do this different or is there another way to do this". Sounds a pretty strange dude the instructor you have had and if you werent happy i would certainly pass on your thoughts to the provider of training. Plus side mate well done and has been said already now you have the ticket learn and learn some more the ticket is only the start.

  18. You will never stop it mate, thats why majority of my work is utility work because pricing domestic work around us is just competing alot of the time with them exact types and why this recession carries on it will only get worse. Until more enforcement is brought in they will always be a part of our profession. Who knows the answer to the problem certainly beyond me how you solve the cowboy scenario like your post is showing, so im afraid grin and bare it and make sure your doing your bit right like the rest of us law abiding individuals.
  19. Best practice says gloves should be worn when working in the tree, it doesnt really say type or style just that they should be suitable for the task. I never wore them for years either on the ground or in the tree and by george do I suffer now with white finger etc, so if your just starting out put them on but always keep a couple of pairs because wet gloves are worse than no gloves regards vibration with tools ie chainsaws.
