  1. Bin the fuel or keep it for starting bonfires etc but dont use it if unsure of age, petrol mixed or not has approx 6week shelf life before it starts going off, only found this my self the other week when getting a rolling road check on the car, doesnt get used a great deal and had dropped power from last run, the guy explained the fuel situation, drained and filled with new and back, remarkable differance. As for sticking in more 2stroke its a nono, it will leave deposits on your piston/pot causing heatspots in the future.
  2. couldnt of put it better myself:thumbup1:
  3. unfortunatly its so easy if you have a few quid and can talk the talk etc to become an instructor regardless of length of carreer, i know of one such indivivdual who became an instrctor with in 18 months of gaining his cs 30/31/38/39. no where near enough experiance but there you go.
  4. what would you call basic quals and experiance?
  5. This is up for sale after xmas, changing to a newer model of hilux.
  6. one of those or a Hilux wouldnt run owt else, if you can find a tidy one snap it up, I couldnt find a decent priced newish one anywhere so bought a hilux which has been a good truck inits own right. But next truck will be denver
  7. Its a mine field mate, I instruct in mainly UA 1,2.1,2.2, 2.3 CS38,39,MEWP CS47 I am not a LANTRA instuctor, have looked at the criteria but actually never got round to getting my backside together to sort it out. Cant say my way is the best but I get a steady stream of work plus my own freelancing on ua Contracts. If you have the money get it done now dont do as i have in past leave and leave it especially if your self employed something always gobbles the funds. As for assessor on nptc "good luck" from what i understand you can go through all the rigmorole and still be put on a waiting list, but dont take my word for it. my opinion the instructor side is far better than the assessor side for enjoyment. I have worked as instructor in the electrical side of the arb and inspection industry for quite a few years, written several work books for the inspection side of electrical work, what Im trying to get at is you need to be fully committed to the cause, because sometimes you will go home feeling that you have got no where with students for the day, other days you will go home richer with knowledge you and your students have swapped. Good luck in your quest:thumbup1:
  8. God knows, depends if they get there act together or not, go for sp authortisations in a fortnights time, but could do with finding who is doing the ce stuff back north really. good rates where we are but if they dont pay regular then you may as well be on less else where if its regular
  9. still in the deep south, are you subbing to enterprise?
  10. where are you subbing at the moment Richard?
  11. <object width="400" height="300" ><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="movie" value="http://www.facebook.com/v/374197399410" /><embed src="http://www.facebook.com/v/374197399410" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="400" height="300"></embed></object> used a chipper many times for a little tug and its never failed yet, probably not the correct way but using your noddle a bit and bingo no probs

  13. Probably the safest part of the industry to be in at the moment, wont get into the dark side of utilities thing but its certainly come on a long way since the mid nineties. What REC are working on over winter Dilz?
  14. Ive been back freelancing for about 2yrs now, nearly all work on Utilities as the private sector is pants around us, every one is tree professional wether a gardener oe local handyman at the moment. Get as many strings to your bow as possible, I turn my hand to powerline surveys, climbing, general dog onsite, LOLER Inspection, UA training, and any domestic work back home if its worth the price. Put tax money away and keep a rainy day pot for those pants weeks when there isnt any work or the weather is beyond working in, remember there two seperate pots though. I spent all my tax money 14yrs ago to keep afloat when times were bad and it probably wasnt my greatest move, hence how I ended up at Fountains for 10yrs first two paying the taxman and others off. Set yourself goals for where you want your business to go and targets you want to reach. Make sure you have some good personel insurance for the potential of been off sick or injured, or a wealthy spouse to support you. And lastly if your dillying around thinking about it then you will probably never do it, a lot of people like myself had no choice but to go that way and sart up.
  15. Alright Ben Not doing to bad, were still subbying on EDF for now, are you still on Fountains LV or back down south again.
  16. Hi mate Where are you working down south, were in the same boat but never seems to be a lot about on the work front locally. Jason

  18. Cheers, if we get the job I'll post some photos, never seen anything like it, we have a mewp sorted for the trees due to concerns over the strenght of the trees. cheers:thumbup1:
  19. After a bit of advice from any one who has been in this situation or knows what to do. Went to price a job requiring the section felling of 1x80' Cedar, 4x40' Limes and a 30' cherry, all the trees are completly dead, not dying but completly dead. The customer had some Travelers turn up and offered to spray off his land to get it ready for landscaping, these trees are all on the land and have subsequently all died off because of what has been sprayed on the ground. Ive sprayed quite a lot of chemicals my self over the years on plantations etc but never seen any thing result in this, as I say they are dead dead. The council have been intouch as all the trees fell unde a TPO, they have agreed to them all been taken out and have taken samples to try and diagnose the culprit chemical but have so far drawen a blank. My concern is this, will the timber be poisonus to work on now and wood chip of the job would this be safe to mik with clean stuff in the yard. I think myself the chemical has been some sort of Paraquat or the like but I could be wrong. I dont want the woodchip or the timber if there is a chance of harm coming to someone. any feed back or ideas greatly accepted
